I LOVE THIS ALBUM..THEN AGAIN ..i love the whole period from today UP TO love you......i got this when i first discovered the beach boys in the mid eighties...i always skipped bluebirds and cottonfeilds..but i just loved the rest..now i don't mind bluebirds and cottonfeilds at all...imagine if breakaway and celebrate the news were in their place..then this would be a masterpiece..oh well...DO IT AGAIN, I CAN HEAR MUSIC...THE INCREDIBLE BE WITH ME..ETC..a great great record indeed..( hey i lobe sister ray and the carpenters to....)

a fact is a fact..this is a five star masterpiece...its not a matter of opinion....one of the great,pinnacle moments in rock history..that cannot be disputed ,it cannot be denied...utterly beautiful and utterly perfect.....as great and as important as highly 61, the classic beatle lps,/..neil young's tonights the night......astral weeks..etc etc..like those lp,s..there is nothing that sounds anything like it..a true masterpiece....i gave a copy to my son..i explained that at school they will teach him about alexander graham bell,napoleon,shakespear, mikelangelo,jesus ,the pyramids of eygyt etc etc,,but one thing they should teach him about ,but wont is PET SOUNDS..and i gave him his first vinyl copy....

i just love this album...and yet it took my a while to come around to it..oddly it was my young sons favourite, he loved all the weird .kooky,strange stuff, so it was the one we played the most..and now i just love it..there is no other album by anyone ,at any point that is quite like it..space out, weird,beautiful,psychedelic,waked out...and awesome...

from an album i never played to one i truly love.....stop typing now and go put it on.....back....yep..just awesome....
trader in particular...yet another of carls incredible songs from this period......
not as great as SUFS UP...but still a must have album.....

CUDDLE UP....CUDDLE UP..CUDDLE UP....my favourite ever denny song..and one of my all time favourite songs PERIOD...i can only think of two other songs that have that same effect on me..spaced out,dreamy,other wordily,profoundly beautiful...they being JUDEE SILLS THE KISS..and NEIL YOUNGS EXPECTING TO FLY..time stands still when i hear these songs....
as for the rest of the album there is some junk..he come down,in particular..but marcela,hold on dear brother and the whole of side two are fabulous....a much underrated album

I've always loved this beach boys record..it was the first i really listened to>Back in the mid 1980,s an older friend said his 3 favourite records included PET SOUNDS. My reaction was "what??the beach boys??"HE said i seriously should check out the beach boys.Then another friend told me that he heard an album called SURFS UP and it was really great.Dubiously i found a copy of SURFS UP and took it round to a friends house who i listened to lots of records with..from captain beef heart to sun ra to nick drake to the velvet underground..He thought the same as me.."the beach boys?? really?? ok lets check them out"..we smoked a big one and sat back as the needle hot the opening sound..some 35 minutes later as SURFS UP finished we looked at each other and exclaimed 'WOW..WHAT THE %$#, THAT WAS INCREDIBLE...AS GREAT AS ABBEY ROAD" MY friend claimed..and that was it for us..we immediately became fanatics..big time fanatics...and running a record store..an indie record store..more known for its independent and alternative stock..as del as a healthy stock of sixties psychedelic..free jazz..delta blues and all things neil young and bob dylan..i think we turned half our customers onto all things beach boys....25 years later..im the first guy in my country with THE SMILE SESSIONS BOX..haah..BUT BACK TO surfs up...WHAT APART FROM MIKES DREADFUL CELL BLOCK is there not to love about this album?? LONG PROMISED ROAD..TILL I DIE...SURFS UP..DONT GO NEAR THE WATER..THE TRULY OUTTHERE..THE DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TREE..THE MAGNIFICENT FEEL FLOWS..wow wow and wow...we used to play DISNEY GIRLS on repeat..just perfect pop..for me this is a total 5 star masterpiece....and carls two songs are right up there as my favourite bb songs...so in a nutshell this sits easily amongst my favourite beach boy albums and in my top 20 lps of all time
