2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Best Album is Friends on: December 30, 2010, 01:15:09 PM
It's funny. I was 17 when this album came out. Tough teenage years. Moody...smoking lots of cigarettes. Depressed over relationships. Not an easy time at all. Friends was there for me to get wasted...in a good way. The music brought me to a place where I could hide inside of it. Wrap myself in it and receive real comfort. What amazes me is that at that time Friends was considered to be such a bore to my own friends. A waste of time. The title song meant so much to me earlier in the year. And people couldn't understand why. It dropped off the charts with a bang and got such little airplay. And yet I loved it. And the album was so great. How wonderful to be able to read everyone's praises 42 years later. I guess I was right way back then. Not bad for a kid.

Brian's vocal is very sweet on "I've Got A Crush On You". To me, it is reminiscent of "Please Let me Wonder". With that song and "The Like in I Love You" I think Brian has pulled off some fine singing at his age. A bit better than "Sherry She Needs Me" no?

Thanks! How great to be able to revisit those times.

England for the weekend? From California? And after all this time, the story changes? Oh well, historically, that could be a given.

A GRAMMY?Huh Does anyone really think that Brian would win a grammy when they by-passed SMiLE? Even TLOS, to these ears deserved to win. So now they're going to take something that is sweet and nice and has only some of Brian's hand in it and say let's give him a grammy? That would be like what they did with Fire! Token award. And, not for anything but as sweet as this piece may be, after 7 or 8 listens I'm not exactly jumping up and down like I did when I first heard Morning Beat. Where's that R&R album anyway? Wink

And what about the line on Good To My Baby "and when I give her my "love" its between her and me" ? C'mon Boys you were all in the gutter very early on LOL
