I find that very difficult to watch. Part of me keeps saying "oh, there he is!" Part of me, too, thinks that it really wasn't the acid especially, was it?

can someone fill me in on exactly how long that 1966 tour last, and the dates? I'm just interested in what exactly might have occurred in brian-vanland while mike and the boys were off on their successful tour--what exactly did they come back to find?
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What's VDP's problem? on: February 21, 2012, 04:17:59 PM
Ok, let me get this straight: first vdp has "lady parts" and now he's being a "kitty"? Wow. I'm speechless. No, wait, I'm not. You are a jerk and your attitude towards women is AWFUL and shameful and stupid and archaic and childish and hateful.

 NOW I'm speechless.

well. there goes ANOTHER thread! "lady parts" and VDP is childish?? fu!k

and, i think, trying to figure out something about how unresolved this is for vdp. seems that mike eder et al had a "general inquisition" (already telling way to put it!)

it really doesn't every seem to GET anywhere--just raised and re-raised unreconstructed, it seems, for years and years. the questions and the answers seem as enlightening/unenlightening as ever
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What's VDP's problem? on: February 20, 2012, 03:55:23 PM
I expect it is tiresome (or worse) to have it be almost always the first question asked, overshadowing so much else he has done.

It really reveals how deeply hurt v.d.p. still is, it seems, and how wronged he still feels, and how large this six months still looms. Part may be a continuing lament over what could have been?

However, "It's an anecdotal height of personal neutrality in an ethical dilemma"?  Huh? And wouldn't it be cool if part of it was for d.m.

"Chicks" dig it.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I think big news is coming... on: February 15, 2012, 05:59:49 PM
All I hope is that they don't use the word "chick" on the new album.

I don't think it will happen, but Indian Summer is a FANTASTIC gathering together of stuff. Summer, yet afterward (after all, summer is lo longer "school's out" for these guys or many of us, their fans), the smile church of the American Indian, Americana and so on, plus a courageous recognition of the bloom of their ages, now.  Cool yet improbable.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Complete BB Grammy video here. on: February 13, 2012, 06:27:26 AM
mentioned this on another thread. i hope the new recording let's them be who they are now, and that they don't use the studio to trick up false vocals and so on to sound as if it is still 1966. i like the fact that in that backstage clip brian mentioned mellow vocals, etc. As someone who seems to be aging myself, I love how old they are, and letting that show--musically, vocally, lyrically--would be a real treat. Again, i'm reminded of mccartney's new disk where he finally sounds his age...lovely

hopefully when they start recording new stuff they stay within the measure of themselves, because they are still really amazing, but they simply aren't in their twenties. that's what I like about mc.cartney's new thing w. diana krall quaret==he sounds old and you can hear the weather in his voice, and it sounds fantastic

the camera angle for brian behind the piano made him nearly invisible w. some shots. he also looked nervous...

ok, wibn, better, but still. . .

"She''ll use up the entire row!"

Really? With a smiley face? Really? Grow up. This was the sort of thing that was considered funny back in 1962, but, hey, it isn't funny any more and never really was. I thought it was then because i was 12!.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who would you like to see open for the Beach Boys on tour? on: February 11, 2012, 08:15:11 AM
Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes, three songs each, then back on stage w. the b.b. for a cluster of  one or two songs before the b.b. final set of songs...or not.

maybe being 61 makes you weepy, but, like the reporter, when he said "Pet Sounds" I welled up unexpectedly. Geez. and YES! I really hope, one way or another, that the boys themselves are able to feel and ENJOY the depths of this. They deserve the returns of the gifts they've made.

does it actually say "raise your fly" behind one of those solo Mike pictures?

LOS ANGELES — Get the sunglasses and tanning oil out: The Beach Boys are reuniting at The Grammy Awards for their first live performance in more than two decades.=

I think they should do a Bon Iver: back out and go finish some great new music instead. Differently put, the last time sunglasses and tanning oil was a relevant way to think about these guys was around 1965, early. Yes, I get it, they called themselves the Beach Boys and kind-of doomed themselves to this dull minded continuation of a worn out, trivializing, image.
