1  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smile Sessions Box Set (2011) / Re: All things TSS packaging, presentation and booklet etc on: March 09, 2021, 05:21:16 PM
Hello my brothers in all things Beach Boys, and thank you both for the replies.

Well, the answer regarding the batteries being already installed is both what I feared, and what I "just knew" would be the case.

After reading your post myonlysunshine, I went (with much trepidation) and opened my set. All three of the batteries are leaking from both ends, and they're all "incased" in battery acid. The worst example of it I've ever seen. At the moment, I can't even remove them. It seems the best way forward would be to replace the battery holder altogether, but I can't figure out how it's mounted in there (hot glue?) and only want to use so much force with it as to not damage the 3D box lid.

I don't make a lot of money, and had to save up to get this version of the set, so I'm really bummed out. What were they thinking selling a collectors box set like this with the batteries already installed? I thought it was common knowledge that collectors like to keep things like this sealed, and will usually buy another copy to open and listen to. You're right about those "battery installation" instructions too. They make it sound like YOU have to install them.

Sigh..... Sad

Hi UEF, and congratulations on your new SMiLE Light-Up Edition Box Set!  Smiley (That was very cool of MyOnlySunshine!)

I'm wondering if you can do me a favor. In this photograph: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5336/7185967940_9c9caae260_n.jpg there appears to be some writing that I think says "Battery Installation Instructions" and some other writing below it too small for me to read. Could you take a photo of that writing from your box set so I could read it? I'm trying to find out if the batteries came pre-installed in those light-up box sets. I have one I never opened, and have recently become worried about battery acid leaking out inside the box. (gosh, I sure hope not!)

Thank you in advance, Smiley

This is FANTASTIC!  Smiley

I've been collecting SMiLE since the first vinyl boot in 1983, and have thought about doing this very thing someday for a LONG TIME! When we got the SMiLE Sessions in 2011, I started to compile all the H&V stuff editing in sections from bootlegs to make things the most complete they could be and eventually I got overwhelmed and gave up! (LOL)

Is there going to be an audio only/flac version of this at some point?

VERY enthusiastic about this!  Hug

I sure do miss Carl. This 1973 interview with Bob Harris is short, but wonderful. Two lovely soft-spoken gentlemen having a thoughtful conversation. It's interesting to note the spectre of SMiLE still in the air.

7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Feel Flows box set on: November 17, 2019, 01:18:55 AM
From tingly @SHF:

Al Jardine said today that there is a great box set that they're working on. Its working title is Feel Flows. Contents are Sunflower, Surfs Up, and an unreleased live recording of which he has no memory doing. He didn't say what concert, physical/download, if it's certain for release, possible release date, whether remastered, if there are outtakes,...
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: CIFOTM unknown vocals on: May 26, 2019, 03:15:05 PM
This is Chris Stapledon's work. It was available on the "ProjectSMiLE CD-Rom" which was created by Chris with help from Steffan Johansson and Ken Worthing.
It came from the section on that CD-Rom called "Share-A-SMiLE". Here are the liner notes for that section:

This is Chris Stapledon's personal edit of SMiLE and is by no means historically accurate. It contains some pieces he "invented" specifically for this mix. These include lyrics and vocals for Child Is Father Of The Man, some elements of Heroes and Villains (including an enhanced version of the "Eggs and Grits" section) and a version of Surf's Up that includes sections of George Fell Into His French Horn.

Here's a link where you can read all about that CD-Rom: http://earcandy_mag.tripod.com/prosmile.htm

Gosh, that was a long time ago now!  Smiley

WOW!...What did I wander into?

I saw Part Two uploaded a few days ago, and thought I would come back and listen on a better sound system when I returned home, but it's gone!

I sure hope this all gets worked out somehow as I would really love to hear it. I've enjoyed the other Study Videos immensely. Thank You Stephen.

With the 1966 and 1967 copy write archive releases done unfortunately it seems very unlikely we are going to get this.  But didn't this come out on some advance copy CD-r's of the Smile Sessions box set?

I'm afraid you're right Lou. It was the recent archive release that brought this back to my mind. This DID come out on the watermarked 5CD advance promo set that went out to reviewers. I have a standing order with a dealer friend of mine for $1000.00 if he can find a copy of that set for me. That track was one of the things I was most looking forward to hearing in master tape quality. Sigh.

This is one of those things that just makes me sad at this point. Will we EVER get to hear it?
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Specific Beach Boys Musical Moment That Is Kicking Your Ass Right Now on: April 26, 2017, 01:22:51 PM
I found an extended version of "Walk On By" on you tube, and it's been slaying me for days now.

In the same way a sad love song would become tragic in Roy Orbison's hands, Brian and Dennis manage to make you feel so vulnerable that you don't know if you can go on another minute. Maybe it's because I'm a male, but I feel the song is more powerful from a males perspective. After all, she DOES have the upper hand, doesn't she.

God Bless Murry, Audree, and all the little Wilson's  Smiley
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Advantages of Hearing Smile in Mono on: October 06, 2016, 01:05:18 AM
I'd say that some songs would be more cohesive in mono as there isn't much instrumentation, while others are layered and could take proper advantage of the stereo sound stage.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 17 and smile box set on: September 21, 2015, 01:17:56 AM
Also, another member here  emailed me the other day to tell me  the track of Barnyard from  the 5 CD promo set for Smile Sessions is different from the released version (and the version on UM 16) in that: it has backing vocals. and, has a count in, is a few seconds longer and has better sound quality than UM16.

Hadn't heard of a physical 5cd set - thought it was previewed for press etc on a secure online stream, to prevent leaks?

Anyone have this?

Here it is:

I'm talking with somebody now about getting a copy of this set. You guys will be the first to know if I do.

Terrible how her life simply unravelled. Rest in peace, Ms Fairchild.

Here second from left (with thanks to guitarfool2002).

It is, isn't it.
Looking at that LAX Airport photo, I just noticed that of the first 8 people in line, 4 of them aren't with us in that form anymore.
In some ways, I wish time would have stood still in 1966.

It's good FTD have gotten around to this soundtrack. The fans have been asking for it for a while now. Did anybody here ever get to see Elvis live? I saw him in 1972 three days after the Madison Square Garden concerts. He was flat out amazing and the audience response was so out of control that it bordered on all out hysteria.

Was it this show?

Hi Rocker,
Great site you linked to. I'd not seen this one before. It looks like I was a day off, as Elvis was wearing the Blue Nail suit the night I saw him. It was this show:

I have the tour program and ticket stub, and I bought a poster at the show.

Mikie-if it helps, I took photos of my Smile SOT001 (with blue watermark on the back cover) and Smile 2LP white label which I can upload here if you want.
I took photos of the front and back covers, spine and the Smile A, B, C, D on the deadwax of the white label set.
If you're thinking of including photos for each set, let me know and I'll upload them
Cheers

I'd like to see those photos Cliff!  Smiley

Geez man.  He's gone.  Can we ease up in terms of urinating on him?  He was an IMPORTANT link...a KEY stepping stone...in terms of how it all evolved...at least for 2 of the absolutely MOST important albums in Beach Boys history.  Tony?  Van Dyke?  The SMiLE you cherish and spend so much time wondering and caring about?  Without the introductions?  Where would you be right now?  And still you stand there with your fly undone?

Geez zuis Mujan.  Read before you press the POST button!!!

This.

Vosse can confirm you were at the Pet Sounds sessions... aside from his being two years dead, his contemporary account proves that he wasn't at those sessions. yet you still claim he, and you were.

He died 1 year, 7 days ago.  If your entire post is based on pointing out the inaccuracies of others, it might help to get your own facts straight first.
