Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So, if you could work with Brian...

My first thoughts are along with Aegir and Surfer Joe - ask him what he wants to do and just for him to feel healthy, happy and loved. I think he probably needs that guiding hand to give some structure and meaning to his life, a reason to get up in the morning so to speak. I’d like to see him being kept stimulated and interested, but not pressured or pushed. I think I probably still see him touring, but on a much smaller scale. I think Brian’s heart really lies in the studio, so I think that’s probably where he’s happiest. He has nothing to prove, he earned his stripes a long time ago, he shouldn’t worry about trying to win new fans or critical acclaim. The people who love and admire him and his work will continue to do so. If anyone deserves some peace of mind and happiness in their later years, it's Brian

Some people here seem to be forgetting, or not knowing, that cocaine can literally put a hole in your nose. I believe the term is "deviated(sp?) septum". How much does your nose play a part in singing?
Ones nose plays a big part in shaping the voice; besides, there is always the drip. Regardless, columbian marching powder will foda everything up in a person especially if you have unlimited money and time, i.e. Brian. I wonder how Mike Love would sound with a perforated septum?

Oh my god, thank you so much for posting this - it is a fantastic interview, I've just watched the whole thing with a smile on my face. The interviewer has a really easy, warm engaging way about him and I'm sure this is why Brian is responding so well to him. It was David Leaf that said that Brian is so sensitive that negative vibes for him are magnified a thousand times (or something like that). It is a sign that he is so comfortable that he says to the interviewer, that's enough of that, let's talk about something different, he probably thinks this in most interviews but doesn't feel comfortable enough to say it. I find Brian absolutely adorable!

The BRIAN WILSON ON TOUR DVD was edited to show Brian at his most enthusiastic; it would not be representative of his overall behavior/attitude during that time period.
It's been pointed out a number of times, but Brian won't really go along with something he is dead-set against. I'm sure there are still aspects of touring he enjoys, but ultimately he is just doing his job, a job he knows will keep him active. Like for any of us, a job can become a drudgery, but it's something we stick with because it keeps us busy and keeps money coming in. In Brian's case, the money is not so much an issue, but keeping busy is. Unlike most other performers (who will fib about how life on the road is always fantastic), Brian has been vocal about what a drag it can be. That doesn't mean he is being forced against his will to perform. When you go to see him in concert, he's doing his job for you; sometimes, nothing more. I've seen him "do his job" as a solo artist seven times now and thought he put forth a decent effort each time. Your job as an audience member is to enjoy the performance as much as you can.
Yeah, that makes sense and I definitely hope you're right and that is the case. I saw him last year and I'm going to see him again in a month's time and I know I'll love it and have a great time, I'm really looking forward to it! I just like to know that he's happy and ok (as happy and ok as he can be)!

I recall an interview with Melinda...audio or print I can't recall....where she discussed her advice/input to Brian on his career. It was something to the effect of ; "Brian, if your going to have a career, you can't do a studio album once every 10 years and then retreat. You have to get out there and promote and do interviews and tour." Sounded like a wife givng her husband some strong wifely advice. I suspect Brian is the kind of guy who needs a firm hand. Now, the question is, does Brian need to tour quite as much as he does? That's my dilemma - I do believe Brian wants/needs someone to guide and organise him and his life to an extent, but as you say, it's whether he's doing all the touring to keep other people happy or because it's what he really wants to. When I saw the Brian Wilson on Tour DVD with footage from around 2000, it struck me how much fun he seemed to be having and how engaged he was - he was even dancing! He doesn't seem to be having so much fun now, I know he's older, but still... I just hope he feels ok about touring.

what is this Spotify you speak of?
It’s a music streaming site, you download the Spotify application to your PC and use from there. It’s free, legal and really easy to use, music is instant and has great sound quality with loads of music to choose from on there. Unfortunately I think it’s only available in Europe at the moment.

I do worry that Brian is pressured into touring and performing when perhaps he'd just prefer to be in the studio making music, but who knows, I guess you can never really know what goes on behind the scenes. Saying that, I am still going to see him on 3rd Sept, can't wait, hypocrite that I am!

Lol aww no way! How weird, but I can totally see why any girl loves that clip Its so funny also, when they do the close up of Denny, he starts kinda laughing when Brian does his thing & really gets into it lol. So funny & cute! I love it on The Lost Concert when they do Long Tall Texan. On Mikes "ooh ah ooh ah is that your horse" bit, you see Brian look at Carl and visibly wince as if he think Mike's going a bit over the top, cracks me up, haha

Oh me too! His smile just melts me. I think his shyness is so cute! One my absolutle favorite clips of Brian is when he's singing "Papa Oom Mow Mow", I am obsessed with that clip lol, he's just so darn adorable! There needs to be a drooling icon, lol. That's so weird - that's my absolute favourite Brian moment too!! Love seeing him really cut loose and go for it. He's sooo sweet, shy, tall, handsome......aaaahhhh, yeah, where is that drooling icon??? I still think he's handsome as an older man. This has turned from a dream thread to a naughty thoughts about Brian thread hahahah

Two dreams I had once:
(1) I was at the fire sessions and playing second chair kazoo. Brian was a big flirt I remember that!
(2) I was nervous around the time leading up to the first BW show I ever went to and I had a dream they decided to cancel the show and instead play a Landy era workout video. It was as awful as it sounds!!
OMG lol @ the second one!! Thats a nightmare, lol! Hmm I wonder if theres anything to these dreams about Bri being a flirt I never got to find out in mine He does love a pretty lady, he says so on an interview from the 70s (Beach Boys - Portrait of Legend on YouTube), "I can't help it, I'm in love with girls"! Hi Marie:) Do you have a link for that, I never seen it before & just tried searching for it on youtube but couldnt find it. Hey LittleSurferGirl. Here are the links - enjoy! (It's on part 2 that he confesses his love for pretty girls! ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7Mo50Gc0dEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDB2n2p9iPghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPYdtjvqzaw

I actually paid to do a TM course when I was 19, this was 16 years ago and it cost me around £100. The only discernible difference I can see between TM and any other form of meditation (that you can do for free), is that you are given your own personal mantra. I remember being asked to take an orange, this was some kind of symbolic offering, to what or whom, I don't remember!? I'm not saying the whole thing is valueless, but I don't see what all the mystique (and money) is about, it's just the repetition of a mantra, which surely we can all do for free!?

I'm new here and this is my first post, so please be kind! I thought I'd dive straight in with an embarrassing confession! I recently dreamt that I was on holiday in a hot country somewhere, I saw Brian sitting outside on the steps of restaurant, playing guitar. He looked kind of Pet Sounds era (unbelievably cute!), I asked him if he'd come for a walk with me, he said yes. Romance was in the air , I was so pleased! I won't bore you with all the details, but I left him to go and get ready and then everything went wrong and I got really delayed and I knew I'd kept him waiting too long and he wouldn't be there anymore. I woke up feeling really upset!! It all started off so well!! "Been way too long! Can't Wait Too Long, Baby...." By any chance was that tune playing in the background? Hey you may have something there, that is one of my favourite tunes, I love Brian's spoken bit "miss you so hard". I guess he made it clear that that he couldn't wait too long! It's all starting to make sense!! This is getting a little racy. I approve! Heehee, that actually sounded a bit saucier than I meant it to!! Just wish my dream had been a little more racy – but alas, twas not to be. Still I dream of it, maybe next time...
