1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / I was thinking, what if Landy made Brian finish SMiLE in the late 80s? on: April 24, 2013, 02:26:34 AM
Has this ever been discussed? It's something I had never really given much thought to before. Like BWPS, but with no BW Band and Landy at the helm of production. And Landy obviously wouldn't call up VDP for help in the given situation. Oh man, the horror of the thought...

I feel like it would be like Rio Grande... Can you imagine an 80s Barnyard with echoey electronic drums?
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Tell us about your Beach Boys collection on: April 24, 2013, 02:10:17 AM
I hate it when people on Tumblr accuse me of not "supporting the artist" when I ask for media on there. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. I took a picture of my Beach Boys collection to prove a point and nobody's had jack to say since.  Smokin

I've got a ton of Beach Boys stuff, though, ranging from an almost complete vinyl album collection to tour programs to books to box sets to cds and dvds galore. I will make a list at a later time.
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Howard Stern 1998 interview on: March 13, 2013, 10:50:28 AM
Any leads on the older BW interview on the Stern show? The YT link for the 1989 one only has about 5 seconds or something of Brian in it total.
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Complete Non-Album tracklist on: February 24, 2013, 11:13:09 PM
Is this all just stuff that's been "officially" released? Or does this list include stuff on bootlegs, as well? I would love to see a completed list that includes both. You know, like a list of all the non-albums tracks that are.... 'Available' to us if we really wanted them.

Love this comment on Facebook.

Looks like SeaWorld is oblivious as to who is actually in the Beach Boys band they booked.  Grin

But, you know, according to some people on here, you'd have to be LIVING UNDER A ROCK NOT TO KNOW IT'S NOT THE REUNION BAND.

This is what I mean, of course we know. The rest of America? They bought tickets to what they thought was a reunion tour.... If the promoters can't even tell the difference, what makes us think that the average American who doesn't really care about the BB like we do would be able to?
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's Five Best Ever Compositions on: January 09, 2013, 08:11:31 PM
First that come to mind:

Midnight's Another Day
Til I Die
I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
Surf's Up
Kiss Me, Baby

Well, you know, there really aren't that many Beach Boys fans in the general US population. We are of a rare breed.

No!!!! I missed it! lol

Anyone have that 1988/89 BW interview with Howard? I've been really getting into the Stern show lately and of course, I love BW. So this sounds epic.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which Beach Boys \ on: October 27, 2012, 07:10:18 PM
409, Be True to Your School, Surfin, Ballad of Ole Betsy, Wendy, Then I Kissed Her, probably a few more.

All songs that fall into my personal "least favorites" category.

visit AGD's stupendous site.

I poked around on it, but there's so much there that I didn't know where to find it. Any guidance? lol

Is there a list anywhere of songs we know of from the Wilson/Paley sessions and which ones have been "booted"?

Im excited to hear about this DVD! I really want to get it, but I think I'm going to save it for the Christmas list.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: C50 Blu ray Nov 20 (edit)... and new fastfocusTV doc on: October 16, 2012, 01:07:26 AM
Ouch... 21 songs hurts. Especially when, realistically, the sets were twice that length. We need full documentation on the tour and a full show in pro-shot quality.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Meet Me In My Dreams Tonight/BW88 discussion... on: October 12, 2012, 12:53:45 AM
Despite the Landy brainwash and the 80s production, BW88 is a really good BW solo album and he shines through all of the negative characteristics about it, giving it its longevity. Great songs on that one. Melt Away is a Brian Wilson gem. It showed he's definitely still "got it" in terms of writing music with artistic integrity. Beautiful harmonies.

I'm in America and it's blocked. Your mixes are great, though!

Dang, Do It Again is down  Undecided
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: October 10, 2012, 10:02:45 PM
Did Holland get a remaster this year? I know it's not a part of the 12 album deal, but I thought I read someone say they found a digital version of a new Holland remaster. Or maybe I was dreaming lol.
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: October 09, 2012, 11:56:43 PM
I went to Walmart after work (no money at the moment, just wanted to see them and hold them in my hands), but they didn't have ANY of the new BB releases. Not even the 1-disc greatest hits.

I probably won't buy all of them next paycheck, but I at least want to try to get 50BO and 2-3 of the remasters (Sunflower and Surf's Up? Mmmm). I hope Best Buy still has them cheap next week.

My gf's also got Spotify, so I'll get to listen on there until then. Phew.
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is anybody going to one of the Mike&Bruce gigs? on: October 08, 2012, 10:23:36 AM
Alright, alright. Maybe I underestimated Mike's ability to sell out a show within a week lol. I got schooled.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is anybody going to one of the Mike&Bruce gigs? on: October 08, 2012, 12:59:06 AM
So I was thinking about seeing Mike and Bruce on New Years Eve. I didn't have money to buy tickets right away, but figured they wouldn't go too fast. I checked the other day and the tickets hadn't even been on sale for a week and both shows booked that night are close to sold out (literally 10 or less front spots, couple regions of nosebleed).

I can't help but think that a lot of those people thought it was a show for the real Beach Boys.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Probyn Gregory interview - new album, tour & grammy's info on: October 05, 2012, 10:04:47 PM
Probyn got in trouble with who I'm assuming were Brian's people (for being genuinely honest, which is bs imo) and he asked for it to be removed from internet sources because of that. I don't know what he got in trouble about, but it's silly. I understand the bad publicity, but really, I'm sure if I asked the people sitting around me at the reunion show I went to if they heard about that Probyn Gregory interview, they'd respond asking "Probe what? Who?" even if it remained online.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Probyn Gregory interview - new album, tour & grammy's info on: October 04, 2012, 10:44:58 PM
Why can't we know what was wrong with it?
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Probyn Gregory interview - new album, tour & grammy's info on: October 04, 2012, 06:38:47 PM
Well... I think I could get away with this:

Type this into Google (include the quotations) = "Probyn Gregory is a Los Angeles based musician best known for"

Look for the link that has to do with Tumblr tags. Scroll down a bit.

See if that works lol.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Probyn Gregory interview - new album, tour & grammy's info on: October 04, 2012, 06:32:00 PM
Well I wouldn't want to be banned lol. It would be a silly reason for a ban, though. Isn't that kind of like the WikiLeaks stuff? Public domain? I could publish it because it's already been out there because of publisher's rights? Isn't that why Assange can post all of that stuff? Or am I thinking of something else? lol.
