anyone have any info on this record i bought recently? on back: tracklisting "This album is almost 100% Brian with help from Carl. Recorded in early 1977 this ablum (a typo on the back cover) features many previously unreleased tunes including: 'Life is For the Living', 'Deep Purple', 'Everybody Want's to Live', 'Lines', 'Baseball', and 'Still I Dream of it'. As in the past, many tunes scheduled for this L.P. were slated for other albums, some released, others never seeing the light of day. A version of 'Shortenin Bread' appeared on the Light Album. 'Help is on the Way' was originally picked for The New Album and Landlocked. The remaining songs on this album are familiar to the collector. This album was Long overdue"

question; i just commented in another thread about Mike's joke about John Stamos' mother. his first comment was something like this, "this is a song we wrote back in 1963. now John (Stamos) is saying that he was born in 1963, and i can verify that because me and his mother used to spend a lot of nights together back then."
does anyone remember what the second one was? all i remember was that it was a pretty shocking/hilarious comment.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What Is The Meanest Thing You've Heard Mike Love Say During A Concert?

I was talking to my daughter's (15) boyfriend's parents the other night. I found out that his dad Louis was also at the same concert I was at back in 1992. It was at the Circle Star Theater (now gone), in San Carlos (south of San Francisco). I had gotten into the Beach Boys after I graduated in 1989 from high school. Had read Brians' new autobiography and the Beach Boys music was my new BEST FRIEND. This was my first BB concert, I was 21 at the time. Anyway, I had mentioned how during the concert Carl was talking to us during a break in the setlist and all of a sudden Mike tells him to shutup. Mike says, "Don't you see that person holding up that bedsheet it says, "409". So I'm thinking what the heck, that wasnt cool of Mike to interrupt Carl by telling him to shutup. Louis, (daughter's, boyfriend's dad) thought it was funny cause he all of a sudden remembered something like that too from the concert. Also, after the concert was over we went out the side door and there was Bruce and the rest of the original Beach Boys heading over to a limo. I asked Bruce, " Where's Brian" He responded, " God Only Knows". It was a great answer and yet at the same time I was kinda pissed a such a lame response. Oh, well. Ive been too four or five BB concerts and never heard after that Mike being rude. -Beekeeper this isn't really a "mean" comment as much as it is a joke, but at the Coney Island show this past Thursday, when introducing Be True to Your School Mike said, "this is a song we wrote back in 1963. now John (Stamos) is saying that he was born in 1963, and i can verify that because me and his mother used to spend a lot of nights together back then." later in this intro he made another comment, but can't remember what it was exactly - it shocked me and my brother though!

was at this show, figured there hasn't been a recent setlist uploaded online in a while so i marked down the songs/got a setlist from the stage after the show. i gotta say, i was really impressed with the band tonight (especially uncle Jesse, who showed that if Dennis Wilson [with his "what a wonderful pleasure to play for people like you" comment from the famous video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSIvTq6tzUI&feature=related) and Elvis Presley [see everything Stamos does with his guitar] were to have a hunky love child whose hope was to mimic their every move, he/she would know how to "rock" a crowd ). anyhow, here's how i explained it to my dad; seeing Brian for the first time was an emotional experience (for obvious reasons) while Mike's show was a more fun and playful experience (be it Mike's "your mother" jokes to John Stamos or the classic Beach Boy sway during Fun Fun Fun; see this video at around the 6:10 mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvyzK6oVe3M) Surfin' (original recording intro) Catch a Wave Hawaii Little Honda Do It Again Surf City Surfin' Safari Surfer Girl Getcha Back Don't Worry Baby Little Deuce Coupe 409 Shut Down I Get Around Be True to Your School I'm So Young Why Do Fools Fall in Love When I Grow Up (to Be a Man) Darlin' Forever (John Stamos on Vocals) God Only Knows Good Vibrations Then I Kissed Her California Girls Sloop John B Wouldn't It Be Nice Help Me Rhonda Rock & Roll Music Barbara Ann Surfin' USA Encore: Kokomo Summertime Blues Fun Fun Fun

Bob Dylan: "Never feed raisins to a dog. Now let's welcome a friend of mine, Mr. Jim/Roger McGuinn, the man who got rich off of my songs in the 60s!" McGuinn enters, and the band, plus Bob and McGuinn, launch into…
9] Ding Dang (extended version with Bob Dylan and McGuinn)
Ding Dang fades out, Bob and McGuinn saunter offstage, and Brian walks back up to the front of the stage.
Rollin' Up to Heaven style?

I just saw Mike and Bruce a few days ago in Dublin. Was an amazing sold out show with the crowd dancing for most the the show. It's was also Bruce's birthday that night and he sang a beautiful version on Disney Girls, which was my girlfriends favourite song of the night. Some girl sang Sail on, think it was Mike's granddaughter, it was awesome. Bringing all the young kids on stage for Babara Ann was amazing, really shows how The Beach Boys are loved by all generations. Young girls and boys in Beach Boys hoodies is the coolest thing ever. Anyway great show, not as good as Brian last year, but still amazing. Well done Mike and Bruce. Here's a vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWgxw2HCt0cBTW, The hot chick at the side of stage Mike was dancing with, is that his wife? wow. Go Mike this review just made me so excited. i'll be going to the free show in coney island in two weeks!

Hi Scott, Sorry it took me so long to reply, I couldn't get into this site for a few weeks for some reason. Thanks so much for asking for requests! I know you guys haven't played it often lately, but I'd love to hear "Warmth of the Sun." Otherwise, "God Only Knows" is always a favorite. My dream song request would be for Mike to sing "All I Wanna Do" from Sunflower. His lead vocals are just fantastic on that one. It's really a crime that the Beach Boys have never ever played that one live (at least according to Eric's Setlist Archive). Here's your chance to make it right Thanks again Scott, see you in Bloomington in August! Chris wow, when i saw scott's "is there anything in particular you'd want to hear" i instantly thought of "all i wanna do" would be amazing, but highly unlikely. nice choice chris! here's to hoping you'll get it!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / How big were the Beach Boys in their prime?

being that i'm only 20, i've missed out on a whole lot of Beach Boy history. though many questions of experience do come to mind, one has been eating at me the most in the past few weeks. how popular/big were the Beach Boys at the high point(s) of their career? is there any artist/band/celebrity today that seems to be a good example of how popular they were? also, though this is still one of my first few posts, i am constantly reading the different threads and comments made by all of you. i really appreciate all that i've learned, thus far, from everyone on here!
