1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian Wilson signed Dan Mackin Paintings on: February 21, 2011, 10:54:03 AM
Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while but I am glad to be back.  Anyway just something I thought would be of interest - I was on vacation in Naples, Florida first week of February and my husband and I walk in to this art gallery - I forget the name of it - it had great Elvis photos, Beatles and one Beach Boy (It was the one when Mike, Carl, Bruce, Dennis and BW and Al are kind of leaning over a fence circa 1967).  So I ask the dealer if there are any other photos of the BB and he says no but would I like to see these paintings that BW has signed and named by Dan Mackin.  So right there in front of me are 3 separate signed paintings - each one named after a song.  There was Surfer Girl, God Only Knows and Wouldn't it be Nice.

Of course I was so thrilled to see a BW signature and dedication in the flesh that I had a delusional moment and I asked how much for the Surfer Girl painting.  The dealer says let me call the owner; walks to the back.  He returns with a price of $1250 (marked down from $2500!) because the frame was slightly damaged.  I said I needed to think about it and went to dinner with my husband.  I eventually came to my senses and went back to our hotel and looked up the artist on the internet.  I see that he has paintings that are the exactly the same (sans signature of BW) for $50-$100)!  Of course having a sig of BW would be totally awesome - maybe in another life!

Sorry for the ignorance but what does SOT stand for?
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys Rep Sues Katy Perry Over California Gurls on: August 05, 2010, 02:55:29 AM

Hi everyone - I haven't posted in a long time but I am here alot - anyway see this little tidbit from today's news - Other than making any snarky comments about the "sue" factor and the Beach Boys - I remember thinking when this song came out that it was awfully close to plaguerism - Don't mess with my BW!

This is a little out there but yesterday I broke my sliding glass door.  The glass is still in the frame but all night it made the sound of rain with all the little shatters rippling throughout the glass.  It actually looks like a piece of art right now.  I thought about the time Dennis put his hand through the glass and severed tendons in it (I am happy I didn't copy that part) and how much pain that comes from.   The heart of the beach boys is the humanity they so eloquently translate in their music.  DW made his mark and he is missed.

Hi Mr. Gaines,

I read your book recently and the monetary transactions in the Beach Boy world reminded me of how long lasting the effect of greed can be.  Also the lack of trust in the right people who really had their best interests at heart.

I went to see him in Englewood on 10/27 and he was exactly as you say; it is only the 3rd time I have seen him but it was the best by far!  Of all the youtube clips I've seen after 1964 this is who Brian was meant to perform with!
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Al Jardine at Union Square Barnes and Nobles on: October 18, 2009, 12:04:02 PM
In the New york post 10/17/09 Page Six there's a blurb about Paul Shaffer's book signing (David Letterman's band leader) and appently Al Jardine was in the audience - Paul persuaded him to sing a rendition of Help Me Rhonda and the whole audience joined in!  Wish I was there! Smiley
