Well, of course the Letterman are one of the greatest vocal groups of all-time, very MOR, very white. The Association I think would also be in that group.
Sadly, The Association tend to be rather unfairly lumped in with the MOR brigade, a result of folks only knowing The Greatest Hits collection, or the Bones Howe produced era. If only they would look beyond early '68 and check out The Association (aka Stonehenge) from 1969, Stop Your Motor from '71 or Waterbeds In Trinidad from '72. Alternatively, just YouTube 'Pandoras Golden Heebie Jeebies'... 'nuff said...

The band had nothing to do with the individual sections, and each separate piece of artwork was commissioned to some of the then-young and hip LA artists of the time - Drew 'Star Wars' Struzan included. The piece you are refering to was provided by Jim Heimann, so maybe he had some sort of futuristic vision... but I doubt very much that it was at the forefront of the bands thinking back then. Certainly, by that stage in their career, they were far more content to look back at the past...

One of the last releases was The Association, who had a full synth and drum machine driven album (with production from Curt Boettcher) on Hitbound, as part of the Radio Shack deal and the deal with Mike Love. That was the last recording by the Association in any original lineup, and the results were pretty poor...even the band badmouthed it later.
Just picking up on this GF, but The Association issued one more album after their Hitbound release, 1995s 'A Little Bit More' which still had Larry Ramos and Russ Giguere fronting the band, albeit alongside a new supporting lineup. As for the 'New Memories' album for Hitbound - initial production on the album was afforded to a youthful Jeffrey Foskett, whilst final credit went to the band themselves. Boettcher had only contributed to the earlier recording of 'Walk Away Renee'. Terry Kirkman's quote on the release, when I asked about it, summed it up nicely... "Radio Shack! I thought 'oh, this is where my illustrious career has gone...!'"

Interesting ... and if it weren't for the exorbitant international postage I'd be tempted to invest in a copy. I think 'Surfer' kinda misses the point in referring to the project as a 'disgrace' in that this, or any similar work is merely paying homage to the talents and songwriting abilities of the original artist and I, for one, acknowledge and like the approach and re-interpretation of what I consider one of the greatest albums... ever. True, in my heart, it'll never match the original for the intensity and beauty, but to refer to it as a disgrace is simply... plain ridiculous. You don't have to like it, or listen to it, but recognise it for what it is. Genuine acknowledgement of DW in his prime...

I detailed various incidents in my book (with Jon) if you look under May 1967 you’ll see that I discussed an interview he did after the European tour where he admits that he seldom socializes with the group and has little in common with them. I also noted that he took almost no part in the smiley smile sessions because “it all got too weird.” Also note that the BBs in early 68 gave faint praise/blame for bluebirds to Bruce. In November-December 1970 I quoted the reviewer who noted that the BBs seemed quite irritated when Bruce would take a solo turn to do tears in the morning (he taped a solo tv spot on that tour as well). I presented all the various bb quotes about his departure in April 1972-many of which were passively hostile
So what I don't get is... if it irked the band so much that Bruce had a solo spot in the show, it begs the question 'why allow it ?'. Four of them bow down to the power of one ? Methinks not... Watching the Paris '69 show with TNFP, as lovely and pretty as it is, makes you wonder why other, far greater 'hits' were omitted in favour of playing this. Simply promotion for the then-new 20/20 album ?? And the others were happy to walk off stage for this ? https://youtu.be/YHdi3zW78pg

... and a few further thoughts from Jim Yester : "We also did an early date with them at The Ventura County Fairgrounds, followed by one at the Convention Center in Las Vegas. They were very nice and friendly... Terry (Kirkman), later on, became sort of close with Brian Wilson. I believe he went to Brian's house a few times..." Being a huge admirer of TK's work THAT is a meeting I'd love to have overseen !
Note: and to get back to the subject of the original thread, Jim also comments that he doesn't believe any photographic evidence exists...

Having followed both bands for numerous decades, in addition to being the author of The Association's biography ('Cherish'), I've never seen any photographic evidence of their shows together. They were on a brief 4-date tour during 1966, and at least one other occasion during the 80s (thinking off the top of my head) but despite being the two premier west-coast harmony bands of that era they surprisngly spent little time in each other's company. I asked Jules Alexander about this today and he could offer little recollection on the two bands working together... although he did seem to recall at least one other show, possibly during the early 70s, when they were appearing at the same venue...

If anyone has old issues of esq I wrote a two part article about the bbs tv appearances. This was broadcast on a show called ear say in the U.K.
Maybe my memory is fading with age, but I do clearly recall watching this live on TV back in the day... and I could swear it was on the TV show 'Rapido'... but I may simply be getting confuzzled...

I dunno anything about that particular instance, but I think sometimes airlines would put extra bits on planes to celebrate an event and/or famous passengers. For instance: More than likely in this instance this was a bit of ad-hoc publicity, simply adding the TLES onto the official BEA (British European Airways) logo

Any updates on the Jerry Yester situation??
Seems the Spoonful have officially replaced Jerry, so that door is closed, but other than that nothing has been forthcoming in the media. I guess the wheels of justice, for good or for bad, move slowly...
