To bring things back on track to Jack a little bit here...... I've just watched a 2009 Dutch documentary called The Making of "Holland" and Reiley says this....
"I should mention... I was determined to push them to appear at the Monterey Pop festival, which we did"
WTF?

Dave in our book The Beach Boys In Concert, Jon and I discussed this. For a long time the bb tracks were missing but brother now has them. But the encores are still missing
There is an audience recording of the 14 June 1975 Madison Square show where Dennis sings a superb You Are So Beautiful with Bobby Lamm - the best of all versions in my opinion. I presume this was an encore and thus is missing from the multis. I still long to hear a pristine version of this song with Dennis in good voice - as he still was in 75.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mastering Error on MIC Disc 3 ?

My copy (purchased from Amazon) has the 2-second issue on Disc 3 as described. I noticed it mostly because the very beginning of "Do It Again," when I ripped it for iTunes, begins with the very end of the fade of the previous track.
Yeah i noticed this instantly. Do It Again begins with the echo from the end of Murray The K. All songs begin at 0:02. And Surf's Up does end abruptly. Nippy

Still, Brian's falsetto on the bridge of This Whole World is so raspy it makes me feel he sang it with a beard on. As if it was from the Love You period. Check it out!
I always thought that bridge was very nice and clean. Even vocals only.
Is it just me or is Brians part at that section mixed waaaay back in the a cappella version compared to the original?

Now this is a treasure. We expected greatness from WIBNTLA. But here comes this tune ... so incredibly simple, yet powerful. The first 30 seconds are about the most emotionally affecting music I've heard from the group. Just astonishing.
Perhaps the rest of the song doesn't live up to that opening, but still ... I've no words. The box is, interestingly enough, almost a follow-up to Dennis's POB/Bambu reissue. It shows how important he was to the band in the late 60s and 70s, and just how much magnificent music he contributed. Between WIBNTLA, Barnyard Blues, Mona Kani and this ... amazing. What depths to this band and these guys.
Funnily enough, it feels like we've about reach saturation point with Brian's stuff. As interesting as "Why" and "Where is She" might be, they're really just sketches. The lost masterpieces of BW's career are mostly issued (with the exception of a few Adult Child tracks and stuff from his solo career). But it also feels like we're just getting started with Dennis.
Very well put. This song has completely knocked me out. Ive listened to the box through once now and this is the real standout. I dont think ive ever been so moved by a song on first hearing. I was walking as i was listening to it and it stopped me in my tracks, honestly. Dennis just nails it, whatever "it" is. I didnt know it was possible to love Dennis any more. A truly stunning song and performance. God bless Dennis Wilson. I wonder how many other little gems are still in the vaults...? As mentioned before, MiC is another big addition towards showing the real greatness of Dennis.

One that really sticks out for me is on the studio version of "Marcella," during each chorus...Dennis has a really killer backing vocal..."One arm...one arm over my shoulder....sandals...that dance, dance at my feet.....her eyes, her eyes knock you right over....Ooh my/Mar....Marcella's so sweet." The way he belts those out....
I was just about to suggest THIS. Outstanding

I met Brian in Los Angeles in June, 1976. Then I hung out with him for about an hour at his house in Bel-Air.
Mikie, cool stuff, can you tell us more? Did you get a sneak preview of 15 Big One's - or were you just shooting the breeze and enjoying the day? Yeah, it's a long story, Alan. One that I like to embellish and milk for all it's worth. Just kidding. I'm gonna send Jon my story and let him tell it. He's a better writer than I am. I, for one, would love to hear that story. Do tell....

Thanks for this. But around half of the tracks are greyed-out and unavailable for listening ? See the spotify thread. Only some countries have access to all the tracks. Not sure which beyond Finland at the moment (poster STE can access all the tracks and is busy demythologizing WIBNTLA as we type). yeah i saw that. At least he's bigging up Country Air!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Christmas Creation of M.I.U.

Re-cap: the BBs record a Christmas album; said Xmas album gets rejected by their label; the BB's overdubbed non-holiday vocals; M.I.U. releases.
Accurate recap - didn't happen that way at all. Seasonal and non-seasonal tracks recorded simultaneously. Don't believe me ? Gigs & sessions 1977Love You, Adult/Child, Dennis solo albums, Spring sessions, cancelled gigs, Waves gigs and the beginnings of Celebration, a Dennis solo tour (nearly), changing labels and contracts, mega bust-ups and two concurrent albums at the Iowa sessions....... Jeez, what a complicated, fractured and crazy time for the band

There needs to be a Dennis Wilson boxed set or something, I don't care. That man could compose MUSIC. Didn't you almost start to cry when Carl started singing. So many people who DIDN'T hear this music, so sad. For that window of time - 1971-73 - Dennis had an incredible singing voice - and we're only hearing it NOW! Sorry for the rambling...
Couldnt agree more. Aint rambling Sheriff. I could talk for hours about this. Its unbelievable how Dennis never had the commercial spotlight that his brilliant talents deserved at that time. The reasons must be myriad. Lets be thankful that we are getting to hear his voice now. That Rhonda track knocked me out! What a star he was/is
