"Only Over You" from the "Mirage" album had a side note which read, "With special thanks for inspiration to Dennis Wilson".

Hey guys!

Hope everyone had a great holiday! Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you. This time of year is always very busy. Thanks for forwarding that list, zaval. I really appreciate it. As far as SOT 15 disc 3, tracks 30 and 31, I did not realize I forgot to add those. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I will update my collection and list accordingly. As far as the Jazz Improv, that is at the beginning of "Good Vibrations (Session 9) (Bridge) (Version 1) (Session Clip) (Stereo)" which can be found on disc 4, track 10 of the collection. I encourage any and all feedback from everyone. Together, I really think we can create something both great and cohesive. I noticed you had made other notes in your posted list. I will try to address those soon. For now, I just wanted to reply back to let you know the state of those 3 specific tracks you mentioned. Again, thanks for pointing out the two missing tracks! My apologies for overlooking them. I will post the updated list when I get a chance. Take care, guys! Speak soon!

Hey guys!

Thanks for checking out the list! Piecing together this collection was quite an arduous task but well worth it in the end. I will get to work on a source list. I really should have kept one from the beginning but sometimes things like this can take away from your concentration when you're "in the moment" creating the project. Like I said in my previous post, the "Session Inventory" was an invaluable resource. I too got sidetracked by the "Unbooted" listings, however found most of those missing pieces by searching online. It gets tricky because, as far as I could gather, some of those pieces are in fact unbooted and not available anywhere, whereas some of them are available and were just not placed on a certain disc. In situations like these, I tried to find as much as I could while not getting too hung up in finding some of the tracks that seemed impossible to locate. I hope that helped a bit, guys! Thanks for replying and I'll try to get that source list up very soon! Take care!

Hey Everyone!

For the past month, I've been busy gathering all the available bits of the SMiLE sessions that I have collected over the years. Using the "Session Inventory" from this board, as well as the new box to fill in the missing/better quality pieces, I wanted to assemble the Ultimate SMiLE Collection. I wanted to gather everything I could (sessions, master takes, mixes, etc.) in the best quality available to be able to add some coherency to my own collection. In the end, I am left with a 20 Disc collection made up of 501 tracks. It clocks in at over 22 hours altogether. The layout of the collection is as follows:

Disc 1 - The 2011 Album Approximation

Discs 2-4 - The "Good Vibrations" Sessions

Discs 5-14 - The "SMiLE" Sessions

Discs 15-16 - Misc. Sessions (1967-1971)

Discs 17-20 - Mixes And Edits (1967-2011)

I am attaching a link to the finalized tracklist to get some feedback from all of you. I would really love to hear your comments and thoughts. My aim is to have as complete of a collection as possible, without being redunant. I hope you like what you see! SMiLE on!

I agree, man. Parts like that make you wonder what CWTL might have turned into. Does anyone have any info on those two mixes from Archaeology? I would really like to know their origin. Keep rockin' guys!

Did Brian ever make any test mixes of CWTL? As you said, there is the ML 1988 Mix but I am curious as to where the two mixes from Archaeology (disc 5, tracks 6 and 7) came from. Are these authentic BW mixes or were they made by someone else's hand?

Thanks for the reply, Andrew! I'll take your word for it. I wasn't doubting the compilers of the set. Was just making sure there wasn't a mix up in the order of the tracks (i.e. the Good Vibes sessions) Take care!

Anybody?
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Cool, Cool Water Sessions on: November 18, 2011, 04:46:43 AM
Hey guys!

I've been re-listening to all the session clips I could come across and have a question regarding the CCW sessions. Is the order of the CCW sessions on SOT 19 correct? There seems to be a few inconsistencies: the vocals seem to jump around a bit and the takes that make up the third clip on the TSS box (disc 4, track 15) come before the takes that make up the second clip on the TSS track. Any info anyone could give would be great! Thanks in advance, guys. Rock on!

Hey guys!

I've spent the past few days getting my collection in order for "the big day". As I've said before, it's great to finally have a list to go by. In order to keep the list as comprehensive as possible, I just wanted to throw in a few suggestions about "Good Vibrations." While the list does a great job categorizing the sessions themselves, I think there are a few bits and pieces that are missing: the 1983 Rarities LP mix (which is available in much better quality on the GV 40th Anniversary disc) and another mix of lead and backing vocal overdubs, timing 3:51, which can be found on Vigotone SMiLE, disc 2, track 1 as part of the 7:42 mix of that track. I am also wondering if there aren't any bits and pieces on the "A Pocket Symphony" cd that we may have missed as well. I will try to compare and contrast tomorrow to see if I can find anything, but if anyone else has any info, feel free to jump in and tell us what you know! Take care everyone! Speak soon!

Hey Hypehat!

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't started sorting the tracks yet tonight, but off memory there are sessions for takes 1-10 of Gee and takes 1-10 of the dum dum dum section.  At first I assumed the session listed was for the "dum dum dums" but later on in the list, it is listed separately. I believe those are the two lengthy sessions you are referring to. Take care!

Hey man!

First of all, thanks so much for taking the time to organize all the available versions of these amazing songs. Your list will definitely be the perfect compliment to the new box that's coming shortly (I'm literally chomping at the bit for it, no pun intended!) I have been following your list, but I am having a little trouble with the following listing:

Part 2, two revised version mono mix attempts (mono) (3:40)
Version 4, part 2 takes 1-10 (mono/stereo) (6:07)

Version 4, part 2 vocal overdub (mono/stereo) (0:50)
Version 4, part 2 stereo mix (stereo) (0:42)

Available on Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 17 "Smile Sessions" (Part 2, second revised version mono mix attempt) Heroes and Villains Sessions Part 2 (Part 2, first revised version mono mix attempt, version 4, part 2 takes 1-10, version 4, part 2 vocal overdub and stereo mix)

Some mono mix attempts. Version 4, part 2 is the slow "dit dit dit heroes and villains" refrain.

Try as I might, I cannot seem to locate anything on the Heroes and Villains Sessions, Part 2 disc that remotely resembles a 6:07 session for the slow "dit dit dit" refrain. I did locate the last 2 tracks listed (the vocal overdub and stereo mix) but cannot seem to find any type of session for that particular track on that particular disc. Could you please inform me as to where this could be found? Also, though I have located the two revised version mono mix attempts, they only time out to 3:25, not 3:40 as you stated. Any help you can give me would be great!

Again, thanks so much for taking the time and effort to help all of us along with attaining the ultimate SMiLE collection! I look forward to your reply! Take care!

Hey!!

I happened to see this post and thought I'd throw my hat into the ring... if I'm not mistaken, the lyrics are as follows:

Truck drivin' man
Do what you can
High tail your load off the road into night life
It's a gas, man
I don't believe I gotta grieve
I'm outta luck 'tween a buck and a booth
catchin' on to the truth in the vast past
ah, the last gasp
In land or dust, trust that you must
Catch as catch can

That's all from memory, but I'm almost positive that's correct! Hope that helps! Take care!

18  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / BIRTH WRITE ... THE NEW ALBUM BY KEVIN REGAN ... COMING 12/06 on: August 01, 2006, 05:12:44 PM
Hi all!

I've been real busy in the studio lately, working hard on my new album, Birth Write. So busy, in fact, that I completely missed out on making a submission for the vol. 2 anthology. Looking forward to vol. 3 though. Anyway, I'm posting this message to let you all know that my new single, the first from my soon to be released album, is available on http://www.audiri.com/kevinregan/songs/ ... "Coming Home" is the A-side and "Blue Eyes", the B-side. For those of you that are familiar with my other stuff (particularly "Eddie Jones" from "Trace of Genius"), you're already aware that my music is VERY Brian influenced. The music I'm making now is another huge step forward. I hope you all enjoy it. Take care.

I thought I saw someone that looked like Mike in the Garden State Plaza today.. if he's in the area.. could be.
lol The infamous Mike Love Jersey sightings. It probably was him, seeing as he's around our parts.

Ok, so I'm walking the main street of my town (Franklin Ave) blasting Pet Sounds through my headphones as I normally do whenever I walk anywhere. I look to my right and out of nowhere there's MIKE LOVE DRIVING HIS RED ESCLADE!! He was wearing a cap with his semi-long white hair coming down in the back and a Hawiian shirt. We all know how Mike Love is an unmistkeable face. If that wasn't him, Mike's got a twin lol. I came home and checked their tour schedule (just to see if I was losing my head lol) and discovered that he would be appearing on Good Morning America from New York City today. I'm from Nutley, NJ about 20 minutes away from the GMA studios if theres no traffic. It had to be him!!!! lol. I told my mom about it and she was amazed. She asked if I tried to stop him for his autograph. Nah... some people are better just being seen for a few seconds than being met at all.

anybody ever notice a Steely Dan-ish vibe in this song? Especially from SD's Can't Buy A Thrill era... Whatever the inspiration is, Here She Comes is a GREAT song!!!
