Just to clarify, the NME's point-scoring system was based on singles only.

My recollection is that the NME 'polls' in the 1960s were NOT derived from votes cast.  They were calculated rather more objectively on the basis of chart positions during the period in question.

For example, having the number one record in the weekly chart would earn you 20 points.  Having the number two record earned 19 points. Etc. etc.  All the way down to 1 point for number 20 in the weekly chart.  The scores were accrued week by week (no points scored if you weren't in the top 20) then totted up in early December and presented accordingly.

Our boys did particularly well in the UK during 1966 with Barbara Ann, Sloop John B, God Only Knows and Good Vibrations and amassed a huge number of points on the NME's week-by-week scoring system.  The Fabs were no slouches during the same period but were just pipped at the post.

Nothing to do with subjective popularity or votes cast - just the simple expedient of NME chart success.

Most definitely.  But it must adhere to the philosophy of Junkstar's Male Ego board i.e. no censorship, anonymous posting allowed, anything goes etc.  Without that USP, it would add little, if anything, to the BB fan experience that isn't already provided for.

I'm not sure I've understood the question properly but I've just checked on Amazon (UK) and right now it's possible to purchase ALL of the following albums bursting with JP songs:

Pay Pack & Follow
Phillips 66
Pussycat
Jack of Diamonds
Andy Warhol Presents Man on the Moon

For sure there is some duplication on the track-listings of these albums but any serious JP fan will surely need to add all of these to his/her collection.

Burrito Deluxe clearly isn't as good as the first album but let's not be too quick to dismiss it out of hand entirely.  Here's a great video clip of Older Guys with Gram putting on his very best Jagger moves.

I'm not sure that everyone is utilising a consistent interpretation of the word "composition".  Some of the voting has, I suspect, highlighted best ever "productions" or even favorite "songs" - but that wasn't the question.

For me, "Girls On the Beach" is right up there as a stunning composition - vastly more interesting than "Good Vibrations".  For that matter, "Solar System" is a more interesting composition than GV!

On the other hand, it may that I am over-analysing.  Smiley
