No one is ever justified in demanding another concert-goer to stay seated. It's a Rock concert not an opera. I'm sure the band would appreciate it if people would stand for the majority of the show as well. It's one thing to sit the whole time if you have some kind of back issue or whatever--but to demand that other people sit down just because you can't or won't stand up is beyond rude.
Anyway, just my thought. And I gotta reiterate that the people sitting the whole time really, really drained a lot of energy out of the show. Seriously, if you're not standing for Sloop John B then you need your head examined.

Just got back from the show. Setlist was pretty much exactly the same as last night except they dropped California Dreamin' and added This whole world. Dammit! "This Whole World" was one of the songs I was really looking forward to hearing live but of course I wound up going to last night's show. Oh, well... Brian did a great job singing it tonight. I've heard him sound pretty bad on it before but this time he really did a very good job. The only song he was bad on was Sail on Sailor. Other than that he sounded better than I've ever heard him live and he was very prominent on the backgrounds of several songs.

Just got back from the show. Setlist was pretty much exactly the same as last night except they dropped California Dreamin' and added This whole world. Everyone sounded great. Brian sang very sweetly and Bruce sounded amazing on Disney Girls. He did this really cool falsetto thing at the end that sounded really cool. I couldn't believe how good he sounded hitting those high notes. The band was smokin, everyone was great. The audience were enjoying their comfortable seats a little too much for my liking but it was an enjoyable show nonetheless.

I will be at this one. Can't provide updates as they happen since I don't have a fancy phone but I'll certainly post a review afterward. I'll be attending this concert alone unfortunately since no one I know shares my fondness of the Boys so if there's any board members attending who want to buy me a beer I'll be the blond haired kid in a vintage 1980 Beach Boys baseball t sitting in Row C Aisle 7 on Main Floor 1L. I hope they do a new album cut. Isn't it time would make my night.

I predict a hit. It's not like a zillion people have to buy it for them to have a hit. Madonna had the number one album in the country last month and hardly anyone actually bought a copy--she just gave it away with concert tickets. I'm not saying it's going to get so huge that it gets remixed for the club or something but I do imagine there's enough Beach Boys nerds and old nostalgic people to get a hit outta this tune.

"Damn the Beach Boys still sound f'n good. How do these guys still sound 20 at 100? Amazing."
- My 30 yr. old Brother who is a very casual listener.
Us hardcore fans might find a lot to get picky about in the track but I think the general public is really gonna dig this. This song is meant to reintroduce the public to the boys and I think it does an amazing job. Outside of this board no one knows or cares who Joe Thomas or any of those other clowns are. I think we'd do best to just kick back and enjoy this reunion.

So Tupac performed at Coachella Music Festival recently despite the notable handicap of being dead. This was accomplished by state-of-the-art hologram technology. So, hypothetically what would you guys think if they did this with D&C for the reunion tour. Cool? Stupid? Creepy?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why would anyone be obsessed/so very much into The Beach Boys?

Positive, sincere music with intricate harmonies and instrumentation written by a troubled genius who was able time and again to overcome adversity. It's such a compelling and uplifting story. Not to mention the Beach Boys are interesting historically as well. They are a symbol of everything American--not just the music but also the personalities within the band and the way those personalities interacted with one another. I mean, someone could write a whole book on that aspect of the band.
More people should be obsessed with The Beach Boys. The fact that a lot of people don't understand the appeal is evidence of the ignorance and moral decay of the society we live in.

Beautiful song. The best parts are when Carl starts singing and that Brian-sounding falsetto note toward the end which I heard was not actually Brian. But yeah, they should play this during the Celebration tour.

Why did that ceremony end with a performance by a Blues Brothers tribute band? That doesn't make any damn sense.
Also, David Marks has it pretty sweet. Think about it. He joins the band, sticks around long enough to be remembered, leaves, and now forty years later he gets all sorts of accolades for his five seconds in the group.

I'm skeptical towards a new album. I'd love one more *great* BB album, but I have a feeling this is going to include a smattering of covers and newly recorded versions of unreleased songs. I'd like an album built from the ground up of all new material, stuff that's really designed to stand together, rather than just some adult-contempo versions of songs that will never be better than the originals. The BB should have really worked with a hip producer. Look what Jack White did for Loretta Lynn. There are so many bands out there right now that would probably love to work with Brian. An all new album produced by Panda Bear? That would really have a chance to stand up with the better BB material, to be a buzzed about album. But I'm expecting really a tasteful yet mediocre reunion album that won't make up for the last 20-30 years of the bands career
Do you really think Brian, or any of the Beach Boys for that matter, would be comfortable having Jack White or Panda Bear in the studio producing their album? They'd be scared to death. I seem to recall something akin to this being tried before with the guy from The High Llamas. Brian's response after leaving the studio was something to the effect of..."I don't need some young guy telling me how to do things I'd already done 30 years ago." What the Beach Boys need is a professional producer with a solid reputation or at least someone who can take their sound to interesting places while still remaining faithful and appropriate. Rick Rubin, Dave Friddman, maybe even Brian Eno. One thought that would be interesting, although a long shot, would be Beck. He's been producing albums for awhile now and I know from listening to interviews that he is a pretty huge Beach Boys fan. He could bring a really interesting perspective to the album but be restrained enough to keep it acceptable. Acceptable yet forward thinking.
