Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Good Vibrations

Attention board members! I mentioned on a few of these threads that I have been working on a 5.1 surround mix of SMiLE. Well I'm finished, and this will be released on the MQR label on the first day of summer (when else?). However I am here able to show you the surround mix of Good Vibrations. Yes, I said Good Vibrations, the song they can't even make a proper stereo mix of because of missing vocal stems. I used the best in modern technology and the many available mixes and sources to get all the vocal stems I needed and here it is in all it's full surround glory! I made this by isolating and separating the vocal tracks from the mono single, the "stereo" Smiley Smile remix, the Rarities mix, the Asher lyrics take and about a dozen different concerts released on the Lei'd in Hawaii and 66-67 box. These were composited together to recreate and thicken the original vocals. This version I'm sharing is the version with the Mike Love lyrics and is edited to match the 2011 Smile Sessions box set (the hum be da verse after gotta keep those lovin good...and the longer fade. The version appearing on the forthcoming album known as "MQR's SMiLE: Good Vibrations All Around" is the alternate mix with the Asher lyrics and the fast gotta keep section followed by an instrumental insert and then the ending. File is a multichannel flac at 16/48, so don't try to play on your phone. I hope this entertains and astounds you while also garnering interest in the project I've been working on every day for the last 7 months. https://mega.nz/file/ikgiSBjJ#WNeQAyaXUJc2rwUDmWoSDGdGsVjwFctk1Tidle_LHQsHere you go

I'm a lefty. I throw lefty, but bat righty. I write lefty, and when I started to learn the play the guitar, my teachers gave up on me because they were right and I was lefty. So, I play any stringed instruments righty. When I drum, I play a right handed kit, but I pretty much play like Ringo does.
I write and play guitar left handed, throw left handed, bat and hockey stick right handed, and the drums are a mix: The bottom of the kit is left handed (left foot for kick, right for hihat) but the top is right handed (toms go high to low left to right). Hihat and ride swap places

Which one does he masturbate with? That will tell us if he is left or right handed
Wait. You guys can do it with only one hand? Your wives have my sympathy. All kidding aside, I would assume nearly everyone does it right handed. I'm a lefty and I wank righty. Why? Pants are made right handed. Due to the way the openings in underwear, jeans, and pants face there is no option. And yeah I get it drop your pants. The thing is you are trained by your pants to use your right hand as your dick hand when you pee, so other needs just fall to the hand you use for that.

Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: TSS - All things Wind Chimes

...I seem to be in the minority in thinking it blows the Smiley version out of the water and that it fits well with the Cycle of Life songs.
That bunch of disconnected weirdness on Smiley isn't even a song to me. THIS is Windchimes. THAT is an abomination Also, speculation on whether GV was meant for the album? I think it being printed on the cover 3 times would be a clue. This is the 60s equivalent of a "Contains the hit single Good Vibrations!" sticker on the shrink wrap

Brian never sang the CIFOTM chorus or "and the children know the way" in any of the versions before '71. I think he would have, in place of the "aahs" had it been so integral in '67.
Um...am I missing something, because I hear him play the piano parts and sing the basic melody for CiFothM in both the demos, clearly indicating this was the intent all along. Just because he doesn't sing the words themselves doesn't mean sh*t. It's a demo (although the double tracking and the "take 1" at the start lead me more to believe it was an actual attempt at the basic track). James Hetfield of Metallica's demos are nothing but nah nah nah vocals put there for melodic reference, but they don't mean he hadn't got the idea planned out in his head already. Also, I get a kick out of you guys who think the words mean something, including Brian. Van Dyke has said they are more about how the sounds of the words flow together, the phonetics and syllables, rather than the meaning of the words themselves. They're gibberish with a good flow is all

One example of repeating melodies is Cabinessence's doing doings and Wonderful. Or those three phrase-ending notes he'd been using since Pet Sounds in GV's "ha-a-ir", WC's "chi-i-imes", CITFOTM "ma-a-an" and CE "ra-a-ange". These all worked like a charm, but didn't stop from being a limitation
my son calls this the Pet Sounds Tic, and it has made Pet Sounds unlistenable to me for years. It's in every song! Maybe we should all accept that, by abandoning SMiLE, Brian made another genius move by creating the first do-it-yourself modular album. This wasn't attempted again until the 90s by Todd Rundgren, and then Nine Inch Nails. He basically said "Here's the stems. Make it yourself. There is no right or wrong way"

You guys have really got me rethinking Wonderful. I still see it mostly as about a young woman coping with rape, and perhaps an attack on the hippie idea of free love and dont trust anyone over 30. But taken as a wider metaphor for the rape of America by the Europeans is a fascinating interpretation. Sorry if I got the quotes wrong as this was a big post to edit You guys got that from Wonderful? I always saw it as a song of a girl leaving home and her parents behind and finding her first love. you guys are creepy

I'm not crazy about the fly-in's.
I know this may be blasphemous, but wouldn't it be less jarring for the listener to just have Al or Mike discretely cut new leads for those two bits and maybe push them deep into the mix so they don't stick out so much? Even just as an alternative?
I really, really wouldn't have minded some bonus tracks that did this. Totally blasphemous, but it would've been cool. This is what I expected of the whole album. They should have gotten Al, Mike, Bruce and Fosget to finish the album properly. I was very very disappointed that they basically recreated a bunch of fanmixes and still gave us just hints of what could be

The funniest thing is Track 20 on Disc 2 of the box, 'Heroes And Villains: Piano Theme' at about 1:13: Kiss' 'I was made for loving you', anyone? Hahaha!
You're a few decades late to discover that! Well, I have got (erhm, let's say 'heard' for legal reasons) pretty much every BB bootleg there are (except a lot of the redundant live stuff which I don't really care for), but I guess I must have missed that one Funny, nevertheless I wasn't referring to any bootleg - that melody line is present in about every incarnation of the BR theme, including the 1967 single version, where somebody sings "do - do - do - do-do" to it, and in DYLW somebody sings "ba - ba - ba...", and the fuzz bass plays that line, too. Actually it is probably an unconscious lift by Kiss. This was written by Paul Stanley & Desmond Child. I'd put the blame squarely on Desmond

One last thing. Has anyone who has tried to put the BWPS vocal over the BB version of this song ever tried running their vocal isolations through either auto tune or a good pro level harmonizer software and changing the throat length to make Brian sound like young Brian? Haven't tried this myself yet, but thought it would be a good suggestion

it's most prominent section is just a retread of the H&V theme, Actually it is the other way around: The H&V chorus is just a retread of the Bicycle Rider section of DYLW. But how do you know these were even meant to be separate songs? Most of the album is logged under H&V, even stuff that has no relation to H&V. I think Worms was just parts of H&V that eventually got separated and made into another song, just like many other pieces

Hi guys! I'm new as of today. I joined here because I'm }{eywood from MQR, the guy who put together the Ear to Ear Expansion version of SMiLE. I am currently working on a 5.1 mix for that record, but since I had to rebuild it all from scratch I'm looking for suggestions to better the work. The commection between Tune X and Little Pad was one I've never noticed before, but am going to exploit on the new mix. Thanks to this site for that. Anything else you guys can give me information/suggestion wise is welcome and open for discussion either in thread or PM. Thanks in advance
