But I think that’s partially my point: in the crazy amount of years these guys were a band, solo or together, they made a lot of music, much of it still in demo form, and I just thought that while our guys were still alive and breathing it would be interesting for them to find an album’s worth of songs that were left unfinished (or songs they weren’t happy with) to make a “reunion” album of sorts.

Frankly this was more of a thought experiment to get some life back on this forum so thanks for contributing more of an abstract thing, not something I legit think should or could happen.

I 100% agree. All those partially finished songs we've gotten in compilations over the years (It's Natural, Ecology, Walkin', Lonely Days, etc...) are just crying to be finished. Some additional lyrics, a few melodies, and the boys to sing them is all they need to my ears. Would they be universally praised as classics and sell millions? No. But to a long time fan like myself, it would bring me great joy.

It's not too late!! Most of the boys, not to mention their children, still sound great! If they really wanted, they could even bring the AI in to make their voices sound younger to match the old demos. Meanwhile, Mr. Jardine is out there working on Waves of Love 7.2c. Come on folks! I need "I've Got A Friend" finished in 2024.

I love Don't Fight The Sea as well. The story of how it finally got finished was really exciting at the time. I think it would be amazing if they did something similar with "Dancin' the Night Away". They could all trade off on the leads, combine during backgrounds/chorus and wouldn't have to be in the same room! The bridge is already finished and has Carl's beautiful contribution. A guy can dream.

Thank you for this! I honestly wasn't expecting much considering the sound quality of the original. Somehow you managed to make it all sound more pleasing to the ears. I've been clamoring for a clean version ever since I heard rumor that there is one in the vault that just isn't being released.

I look forward to these releases every year. When all we got last year was a couple songs I knew that meant something truly amazing was being prepared. I check this site every day with heavy anticipation of news of its release. I signed the petition and am waiting and hoping for the chance to throw my money at this band and their amazing music.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers former guitarist John Fruciante seemed to be influenced by them. They even covered I Get Around in concert (and did a decent/energetic job of it):

Their By The Way album had a lot of wordless falsetto ohh and ahh type background harmonies that to me just screamed Beach Boys influence. Listen to the chorus on Tear and you'll get an earful of it:

I too always wished someone would take the 65 Sandy track with partial vocals and just finish it using the 76 Sherri lyrics and melody. It's just sitting there, begging to be finished. I got tired of waiting so I thought I'd take a crack at it. I quickly discovered that the 76 version had 4 extra measures at the beginning (Brian starts singing on the pickup to verse 5,  i.e. a few notes before the 65 track even starts) and was in a different key/speed. I took cut two measure out of it, "fixed" the key/speed and put it into the beginning of the 65 track. It doesn't sound perfect, but it's all I had to work with. Then I tried to sit down and figure out Brian's chorus harmonies by ear. That quickly gave me a headache. I figured out part of them, then just decided to fill out the rest myself. I only have a handheld recorder (albeit decent quality) to work with and I was recording in front of my computer with one headphone on, so it sounds like I'm singing in my bathroom. Also, having only a handheld recorder and Audacity to work with, I had to assemble all the vocals manually. After making a test mixdown mp3, I noticed I was off on a few notes and Audacity had somehow brickwalled the chorus harmonies. When your off a little while doing 5 different vocal parts, it's pretty obvious. I reopened Audacity so I could figure out which one I messed up and redo it, but the file was corrupted and all my parts had been erased. I still had the raw wav files, but I didn't feel like spending another couple of hours resyncing them over a note or two.

Long story short, I'd love to hear some critiques of what I came up with. Do the harmonies sound close to right? Thanks

Hi. I'm Andrew. I've been a pretty big Beach Boy's fan my whole life. I loved all the hits. It went to a whole new level when I got the Warmth of the Sun compilation and I heard all the great Today/Summer Days songs, not to mention Surf's Up and Til I Die. Since then, I can't get enough of them. I love making my own "complete" version of each album. I compile them using whatever the best songs are from that era whether that's a stereo mix, unreleased gem, alt version or whatever.

I've been lurking on this board since about 2008 and in the wake of the Smile Sessions decided to finally join on. This place is one of the best message boards of any kind on the web and I hope I can measure up to it's usual quality.
