Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Friends vs. Sunflower

Friends. I listen to it more. Way more. And I like TM. It's short so it's not like it "ruins the album" like many people think. It may be unfitting but i think it's a good song. Love the horns. Also, Friends is a lot more fluid. It makes me feel like i'm on a beach, relaxing. Sunflower is more reflective and puts me in more of a emotional mood. Not that that's bad, I just prefer the first. Both excellent and very underrated albums.

Some guy named Bruce Springsteen...he's pretty over-rated...
I agree Bob Dylan is tad bit over-rated (not saying he's not talented) he's a great wordsmith/lyricist but musically he doesn't do it for me.. Queen is another one..Freddie's voice is unbelievable but their music is..pretty bad..just because he has a powerful/awesome voice doesn't mean you can excuse crappy songs..
Oh my god. You must have the worst taste of anyone I have ever come across. worst taste? I love my taste in music .. I wouldn't say that bands you like are bad at all. You just seem to dislike some very obviously great musicians. "Some guy named Bruce Springsteen".. not sure if you're being facetious, but i kind of agree with you. I've never heard anyone say they thought he was overrated, let alone bad. (not that i think he's bad, but i do think he's overrated)

pretty much everything by them sounds like it could be an elvis and/or everly brothers song. (in a good way)
everything they did or all their early work? because either way that's not true. sorry i meant everything they did before 1964. The stuff with Tony Sheridan and such. And i also meant to have Little Richard in there too lol. Just disregard what I said

1939, Born on this day, Betty Everett, soul singer, (1964 US No. 6 single 'The Shoop Shoop Song, It's In His Kiss', 1965 UK No. 29 single 'Getting Mighty Crowded'). She died on 19th August 2001 aged 61. 1949, Born on this day, Sandra Stevens, Brotherhood Of Man, (1976 UK No.1 single 'Save Your Kisses For Me'). 1949, Born on this day, Alan Paul, singer, Manhattan Transfer, (1977 UK No.1 'Chanson D'amour', 1981 US No.7 single 'Boy From New York City'). 1954, Born on this day, Bruce Hornsby, keyboards, vocals, The Range, (1986 US No.1 & UK No.15 single 'The Way It Is'). 1962, Born on this day, Chris Bostock, bass, Jo Boxers, (1983 UK No.3 single 'Boxer Beat'). 1984, Born on this day, Lucas Stephen Grabeel, American actor and singer High School Musical, as part of the cast had the 2006 US No.1 ‘High School Musical’ album and 2007, US No.1 ‘High School Musical 2’ album. Over 17 million viewers in the United States watched the TV premier of High School Musical; making it the highest rated basic cable broadcast in U.S. history. 1992, Born on this day, Miley Ray Cyrus, (born Destiny Hope Cyrus), American actress, singer and songwriter. Miley Stewart -Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel series, Hannah Montana. (2006 US No.1 album ‘Hannah Montana’). HANNAH MONTANA!?!?!? What's so shocking about it? At least she's better than that Celena Gomez - another girl-singer who is more boring imo than Miley. IDK why but she annoys me by her arrogant "I'm the best of the best" appearance, so Montana's OK. Having said that I don't like both of them as much as other modern singers. hahah but it's seriously like my actual birthday. 1992 and everything. just was surprising. she gets a little annoying. i don't mind sharing a birthday with her though haha

I'm guessing probably no 15 Big Ones. At that point they could have easily released something "independently" so I won't rule out Love You. Love You (or something like it) could have come out a couple years earlier, and they probably wouldn't have lost it after LA. (by "lost it" i mean went back to beach tunes)

Smiley Smile is probably one of the Boys' best albums period. The mood, the instruments, the atmospheric tension, the carrots. Amazing. Wild Honey is enjoyable and definitely deserving of any positive critique it may get, but I don't listen to it half as much as Smiley.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if The Beach Boys didn't have to release so many albums in the early years?

Well, living in the universe where they were released, I believe it would suck, cuz a lot of the early songs and albums are classics. Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, All Summer Long, Today, and SDSN not being the way they are now would not have gotten them the reputation or experience they had. Plus the album tracks on those are awesome. However, I can't really know for sure. I doubt they would have released a lot less singles.

Naming them after Dennis or Carl would be far too obvious for us hardcore fans, don't you think?
Nick Grillo *last name*
James William Guercio *last name*
Billy Hinsche *last name*
...and of course: Dick Reising *last name*
You're right. My dad knows about Brian Wilson. If I named any son i may have Brian Wilson I would probably get an eye roll from my dad. Then he'd tell everyone else

Does anyone else have plans to name any future kids they might have after any of the Beach Boys? I've actually kind of figured out a way I could. See, my dad's name is Brian and my grandpa's middle name is Wilson. Honest. So if i name my son Brian Wilson *last name* then it would technically still be a family name and the name of a Beach Boy. Seems like fate to me

Both have songs in my top ten BB songs of all time. This is actually a hard one for me. Cassius Love is a bit worse than absolutely terrible, but I don't have it on my Ipod so everything there is great too. But i'll go with ASL. I like all of the songs on both of these (notice i said songs, not studio banter), but i think i listen to ASL a little more often

Can't we start a new thread discussing track by track all the albums, beginning with Surfin' Safari? These one off threads are getting really annoying.
Isn't there already a part of the board like that? I mean the album reviews thread would be a good place for it. The only problem is that no one ever goes on those.

The Beach Boys for sure. But that's kind of weighing their first like 27 albums up against the Beatles only 10. That's a lot of the reason i like the Beach Boys so much, is cuz they have a consistent discography from the beginning to almost the end and its huge. The Beatles actually were my favorite for awhile, but i think i actually got sick of them because of people constantly putting them up on a high pedastal and seeing a bunch of other bands who were just as great or greater kinda being crapped on by people. I can't really deny how big, or influential, or talented, or good they were. But listening to them anymore i kinda feel like i'm doing it because they are the biggest band ever and i should be listening to them. Not cuz i want to. But as far as the original question goes, I'd still say the Beatles just because if I said the Rolling Stones, i'd be doing it out of spite for the Beatles and I'd also probably be wrong. But again man, i'm sorry about the outburst. That was a sh*tty thing to say to someone i don't even know.
