I think the key to plugging European and North American releases of stereo Beach Boys mixes is Smiley Smile. It's an album people love or hate and here's a way to completely re-evaluate it.  That's good fodder for music mags like Rolling Stone and Mojo.

I finally have these in my grubby little hands.  I'm at work so I plan to start listening on the ride home.  5:30 cannot come fast enough for me.  I'm a little behind on this thread but it seems like some samples are out there already.  I haven't heard any of them yet but hope I'm in for a treat.  I'll check back in with my thoughts.

How long do you think until previews of the Smile tracks are posted?  I went to http://www.thebeachboys.com in the hopes that there might be something new there but got stuck in an endless loop of the Smile splash page.  Are they updating the site...or just morons?

Anyway, using the UM SMiLE sessions as a reference point, would you reckon that the upcoming set will hold alot more unheard content than the general fan on this board?

Overall, I find CDs and vinyl to hold a lot more content, both heard and unheard, than the general fan.

Question for you folks.  Aside from the GV set, most of my familiarity with SMiLE music comes from the 3 disc UM set - and there was a VERY lo-fi CD I purchased in the early 90s as well (as an aside, I recall that when I first heard that music, I did get a VERY creepy vibe - in part from the lack of audio quality of the source material.  It's kinda like when I was a kid, and would watch old Universal, AIP, and Hammer horror films on TV, the scratched, washed-out, generally crummy prints of those films added a level of creepiness to them.  I also found stuff I viewed late at night, regardless of the content, as creepy.  I was a weird kid...but I digress.)
Anyway, using the UM SMiLE sessions as a reference point, would you reckon that the upcoming set will hold alot more unheard content than the general fan on this board?  If I recall correctly, and it has been awhile since I listened to said set, there seemed to be a good amount of overdub sessions included - especially on the vocals where you'd hear a lead singled, then doubled, then backgrounds singled, doubled, etc.  Using PSS as a template, I would suspect that there would be less of that so I suspect there will be alot of "new" music to me on this set.  Thoughts?

On the Hoffman board, there was some talk as to whether 'Holidays' was originally DYLW and if what we have to come to know as DYLW (Roll Plymouth Rock) was a reworking of that song.

and 'Holidays' is alleged to have been the home of the Roll Plymouth Rock lyrics which may be why Al had stated that "Worms' was not what has been traditionally accepted as such.

But Holidays was called so even on the recording sheet, and DYLW bears little resemblance to it and was recorded under the title. So I think that theory is unlikely. It's more likely they shifted just that line from Holidays to DYLW. But with a bit of luck, there will be some new info on the box.

On BWPS Brian shouts "Child" in between. Is that vintage too? Anybody know?

I never made the auditory connection between the 2 until today.  I'm not a musician, nor do I play one on television but there is a similar feeling to the plodding verse of DYLW and the clarinet line in Holidays (probably not the same chords or even the same key for that matter) but they seem strangely connected to me.  Again, they never did before so I just may be trying to shoehorn something here to fit my own warped interpretation.  Would love it if there were vintage "roll plymouth rock" vocals in Holiday on the upcoming box but I suspect not, since I doubt those were ever recorded and not sure if the existing 'Worms' vocals could be flown in and manipulated to match the tempo, key, etc.

Anyway, I appreciate you guys here entertaining my post, as whenever I try to chime in on the ol' Hoff board, I'm met with a deafening silence.  Guess I haven't earned my stripes over there.

Not really earth shattering stuff but I'm just sharing some thoughts as I count down to November 1st.  I could have my timeline all messed up as well which would totally negate this conjecture but I expect the experts on this board will correct me if I'm off.  

Seems to me that each day that goes by without an official announcement from Capitol is one day closer TO an official announcement from Capitol...but I'm a glass half full type of guy.   

Just to break my winning streak of 1 post...anyone buy into the theory that it was Marilyn who sh*t in the sandbox and just blamed it on Banana and Louie?
