Hi there,

for a start, there's Stephen McParlands "In The Studio with Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys: Our Favorite Recording Sessions". And in "LLVS" are some of the session sheets reprinted. But those sheets aren't gospel...sometimes creating paperwork where there wasn't any in the first place...

Hello,
longtime lurker here :-)

When I saw him in germany in concert in 2004 (I think) he did some "new" lyrics, first he sang something about there being a lot of poor people in the world, and then he went on: "well it's just not fair......FOR THE POOR".

This was so typical Brian, this last three words were delivered with such a timing, with a little break after "it's just not fair", it still cracks me up thinkin' about it.

Greetings from germany
Alex

Or the 93 Box Set Tour in New York when it comes to "Disney Girls":

Mike: "You can hear it in every elevator in the country."
Bruce: "Right after Kokomo"

1988 during the intro of "Be true to your school", when the sound guy messes up the echo:
"Was this the echo from last year's show??"

AWO Sessions, Switzerland, Beach Boys Show 2003: the audience, mostly upper-class well-suited golf-playing people (it was a charity show), whom Mike refers to as "the handicap section".

During the show he asks the seated audience to get up an dance:
"come on, those are rock'n'roll based songs. Stand up. Help thy neighbour!!"

Songs from here & back:
The "live" songs from the late 80s were at the time recorded for the "endless summer" tv series. if you watch the clips today you get the feeling they weren't completely "live" at the time (overdubbed for TV). If you listen to "Kokomo" from this concert on "Songs from here & back", the sax solo by Michael Brecker is missing. So they were worked over then and are again edited for the "SFHB" CD.

Greetings from germany...

Hi, there was a quote from Terry Melcher in one of McParlands Books, he said something like he's proud of Getcha Back  because it was the last time Brian sang falsetto on a record.

The cheerleader phase has ended. This was taken at a special gig at the US air base in Ramstein, Germany. It was a special show mainly for the GIs and their people. So the organisators put on the cheerleaders, the band doesn't have them anymore.

All it takes is to look and hear: If you compare "Kokomo" from the Endless Summer TV Show and the Hallmark CD you'll find:

IT'S THE SAME RECORDING.

On the Endless Summer TV Version, Mikes intro (that IS on the hallmark version) is editet out almost completely. On the hallmark CD version the introduction of sax player Michael Brecker is missing (that IS on the tv version), maybe some legal rights issues or something...
So, if you think you're hearing Brian on Kokomo (I don't think I'm hearing him, but I'm confused...) he must have been put in afterwards, he wasn't on stage during that song.

Hi all...

some time ago I tried to sum up what is around audiowise from the Hawaiian disaster. Here's my list, feel free to make corrections or additions....I bet we'll see the Hawaiian Live Box before the Smile Sessions Box Set.... Grin

-both shows complete from boot aug. 25th and 26th 1967

-fake live versions, rehersal-takes  from wally heider , sept. 11th 1967, from various boots:
you're so good to me/rhonda/surfer girl/california girls/surfin'/god only knows/good vibes/heroes (with a spoken Mike passage....really from those sessions?)

Oficially: God only knows from the EH soundtrack, from the heider sessions, edited or overdubbed
Oficially: The Letter from the aug. 25th concert, edited or w. overdubbs, on the 1983 Rarities
Oficially: Heroes live from the 25th on the Concert-twofer
Oficially: Surfer Girl from the 25th, soundcheck, on the 30 Years Box Set
Oficially: Their hearts were full of spring  from the 25th, soundcheck, on the Smiley Twofer.
