Just got the improved copy and it is exceptional. I have the front & back slicks from the late 1970s and this looks identical. Just a very, very nice job. I would recommend this unhesitatingly to anyone looking for an authentic SMiLE cover reproduction.

Just a quick update. I understand some suggestions have been made by 'Obsessive Compulsives' and this cover is being "improved" to where it is VERY near perfect. Lots of care and attention being put into this if anyone's interested. I have another copy on the way already.

EARCANDY: Plus, any "new" version (if they do release it as 12") would have a bar code and a new copyright number just like the 2004 BWPS vinyl.
That's a great point. I"m VERY happy with the cover I received and 'THANK YOU" very much for the link. How many of us have vinyl boots that came with less than accurate cover reproductions?

Just got one of these today and it's really a nice job. Just one complaint - "Heroes and Villians" is misspelled as "Heroes and Villans" on the back cover. That and the font for the catalog number is off just a bit. Other than the slicks that I bought WAY back when, this is the nicest I've seen.

I saw that interview as it was aired. It was awful. I was expecting to hear about Carl's decision to go solo with all the details. Instead all he was asked (again and again) was about California Girls and if there was any hostilities from all the other girls out there who were not from California. Carl was very polite but you could tell he was surprised with this line of questioning. It was obvious that someone hadn't done their homework before the interview.

Funny how Beautiful Dreamer plays it like Hal was there...
EDIT - YES, I know Jim Gordon is in jail for violently relieving himself of female parental guidance.
However, Jim Gordon did come up with one of the more famous piano parts of pop/rock music; the end of 'Layla'. From the book "Skydog" by Randy Poe: "In truth, the actual number of composers who contributed to Layla (although offically credited to Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon) might be closer to half a dozen- not only because of the interpolation of "As the Years Go Passing By (the first few notes of the melody became the opening riff to Layla, as played by Duane) but also due to the question of how many people were involved in the creation of the piano piece that makes up the second half of the song. Along with Jim Gordon, two other writers are said to have contributed. "Rita Coolidge wrote that, when we were still with Delaney and Bonnie, up in John Garfield Jr.'s guest house," says Bobby Whitlock. It was a song called 'Time.' The melody was actually a song, but Jim Gordon ripped it off." And according to another source, saxophonist Jim Hord deserves at least partial credit for the piece as well". http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=456175&page=3

Some of my favorites...
1. Lahaina Aloha 2. Angel Come Home 3. Little Pad 4. It's Trying To Say (Baseball) 5. With Me Tonight
LITTLE PAD - Funny that this one came up as it's been in my head for about a week now. Just one of those very catcht little tunes that's hard to git rid of once you start hearing it over and over. Actually, Smiley is full of that kind of stuff. Just little bits and pieces of VERY catchy stuff.

I don't believe it would have mattered at all. The LP was so late in arriving that the opportunity had come and gone. That and the fact that the LPs graphics and musical content were so untypical for the group that most of us were "confused". I still don't understand the controversy within the group about releasing SMILE and then kicking out SMILEY SMILE instead. I just don't see where SMILEY is any more accessable. I think the years have been kind to SMILEY but it was kind of difficult to like it a lot at first after the HEROES/GOOD VIBRATIONS teasers that had preceeded it.
