1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New series Of Review articles of each Beach Boys album on: April 06, 2025, 02:02:48 AM
I am kind of torn about what album I am going to review next. I could do SMiLE since it was recorded next but I am planning to cover both TSS and BWPS in it so it will be a major challenge to write or should I just skip to Smiley Smile and do SMiLE later?

Thanks a lot.
I read the review and it seems targeted at "beginners", which is a good thing.
Just please don't stop (practically) at 1967, like the 2024 documentary does! Smiley
I plan on doing the entire catalog plus Brian's solo work.

Who is in the backing band other than Al, Matt , Carnie and Wendy?

This thread is very informative. Maybe one should be done on the lineup history of  the Brian Wilson Band.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Opinions On Jeff’s Falsetto? on: October 20, 2017, 12:37:58 AM
I'm fine with Jeff's voice about 75% of the time. The worst he's ever sounded (the only time where I really couldn't listen) was here---
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_xSfwGc5Qw

Jeff's falsetto at the beginning is just so rough on the "I hear the sound" part. The rest of performance went fine--- UNTIL THE AUDIENCE CONTINUED CLAPPING AND IT WAS OFFBEAT AND F*CKED EVERYTHING UP! ... But that has nothing to do with Jeff...

Anyway, I usually don't mind Jeff's voice. I'd take him over Adrian Baker ANY DAY! Here's the worst clip I've ever heard of Baker--- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGt30M7yqlI&list=FLjLWTx2xziJVn8NZOaLBz5Q&index=1

Scott was doing the falsetto great, but Adrian was so nasal, it sounded like a Beach Boys parody.

I love Jeff's non-falsetto voice and in an ideal band, he'd be singing mid range parts with Matt on top with Brian's parts.
I am surprise Jeff is still doing the BWPS (And Im' Pickin Up") part with Mikes band. I never had a problem with Foskett vocally when he was in Brians band though his jokes were really tiring. Matt is a better singer by far.

Don't know, but he has had Disney committments in the past. I can't imagine the thing with Scott has been easy, though. That said, I do not have any first hand knowledge of this so in this case I'm merely speculating.
What happened to Scott? Never mind, I found out.

As a fan of both the Beach Boys and Elton John I just have to say the video and the Beach Boys version of Crocodile Rock are terrible

I wouldn't be surprised to see Summer In Paradise being added now after this!
Or worse.

20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Shows after the reunion? on: May 22, 2012, 11:04:37 PM
I think they'll go back to being three separate touring units again, but the most ideal compromise would be for Brian to tour with his band as before, with Al and David permanently joining the Mike & Bruce band.
My wish (Barring a hypothetical permanent reunion) would be Al and David permanently joining Brian's band. I don't want to grant any more legitimacy to Mike & Bruce's Endless Summer Oldies machine and I would like to keep Al and David on my good side.

This was during an autograph session? How did that topic come up? and this is the same Bruce Johnston who praised Roger Waters in the Beach Boys 50th Wal-Mart booklet.

hate to bring this up and sorry if it already has, but there is a clip of Manson in thi spart here that say's it is produced by Dennis at Brother.
That doc is full of fake things.
Using footage of Dennis telling stories about Brian and via selective editing make it seem as if he was talking about Manson, anyone?
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 9: Beacon Theatre - New York, NY - 5/8/12 on: May 09, 2012, 01:19:58 AM
Brian just plays the root note. During Barbara Ann it was very obvious being Mike D'amico was playing the walking blues bassline and Brian hands were barely moving.

just found a Kokomo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY-FjiPLvx4&feature=plcp
Stamos being there does hurt the integrity quite a bit. I hope he does not become a permanent additional band member for the rest of the tour.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 9: Beacon Theatre - New York, NY - 5/8/12 on: May 08, 2012, 11:09:01 PM
Yeah, I started laughing pretty hard too.

Something I don't remember anyone mentioning on the board is that Cowsill and Mike D'amico split drum duties, with D'amico typically playing on songs that Brian's band has played before but Mike & Bruce's haven't. D'amico played bass when Cowsill was on drums, and Probyn Gregory played bass when D'amico was on drums.

One of the exceptions to this I noticed (aside from when Stamos was drumming) was during I Just Wasn't Made for These Times, which I don't think Mike & Bruce have ever played before, but Cowsill stayed on drums and D'amico stayed on bass because Probyn was playing the tannerin.
I wonder what happened to Brett Simons  since D,Amico is doing the Bass parts. Hopefully, not what happened to Taylor and the Tasty Brothers..

Stamos needs to go.

He should never be allowed onstage for another Beach Boys show.

This is an embarrassing travesty, and an insult to the band, Denny, and the fans. Full stop.

If he were a fan he would f*cking stay off the stage.
^
This , I really hope this is his last show with them.
