This was just on BBC Radio Four this morning.

God Only Knows - Soul Music, Series 26

"God only knows what I'd be without you"

For artist Kim Lynch God Only Knows is a song that she has carried with her from the moment her father played it to her mother back in their 1960's London home and it's the song that resonated throughout her parents 65 years together.

Meanwhile in land locked Burundi, another couple are bought together from two very different cultures. Sharing the same hopes and prayers, they began their married life by blending a traditional wedding ceremony with the Californian song that spans decades - and continents - to touch souls wherever it's played.

And across the ocean, Erin Prewitt tells her love story and describes how tragic and unexpected circumstances meant she has had to learn to live out those iconic lyrics and discover what it means to be without the person you love.

With reflections from musician Al Kooper and author Barry Miles.

3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / BBC Radio - Carole Kaye Story on: June 09, 2014, 05:27:47 AM
Did anybody catch the Radio 2 "Carole Kaye" story on Radio Two?
Was a good listen, but not so much BB content.

Can't believe how much she played on.

I think the Listen Again ends very soon.

I've been waiting for the release of MiC to do something similar, but more a second CD of "bonus tracks", eg, for say "Surfs Up" LP, add

"WIBNTLA" (MiC4),
"4th July" (GVBox),
"Out In The Country" (DAR03)

as well as some other tracks such as

"Don't Go Near The Water" instrumental (MiC6),
"Looking At Tomorrow" earlier mix (DAR02),
"Take A Load Off Your Feet" alt mix (Jnls2),
"'Til I Die" vocals only (GTB1) and alt mix (EH),
plus many potential versions of "Surfs Up".

The possibilities are endless bearing in mind the amount of boots out there - but I'd only include decent sounding options, not a "Purple Chick" like complete approach.

Anybody done something similar?

BTW not been delivered of the box in UK yet.

6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MiC up for order on Amazon, August release on: July 19, 2013, 04:14:56 AM
I just cancelled mine jonsuissy.  Logged on to the Sainsburys entertainment site first, clicked on the account link at the top right of the page, then went to view the unfulfilled order, on which there is a very simple (but small) cancel button.

Hope that helps.

Thanks John, that did help (I had to click a small "view" icon which brought up the cancel option)
I was dreading telling Mrs jonsuissy we had two new Beach Boys Box Sets

Oh what  a sweet evening.

I shall record via computer to uncompressed digital....and then to tape Smiley

But the sound is already compressed unless listening on FM isn't it?
On DAB BBC R2 is transmitted at 128 kbits/sec which is very low (although acceptable). If you can record from Freeview thats at 192 kbits/sec which is much better.
The iPlayer transmits at 128 kbits/sec but in AAC I believe, so better than DAB.
Does anybody know what rates Virgin, Sky etc broadcast at?

So best option is FM (assuming good signal) with Freeview as a backup - thats what I'll be doing anyway.

I see R2 are also rebroadcasting the 60min version of Record Producers next week and 6Music the 70's Beach Boys Story 6 part series.

As Tuffers says, Happy Days.

Keep it to yourself John but I heard recently that Jeff Astle played bass on most of Pet Sounds.
Not a lot of people know that.
Jon

Carol Kaye plays centre-forward for West Bromwich Albion on alternate Saturdays and I won't hear a word said against her. She still holds the record for the highest number of away-game goals scored in a single season and can name every member of the home games' crowds in alphabetical order.

Ever considered that this could be because they generally agree with me when I (successfully and accurately) point out you have no idea whatsoever what you're talking about concerning (insert recent Capitol/BB product of your choice here) ?

We live only to do your bidding, Your Excellency!!!!
