Has anyone had personal experience with someone going off the deep end from using psychedelics?  I've known some serious acid heads in  my day but I dont think I've ever seen anyone go so far that they have trouble getting back. Just curious.

3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Revisiting Beachboys Recordings Gathering Dust on: March 06, 2013, 08:43:54 AM
I take it that no one has revisited their neglected sections of the BB catalogue but me, or else I'm the only one who had a neglected section. LOL

Many a section of my catalogue could be considered neglected. But as exciting of the past year was and as great as it always is to go back to the old albums on the shelf, there is so much other music out there, I haven't really given the Beach Boys that much time (TWGMTR and the Smile Sessions notwithstanding). Not that I haven't listened to anything else, but I haven't really spent a lot of time with anything else. I'm still working on finding more and more new and old music.

OCA is my springtime record, I just added it to my iphone. Such a great record.

Jonathan Wilson - Gentle Spirit is a really amazing album that a friend turned me on to recently. I cant recommend it enough. He is also producing a new album from Graham and Nash currently.

I ordered the web stream of the 4 Phish New Years shows and they opened with Garden Party on the 31st. It was great!

Has David Lowery broken up Cracker?

No, I just saw them in the spring, they played Kerosene Hat in its entirety, followed by CVB playing Key Lime Pie. I've been a huge fan of both bands for ages.

If a person seeks out any old movies, TV shows, and music shows that are not commercially available or currently in print, I recommend a website called ioffer.com. It seems to have more things on it than EBay. EBay is rather odd in that they often crack down on things that are not commercially available, but do nothing to stop people from selling bootlegs of commercially available DVD product on both EBay and Half.com.

I've used Ioffer a couple times in the past and have had good experiences.

Great, great, great band. Head Trip in Every Key is a masterpiece!

Well, Imus should know unlistenable.

As for the album, it's easily the best since Love and Theft, and possibly better than that.

Imus seems like a great source for music recommendations!
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The hipness image of the Beach Boys on: August 21, 2012, 02:23:04 PM
I agree with what you all are saying. I have a friend who is a big Elvis fan. Talking about him being so cool and ahead of his time. Personally i think Roy Orbison is cooler and he didn't get that. Roy was himself and wrote his own songs. Elvis was a showman with a James Dean image.

Holy crap do you need a refresher course on Elvis Presley.  Quite the shameful statement there.

Which part are you referring to? Song writing? I thought it was known that Col Parker got Elvis wrtiting credits for the $, that he didnt actually write any. I'm not an Elvis expert by any means, enlighten us.

I like the fact that they arent hip and never really were. It's endearing.

was it recent that he said it or was it 40 years ago? Just curious.
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson and Religion on: August 16, 2012, 09:21:14 AM
As far as Brian belief's, I think I'd say he believes in Jesus Christ, as evidenced by this quote: "We all believe in Jesus and we believe in God, and we believe that we were his messengers, so we followed through with our career as his messengers to the world".

when did he say that?

22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Finally a song from the new album on my favorite radio show... on: August 09, 2012, 06:52:19 AM
I first heard that tune on Vin Scelsa's Idiots Delight, he had pretty high praise for it and for the Beach Boys. He actually played the song and then read out the lyrics to the chorus and played it again.

My sons name is Asher if that tells you anything.

...that you're a Peter & Gordon fan?  Grin

Funny you say that, we were having dinner at a Mexican dive near my house and a guy sitting near us asked what his name was, he mentioned Peter & Gordan but was also familiar with Tony Asher.
