Hi if any of you are veteran's of the old record room or rocking in the free world pages you might remember the quiz. Well it still exists and it's played everyday by three old troopers. We would like to invite all smiley smilers to join in. This month the Sunday quiz will be all Beach Boys and Brian Wilson questions. http://www.funtrivia.com/private/main.cfm?tid=88276

My 16 year old son and I are going to Hartford Ct. on July 24th to see Green Day. They are his favorite band, at least for the moment, and he's been listening to the new album non stop. I like them also and I keep reminding him, to keep up my hipness quotient such as it is, that I bought Dookie in "94" when he was not quite a year old.

I do all the time, not for music, but for mindless sports talk radio. I love it, "hi, 1st time long time, I'm really angry that we don't sign Manny, Eli's great, I mean he stinks".... It just numbs the brain, nothing better. So if you do and it's in the NY area I'll listen.

In August of 74 I went to see the Beach Boys and The Eagles at Rossevelt Stadium in Jersey City, the boys were the headliners.
"I was at this show...and recall that I was surprised when some audience members were yelling at Linda Ronstadt to get off the stage and bring The Beach Boys on."
Not me she was gorgeous, and I thought she was great.
Do you remember at that show when Bruce Johnston jump on stage for Good Vibrations. My firiend and I thought that was pretty cool.

Of the ones I went to, the best were, Nassau Coliseum August 1972, MSG December 1973, last show w/ Blondie, MSG November 1976 (Brian's Back) the two set show where they did Wild Honey, and the free concert at Central Park in 1977. Back then they were one of the best live concerts going, not just an oldies act they became.

we are f***ed.....
No we're not, and quite frankly making that kind of statement just shows that you're not open to see what kind of president he can be. Instead you have already made up your mind 6 hours after the election.

While I've seen some great individual shows in my life, The Stones in 72 and 89, The Airplane in 70, Zeppelin in 73, The Beach Boys from 72-77, Brian playing SMiLE @ Carnegie Hall, Springsteen, The Who in 79 (without Moon) etc... The band that I found to be the most interesting, innovative, sometimes reaching out for some sort of cosmic goal and getting there, and sometimes falling flat on their faces, you always wanted to come back for more, The Grateful Dead. I saw them play about 100 plus times from 79 till Garcia died in 95.

The one problem I have with many on this board is this hatred of Melinda Wilson, and this attempt to canonize Marylin. I have nothing against Marilyn Wilson, but their marriage ended many years ago, and both have gone on with their lives. I think it's also good that they still have a relationship, and isn't strange that Melinda hasn't put a stop to that, when if you believe all that is said about her she would. I'm not trying to be an apologist for Melinda, I don't know her, I can only go from what I see, and that is a healthier, both emotionally and physically, Brian. He has tried and I think in most cases tamed his demons, he tours now, he finished Smile, and he is about to release something that could be very special. Not everything has been great there has been some gaffs, but if you look at Brian's life since he has been with Melinda, and stop listening to unsubstantiated rumors, you see someone who is in a better place than he ever has been. I just find it hard to assign people I don't know with labels, Marylin is good, Melinda is evil. Life is to complicated for that, and the truth usually lies in between.

I've never met any of The Beach Boys, but in 1991 I did meet Van Dyke Parks. He was playing the old Lone Star Roadhouse on W. 42nd Street in NYC I think he was touring Tokyo Rose at the time. A friend called me and told he was at the show already and if I came down I could get tickets for the late show. So my wife and I headed down, we were just married at the time, and brought our thank you cards because we planned to give another friend who was at the show his, and save the postage. When we got there he was still playing his first set, so we bought tickets for the second show, but the ticket seller said we could go in for the remainder of the first set if we wanted. We went in found our friends and sat down at a table. When the set was over, a slightly inebriated Van Dyke Parks ambled over to our table with some friends of his and sat down with us. I was shocked and couldn't say anything for a few minutes, but finally we started talking, I don't remember what we spoke about anymore, except that we told him we were newly weds. Right before he went back on stage we asked, and this is something I never do, if he would autograph one of our wedding thank you cards. He did, and said something really nice, he was just a very sweet man. I've misplaced the autograph, but it's somewhere in the house I'll post it when I find it.
