I need to watch Summer Dreams, havent seen it in years. I just watched An American Family a couple of months ago, it was ok, really didn't like how Brian was portrayed in this movie. The scene when Dennis sang "Forever" to Murray was the best scene of the whole movie, it's moving.

2 questions..... 1. What was written in the area labled <censored>, or is this something that I really don't want to know about? 2. What was the original debate about? I forgot. Wow, such reaction, but historically isn't this subject one of the most debated and most volitile on any BB/BW message board? Guys, guys, chill.....

I am sure he was scared to death of all this new style of music the band was gravitating towards. I actually don't blame him for being concerned and wanting to keep the band on its formula; he had house payments, alimony, child support, paternity suits, cars, and a lifestyle that he had to pay for. Pumping gas was not going to pay for all this, and that was pretty much the extent of his work experience before the fame. My problem I have with him is his obsession with lawsuits, power and divide and conquer attitude. And his RR Hall of Fame Speech. And Student Demonstration Time. And the turban and the shiny gold suit period. And his solo albums. And bringing Steve into the band's circle. I saw the Mike and Bruce BB's a couple of summers ago in NM, and they did a wonderful job, Mike was vintage frontman, just didn't dance around like he used to but they did a great job with the music.

A very sad letter. That letter was written to ease his own conscience, in an effort to make himself feel better IMHO. The Beach Boys followed the typical childhood star path, too much fame, too much money, too much debauchery flung at them before they are mature enough to handle it correctly.

whoever casted American Family did a great job, well except for maybe Van Dyke, whose character looked NOTHING like him, when did Van Dyke have blonde hair Nick Stabile as Denny was eery in part 1, he could have been his twin; Audree, Murry, Mike's characters looked just like them. Carl, Bruce, Brian and Al, casting didn't do as well a job. Between this movie and Summer Dreams, I prefer American Family. Just can't get past those beards in the other movie to take the plot seriously. You are out of the band Buckwheat

Totally off topic, well sorta.....it's a dream but it was not the BB's, I had it just last night......
I was in a mall in Texas....an early 90's George Harrison and an older man were sitting at a table in the courtyard. I had walked into a music store to sell an autographed guitar....as I was about to turn it over to the clerk I realized it was signed by George Harrison, I grabbed the guitar back and walked right out the door of the store, (all this time, no one recognized George except for me). He saw that I kept the guitar, smiled at me and said thank you. I was waiting for a ride home and sat and talked with George, who was telling me about Hinduism.....what does it all mean? need an interpretation.

I had a very vivid dream about the BB's.....Dennis, Carl, Brian and I were walking in the park (the same park that Carl is walking around in, in the Long Promised Road video on one of the documentaries)...guys were aged in that era, 3 guesses whose side I was glued to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fWkz3EfRXAanyway, Dennis was chasing leaves and acting silly. We suddenly found ourselves quite lost....Denny said something hilarious about finding our way back by watching the sun bounce off of Mike's head like a beacon...Brian was laughing hysterically.

Could it be that Mike's finally mellowing with age, or does he maybe want to keep the door open to a possible reunion? Until a couple of years ago he always seemed so bitter and envious (of Brian mostly) in interviews, but lately he seems to be a lot cooler and more positive.
He may have been reading all these message boards and saw how people didn't care for his negative mean self concerning Brian. People change. I saw him and Bruce at a concert last summer here in New Mexico, and they and the rest of the band were not too bad at all, Mike was very upbeat and joking around the whole show. As for a reunion, it would be cool I guess. It won't be the same without Carl and Denny, though. I wanna see Al, Brian, Mike, David, and Bruce there....

My daughter's boyfriend has already preordered it...it sounds like fun, and it would have been cool if they would come out with a BB version.
I play the game with the kids, just cannot get that guitar down, I end up playing the drums.

I have seen both. I like BB An American family better myself. They did a better job casting the characters, because the actors who played Mike, Audree, Murry, young Brian , manson and especially Nick Stabile who played Dennis, they all had striking resemblence to their characters. If I am not mistaken, Jennifer Wilson was also on that movie, playing a dancer. It was not IMHO as true to the story as Summer Dreams; the Van Dyke Parks character in SD was blonde, and names were changed for a couple of characters, but overall it was my favorite.
Summer Dreams, it's more true to form, but the characters didn't look like realistic. Bruce Greenwood does sing a beautiful song in the movie, and actually his mannerisms, the way he carried himself etc, was very Dennis-like. But argh! The FAKE BEARDS in that movie, during the BB beard stage, argh..they look like they glued fake fur to their face or glued some kind of animal pelts to their face...
