This involves releasing the album in 1980, due to a couple of covers having not been recorded with the other songs.

The Beatles only mistakes with albums were releasing songs as singles, which should have been on albums.  Revolver should have had Rain, Pepper, the obvious ones, Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane.  the White Album, as broad as it was, overlooked some good Harrison tunes and Let it Be certainly was Beach Boys like in that some excellent tunes were left off in favor of some questionable tunes.

My thoughts on WIBNTLA:

At first listen, I am in awe.  We hear the title first.  Dennis' voice is picture perfect.  He starts out softly, then builds to an initial climax with rhetorical questions and heartfelt replies.  Now, back to soft lines, dreamy, silky smooth lines with more responses to his questions.  The guitar kicks in followed by his questions and replies.  Flute, percussion and vocal intertwine.  The flute is a butterfly, fluttering about his vision of the future, and it's a bright future for him at this moment in time.

I don't see this as a grower.  It's power is demonstrated in the first seven words.  This song hits hard on first listen, a rare achievement for a relatively slow song.  In no way did the hype downplay the song.  It's even better than I'd expected though my expectations were tempered a bit.  I was hoping for something along the lines of Forever, and that's exactly what we got.  It is its own song but achieves the same granduer of Forever.  We now have Dennis' third masterpiece.  Forever, River Song and Wouldn't it Be Nice to Live Again present the pinnacles of Dennis Wilson's career.  Of course Only With You, All Alone, Slip on Through, Celebrate the News and Sound of Free come close as well.

The Surf's Up album would have been substantially improved with the inclusion of Dennis' songs, especially if his Rumbo work was included as well.  I doubt sales would have been significantly greater but as with almost every Beach Boys release, opportunities were missed, opportunities that were lost on the world for decades.

Thanks to those who have shared WIBNTLA with select people, helping to get it an official release before landing in the hands of bootleggers.  It's a sacred song, full of feeling, yet cerebral.  We don't have many opportunities to experience the sacred at first listen.  Thanks, Dennis.  I only wish it had come out over four decades ago.

He Come Down is beyond horrible.  It makes me claw my eyes out.  The rest of this list will be typed blindly.

Dennis' love songs are often sappy, lifeless mush, with some exceptions

Brian Wilson is a clunky album.  The versions that appear on IJWMFTT are vastly superior

Never Learn Not to Love is one of Dennis' finest moments, despite Chuck Manson

Daybreak Over the Ocean should have opened TWGMTR

Lyrics matter as much as the music--thus Love You is half a heaping pile of elephant dung...the other half is quite good

Aside from the toothpaste and soap line, Don't Go Near the water is excellent

Time to Get Alone just begs for the Hawthorne outro

Pet Sounds in stereo is leaps and bounds above mono

Almost every BB tune is superior in stereo (real stereo)

Al is a solid songwriter who should have more represetation on MiC

Imagination is Brian's best solo album

Here Comes the Night disco single is fantastic.  Why wasn't this on LA?

I love Bill Maher.  Who cares about a joke he made?  I'd say he's more of a political activist than he is a comedian.  At least he's got the balls to speak his mind...and think about what he says before he says it. 

In the US, we're constantly bombarded with religious nonsense.  It's fantastic to see a comedian/activist stand up for science and rationality.  True, his "Religulous" documentary wasn't a work of art but boy was it ever entertaining!  Poking fun at ridiculous beliefs generally is but he avoided tangling with the mainstream, half-hearted religious folks.  Carlin was self described atheist.  Maher claims to be agnostic though he sounds like an atheist to me.  No apologies from me for being a thinking liberal.

The Boys are old and they did put out an awful lot of questionable material since the mid 70's.  Fortunately, they took a turn for the better with TWGMTR.

Vinyl can reproduce very high frequencies on the order of about 50,000 hz.  Donny is talking about the sibilant sounds creating distortion when put down on vinyl so they are compressed.  I don't profess to know all that much about the process but the link provides some info.
