1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys (M&B) concert cancelled in Chile on: October 14, 2012, 01:21:54 PM
but it seems that the absence of Brian Wilson and confusion about the 50th Anniversary Tour was bad publicity and did not sell many tickets

Is that what it says in the articles?

The press articles only reproduce the words from the promoter, but in the previous press of the concert were mentioned the absence of Brian, Al and David in Chile and the success of the 50th Anniversary Tour, many people showed confusion and lack of interest to see an 'alternative' lineup of the Beach Boys (in facebook and comments of the newspapers websites).

When a show is cancelled in the region, one common excuse is 'logistical problems'.

The reason was 'logistical problems' (according to the promoter), but it seems that the absence of Brian Wilson and confusion about the 50th Anniversary Tour was bad publicity and did not sell many tickets

3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Official thread for Brian & Al's Official Response to Mike/Bruce Band Tour in the LA Times on: October 09, 2012, 11:52:04 AM
I personally could care less about Mike's commitment to his venues, his fans, his bandmembers and his crew. Gimme a break - we're talking peanut numbers here. It's like saying "I'd like to accept your invitation for dinner at the White House Mr. President, but Tuesday night is Bingo night at the VFW."

 Seriously.

So he should cancel his October concerts, tell his band and crew they'll just have to go hungry this year and let down the SOuth American fans who bought tickets?

Is there something else they would be doing at the moment if Mike and Bruce weren't on tour? What's the big deal?

In South America it's not a big problem cancel a show with months of anticipation... however if I know that the cancel is for waiting a full Beach Boys show in some time... cancel all you want it!!  Grin

With regard to the show in Latin America where it stated Brian wouldn't make it to South America; as I answered in an earlier question....he was not asked to go ; this is a booking of The Mike/Bruce Beach Boys and their band; not the reunion tour.  He and the guys are going to Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore for goodness sakes; alot further away than Peru !!!   If there is a booking for The Beach Boys 50th in Latin America ; he will go.

That's my greatest desire!! I hope Brian and the boys come soon to south america  Smiley

Ray, thanx for your answers!

At this time, south america it's not anymore a secondary market... remember Rock in Rio, many official DVDs filmed in the region, Roger Water's 10 shows in Buenos Aires, Paul McCartney are doing shows here in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Maybe still we aren't on europe and north america level but today we are important for most of the artists. We need The Original 50th Anniversary Tour, not the Bruce and Mike show, that's a wrong move for the Boys.

Yes I asked him about that as I heard about a show being booked in Latin America but he had no idea what I was talking about.  I believe that it does not involve Brian , Al or David ; just Mike and Bruce and  their band.   Brian loves touring overseas , particularly in the UK and Australia....Japan too.  I think he played in Sao Paulo in the mid-2000's if I recall.

oh, I'm peruvian and that's sad news to me. Thanks for sharing a little of your friendship with Brian!

Awesome Ray, read your post make me happy.

You know the Brian opinion about touring overseas? because in south america announced a visit of the Beach Boys without him (Mike/Bruce band) in october and if Brian is feeling good about play with the boys again, I can't explain why he isn't coming , I wanna see them so badly Sad

thanx again!

The chilean press promotes the Mike/Bruce show as the 50th anniversary tour, the confirmed line up is (according several local news media):

"...Mike Love y Bruce Johnston, quienes junto a Christian Love, Randell Kirsch, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill y Scott Totten..."

and the reports make reference the new album and other things about the reunion.

I wonder if they will play songs like TWGMTR or Isn't it time

The show in Chile is now confirmed, October 26 will be the day.

And the news are 'Beach Boys in their 50th anniversary tour'... 'their first record in decades' ...  but Mike and Bruce band.

I hope they come to Perú to see them but without Brian , Al and David it's not 'the great' news to me

This is from the most important newspaper in Perú (and taken from a interview with an important chilean newspaper)

The Beach Boys confirms South American Tour

Vocalist of the band Mike Love, announces visit in october but without Brian Wilson.

The legendary californian rock band The Beach Boys, will visit south america. This was announced by Mike Love, lead vocal and composer of the group, to chilean newspaper 'La Tercera'.

In a telephone conversation, Love declares that these shows will not be part of the concert series of the reunion tour, so it will not be counted with the presence of Brian Wilson, perhaps the most emblematic member of the group.

As recalled, The Beach Boys have 50 dates around the world to celebrate its 50th anniversary in music.

Hi
My name is Augusto, I'm from Lima, Peru and my love for the greatest american band is increasing day by day, I hope will see the band someday. The Mike/Bruce version came to Peru in 2005 but I wasn't very interested in the band in that time (to my bad luck). Maybe all of you know but the lyrics of Surfin' Safari includes a reference to my country Smiley

I'm pleased to be here
