1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine - 2022 Tour Thread (Plus Archived 2018-2021) on: February 12, 2022, 01:22:33 PM
It's funny... I work about ten minutes from the Keswick and the first I heard about the show was yesterday lunchtime. But when I tried to look at tickets I got a 'none available' message. I was kind of shocked that they would have sold out the place: I suppose the cancellation wheels were already in motion.

But their website answers a lot of the questions upthread:

The five-member band for the tour will be led by Rob Bonfiglio, who is Wilson Phillips’ musical director and performs regularly in Brian Wilson's band. Audiences will enjoy legendary hits of The Beach Boys, including “Help Me”, “Rhonda”, “California Girls”, “I Get Around”, “God Only Knows”, and “Good Vibrations” to name a few. The show will also feature the Wilson Phillips catalogue, including “Hold On”, “The Dream is Still Alive”, “You’re In Love”, “Impulsive”, and “Release Me”.

Also, does anybody know if Blondie slated to appear at the October shows?

FWIW, it doesn't look like Darian will be at any of the fall shows - he's touring with The Zombies at the same time:

Notice, also, that the statement doesn't say he'll be playing Pet Sounds, rather that the tour will be celebrating same.

For what it's worth, the 2006 shows were promoted as:
"Legendary Beach Boy founder/composer/producer BRIAN WILSON, with the 40th Anniversary Tour of the landmark album PET SOUNDS, presented by him in its entirety for the last time ever!"
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Stereo Remixes on: October 21, 2013, 12:00:56 PM
It's not complete (doesn't include MiC), and needs re-writing badly, but this gives you a broad overview:

Bellagio 10452 - mono/stereo

Thank you - that's great.

It doesn't look like it includes all the variations out there. I'm thinking someone might have to sit down with Excel and a stiff drink and try and make even more sense of what's out there. I wish I had the time for that someone to be me.

Wow... with the recent stereo/mono album releases and the Made in California box, has anyone attempted a canonical list of stereo remixes?
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian with Jeff Beck Fall Tour Dates on: August 07, 2013, 06:26:17 AM
The meet and greet part was a bit of a waste of time but the soundcheck and seat in the first few  rows I thought was worth the extra couple of hundred bucks last year in Boston. Especially the soundcheck.

At least now they're telling the truth and calling it a "photo op" rather than a "meet and greet".

This time, I think the paying an extra $400 for the VIP or an extra $150 for just the soundcheck is a little too much. Maybe they're counting on a bunch of Jeff Beck fans jumping on board.

Did either of you follow the link to the Tower site?  The ticket pricing is outrageous.  (Can it be correct?)  Makes Bethlehem, while not cheap, look like a bargain.

That's a link to a secondary market ticket broker.

The correct Tower Theater link is here:

You can also find VIP packages for all the shows here:

I have two posters that I'll probably never use. If you want one, PM me with an offer.

Isn't Brian on some medication that can limit his ability to express himself facially?

It may be more of a symptom of his illness than a side effect the medication:

At most, the M&G adds $50 to $75 bucks to the cost of a ticket.

From the link you posted, it looks like a $100 upgrade.
(Unless you think people are paying for an upgrade to rows 2-5 as opposed to rows 2-10. I'd just take my chances.)

Everyone got their VIP setas, their picture, everyone got their tote bags, shirts and posters etc.  Transaction completed.

Except, of course, for the "greet" part of "meet and greet".
(Most probably the "meet" part too, if one doesn't think that just being in the same room/photo as someone counts as a meeting.)

Or, to put it another way, if "exclusive meet & greet" is exactly the same as "personal photograph," why not just say "personal photograph"?

While I understand the concept and the reasons why fans want to do this, I find it difficult to understand why the group decided to do it.

$100 x 50 people. Multiply by 50 shows.  Divide by five band members.

I'd like to think that the band didn't expect to do more than the quick photo session, and it's VIP Nation that's unnecessarily hyping the experience.
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread For VIP Experiences on: May 14, 2012, 10:56:12 AM
The event is billed as a "Meet and Greet", NOT JUST a photo opportunity. In fact, in the way the VIP package was marketed, the "meet and greet" was its own distinct benefit and was listed separately from the personal photo with the beach boys.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I hope that you contact VIPNation, politely expressing your displeasure, and report back on their response. It could be that the folks at the head office don't know what's happening on tour. Maybe it'll get fixed for future events. Maybe you'll get some kind of compensation. Maybe they won't care. But if you don't tell them, you'll never know.

Although I understand that the guys must get quite tired of all these meet and greets/pictures ... I don't reckon it's the band's fault at all, they are almost certainly just told what to do and want to focus on the gig...

If the band signed up for a meet and greet, are taking money to do a meet and greet, and are promising a meet and greet then I don't think it's unreasonable for people to expect a meet and greet.

It's impossible to say whether it's the fault of the band for not living up to their commitments, or the fault of the promoters for promising more than the band had agreed. Either way, there's some miscommunication somewhere.

I didn't know Brian was on Clozaril, but can comment on the treatment from personal experience as a pharmacist: Clozaril is the drug of last resort for schizophrenia...

I have good friends who work in the mental health field and their reaction - to a person - upon discovering Brian takes Clozaril is generally something like "holy fucking sh*t!"
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's problem's...again on: May 02, 2012, 08:07:59 PM
. According to folks who would know, BW only dropped acid a handful of times in the 60s. His worst mental symptoms didn't occur until the 1970s, when be was primarily taking cocaine and some heroin.

For what it's worth, from 2006 or so:

"How old were you when the voices started?

About 25... I’d taken some psychedelic drugs, and then about a week after that I started hearing voices, and they’ve never stopped."
http://abilitymagazine.com/past/brianW/brianw.html

Last I heard, one of the drugs he's taking is Librium. I think Melinda said Brian was taking one or two drugs now to keep him on an even keel.

"I take Luvox for depression, Klonopin for anxiety and Clozaril to help with the voices and help me sleep at night."

OK, here's the true gen on the Amazing Disappearing Barnyard Backing Vocals.

Basically, it was an editorial decision... Seems the review streams were sourced from a pre-final set of masters.

I'm surprised nobody else asked the rather obvious question - what else of significance changed from the streams to the final version?

This is just a thought, but perhaps you could post a message on the first page describing the difference between "unbooted" and "uncirculated"? Just to avoid confusion.  Smiley

If it's listed with a track time, then it's probably fair to say that its circulating to a greater or lesser extent. I'd also imagine that it's circulating fairly freely otherwise there's not much point to listing it.

Long time lurker (I swear I used to be registered here before too) but I wanted to thank everyone who has been putting together this list. So, thank you.

I think I have all of the named discs (although my Project Smile seems to have gotten lost) but if anyone can Oh hey guys, I'm being cute and testing the moderators!oint Yes yes yes, I don't know how to follow the rules!e in the direction of the unbooted material I would be exceedingly grateful and do my best to return the favor.
