Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian recording 1/23 with Matt Jardine

This is amazing news. I've been crossing my fingers for this moment. Matt really does get the falsetto better and closer to the original (Brian) than most of the successors. It has the fullness and richness better than Foskett's driving more pinched sound. Foskett's doesn't bother me as much as it does a lot of people it seems, but Matt's is better. Here's hoping he brings Matt on tour with him.

I saw the just David Marks version of the Allstars right before the reunion tour kicked off last year. They did a great job. David didn't sing much, but it was awesome seeing a lot of the guys who used to tour with the band, especially Matt Jardine. His is my favorite of all of the non-Brian falsettos out there, especially of the later live incarnations. I think it would have been amazing if he was around for the reunion tour. Those songs would have sounded amaaaazing. But I digress. Go see them if you have a chance. Nice and more intimate.

Thanks man!
What's sadder though, is that the guy sitting next to me had a DSLR, and he definitely wasn't press. If I knew they were letting those in, I would have brought mine. The video quality on my T2i vs iPhone would have been sweet to see. But man, great memories. I hope they keep doing this. I will gladly see this show again every time it rolls around.

You absolutely must. I've watched most of the YouTube videos that have been posted, and they honestly are not doing the show justice. Some people were saying Jeff's mic was too loud on Hearts, but when they did it tonight the blend sounded great (couple spots where Jardine popped out, but not anything that ruined the song), and every major harmony moment was majestic. The vocal chord at the end of Surf's Up was worth admission alone. And who knows, you might super luck out and see him do all of Love You.

Your memory serves you wonderfully. Yea, I was so happy to see Blondie on so many songs, and he killed the two he had leads on. As awesome as Jeff Beck was, I really do hope they do what you say and do a full on tour next year. I would love to have had a chance to hear all of Pet Sounds AND the other songs that were on the set list before. Hear David sing some leads and a couple more Jardine tracks. I suppose they will have to tour to support the new album whenever it's released.
Either way, very happy with tonight's show. Goosebumps when Pet Sounds was all finished, cool to hear Blondie introduced as a Beach Boy, and the way they had them set up all up front, very reminiscent of the 50 tour, and cool to see the main guys featured up front. I'll load that video up soon. I will let you know now, I had seats in the balcony, so not a good view, but you can at least hear it.

Yea, screw ice cream!!!
I am a fan of Katy Perry, especially the Teenage Dream album, the first 6 tracks are strong, and there are a couple more near the end which are great. I think it's all about one's taste. It's verrrry pop, but it stands out due to the arrangements and her powerful voice. She's one of the few pop stars that actually can bring it when the songs are performed live.
As for their mics being muted, I think we all remember the Jimmy Fallon performance of TWGMTR. Kinda rough. Brian's vocals that night were a little flat, and it's so silly because he could easily fix those vocals with a little more breath support, but with back issues, breath support become hard to provide. Aaaannd, I've gone way off topic. lol Excited for Tuesday's concert.

I guess if the movie is about Brian Wilson, it doesn't really matter who's playing the rest of the beach boys. If they're casting a Melinda and Landry, I assume we're going to see a lot more of him, and not so much of the boys. So if their casting doesn't matter much to the story, then it might be high on their priority list to cast people that look like them. Also, if Cusack is playing older Brian, I guess we should see who they're casting as the older beach boys. Those might be the more important roles to worry about.

I love "Meant For You" as an opener too. Our Prayer would be a good midway point. You could tell them it's the start of side two. Hipsters love to think in terms of records. Now, of course most anything off of Pet Sounds, Sunflower or select choices from Love You should be the oddity you're looking for. As for other random cuts I enjoy:
I'll Bet He's Nice, All I Wanna Do, Girl Don't Tell Me, She's Goin Bald, Little Bird, Never Learn Not To Love (and give em the backstory), A Day in the Life of a Tree, Feel Flows, Surf's Up, Disney Girls. Should be good for now. Sounds like a fun thing to be a part of. I need to find something like that.

I've said this before. I'm a music theatre actor, and I believe the best way to do their music and their story justice would be to do it in the same format as Jersey Boys. Jersey Boys is so clever, and I think the Beach Boys have a better band history and better music to pull from. Plus, the songs are so personal to Brian Wilson's life (outside of the fun ones of course), that it'd be so easy for them to satisfy musical lovin' people.
