That's my wife's name. I would love it!!
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: Funny or Die - Beach Boys on: November 03, 2014, 07:05:50 PM
Yeah, I only said it was interesting. They just aren't a band you usually see parodied much anymore, let alone popping up on Funny or Die. Give it a thumbs down over on youtube.

So if this is the wrong place, please let me know or take it down, but I saw this interesting video on Funny or Die's youtube page. It seems like it was halloween themed, because it gets kinda crazy, but it was interesting to see a sketch comedy group's take on the beach boys. Like I said, it gets crazy, but definitely worth a watch.

And compare that recent clip of Don't Worry Baby to this older one almost 20 years ago. Matt's voice has more than held up. I love him in this group, but also love that Foskett is with M&B.

This is amazing news. I've been crossing my fingers for this moment. Matt really does get the falsetto better and closer to the original (Brian) than most of the successors. It has the fullness and richness better than Foskett's driving more pinched sound. Foskett's doesn't bother me as much as it does a lot of people it seems, but Matt's is better. Here's hoping he brings Matt on tour with him.

Haha The Heartical Don. I would love to hear Ding Dang done at a wedding, and then just get the crowd reactions.
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Bruce on not showing Al, Brian and Dave in shows on: December 14, 2013, 10:55:53 AM
True, killing the brand might be a little superfluous, only because I think it's us die hards arguing these points. The normal concert goer who knows the hits (and is probably 90% of the audience going to see M&B) seems to be happy and buying the tickets. Heck, if there was no demand, would they even still be touring as extensively?
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: David Marks & the Surf City Allstars on: November 21, 2013, 07:59:47 PM
I saw the just David Marks version of the Allstars right before the reunion tour kicked off last year. They did a great job. David didn't sing much, but it was awesome seeing a lot of the guys who used to tour with the band, especially Matt Jardine. His is my favorite of all of the non-Brian falsettos out there, especially of the later live incarnations. I think it would have been amazing if he was around for the reunion tour. Those songs would have sounded amaaaazing. But I digress. Go see them if you have a chance. Nice and more intimate.

I give kudos to Mike's band for performing it all in the first place, and they did beat Brian to getting that song out there. Coswill was such a great energy on that reunion tour. His drumming is amazing.

Thanks man!

What's sadder though, is that the guy sitting next to me had a DSLR, and he definitely wasn't press. If I knew they were letting those in, I would have brought mine. The video quality on my T2i vs iPhone would have been sweet to see. But man, great memories. I hope they keep doing this. I will gladly see this show again every time it rolls around.

Haha, hilarious! I literally just got home and finally posted my video. So, double Wild Honey tonight I suppose. Sorry, but my seats were high up.

You absolutely must. I've watched most of the YouTube videos that have been posted, and they honestly are not doing the show justice. Some people were saying Jeff's mic was too loud on Hearts, but when they did it tonight the blend sounded great (couple spots where Jardine popped out, but not anything that ruined the song), and every major harmony moment was majestic. The vocal chord at the end of Surf's Up was worth admission alone. And who knows, you might super luck out and see him do all of Love You.

Your memory serves you wonderfully. Yea, I was so happy to see Blondie on so many songs, and he killed the two he had leads on. As awesome as Jeff Beck was, I really do hope they do what you say and do a full on tour next year. I would love to have had a chance to hear all of Pet Sounds AND the other songs that were on the set list before. Hear David sing some leads and a couple more Jardine tracks. I suppose they will have to tour to support the new album whenever it's released.

Either way, very happy with tonight's show. Goosebumps when Pet Sounds was all finished, cool to hear Blondie introduced as a Beach Boy, and the way they had them set up all up front, very reminiscent of the 50 tour, and cool to see the main guys featured up front. I'll load that video up soon. I will let you know now, I had seats in the balcony, so not a good view, but you can at least hear it.

Guys, he just did all of Pet Sounds!! I was too poor and in college last time he toured it, and I never thought I'd see it, let alone with so many Beach Boys on stage. And I got video of Wild Honey I'll post when I'm home. Great night so far.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Reminder: Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck are on Jimmy Fallon's Show Tonight on: October 11, 2013, 11:17:50 AM
Yea, screw ice cream!!!

I am a fan of Katy Perry, especially the Teenage Dream album, the first 6 tracks are strong, and there are a couple more near the end which are great. I think it's all about one's taste. It's verrrry pop, but it stands out due to the arrangements and her powerful voice. She's one of the few pop stars that actually can bring it when the songs are performed live.

As for their mics being muted, I think we all remember the Jimmy Fallon performance of TWGMTR. Kinda rough. Brian's vocals that night were a little flat, and it's so silly because he could easily fix those vocals with a little more breath support, but with back issues, breath support become hard to provide. Aaaannd, I've gone way off topic. lol Excited for Tuesday's concert.

This is amazing news! I'm going to the one at the Beacon in NYC. It's like another reunion. If we get Ricky, then we have that magic #5. Now invite Carl's kids out

Beacon Theatre baby! That's where I saw the boys last year. Maybe this time the wife can come along.

I guess if the movie is about Brian Wilson, it doesn't really matter who's playing the rest of the beach boys. If they're casting a Melinda and Landry, I assume we're going to see a lot more of him, and not so much of the boys. So if their casting doesn't matter much to the story, then it might be high on their priority list to cast people that look like them. Also, if Cusack is playing older Brian, I guess we should see who they're casting as the older beach boys. Those might be the more important roles to worry about.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys for Hipsters on: July 11, 2013, 08:49:15 PM
I love "Meant For You" as an opener too. Our Prayer would be a good midway point. You could tell them it's the start of side two. Hipsters love to think in terms of records. Now, of course most anything off of Pet Sounds, Sunflower or select choices from Love You should be the oddity you're looking for. As for other random cuts I enjoy:

I'll Bet He's Nice, All I Wanna Do, Girl Don't Tell Me, She's Goin Bald, Little Bird, Never Learn Not To Love (and give em the backstory), A Day in the Life of a Tree, Feel Flows, Surf's Up, Disney Girls. Should be good for now. Sounds like a fun thing to be a part of. I need to find something like that.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Paul Mertens on what to expect from upcoming BAD shows on: July 11, 2013, 08:33:25 PM
I laughed out loud over the Mike tribute screen. We should go full hologram sequence.

I would definitely love some Love You stuff. Let's hear the weird ones. Solar System or Johnny Carson. It would be great if he could do a whole concert of it Pet Sounds style. But that's just the BB nerd in me speaking. Probably won't happen.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Movie Musical on: May 13, 2013, 07:49:28 PM
I've said this before. I'm a music theatre actor, and I believe the best way to do their music and their story justice would be to do it in the same format as Jersey Boys. Jersey Boys is so clever, and I think the Beach Boys have a better band history and better music to pull from. Plus, the songs are so personal to Brian Wilson's life (outside of the fun ones of course), that it'd be so easy for them to satisfy musical lovin' people.

Man, I live here in NYC, but kinda the same thing both of you said. $75 is a high price. I didn't know he was able to pull in those kind of ticket prices. Good for him.

Love this small world stuff. I was just in Rochester earlier this week. My sister lives in Pittsford. Enjoy the show. I'm in NYC, and they're coming pretty close by in Jersey, so I might check them out there.
