Definitely a very Beach Boys-sounding song and I'm sure the band would have done a great job with it.
It's fascinating to me that the song was "offered" to the band, considering to that point they were still mainly writing and recording their own material, save for the occasional cover from the '50s or '60s. Are there other known instances of artists offering the Boys songs and getting turned down?

Brian's official social media accounts commemorated the anniversary of the release of "Beach Boys '85" yesterday and made reference to a few unreleased Brian compositions from those sessions, including one called "Down by the Pier." Do we know anything about this song? Is it available to listen to anywhere?

While I feel this whole AI phenomenon will end up raising some MAJOR ethical questions, I'd be lying if I said it isn't surreal to hear a "finished" version of SMiLE with totally convincing 1966-style vocals. Amazing job!
I anxiously await your take on "Song for Children" and "On A Holiday" as I'd LOVE to hear what the complete BWPS would sound like done in this style.

Just had a listen - pretty good but there are enough differences that it's sometimes jarring. The lead on Don't Talk is quite nice - many of the songs lend themselves well to Zooey's range.
Edit: I liked Brian's contributions to Do it Again - he adds a bit of zest even
Agreed on all counts. "Deirdre," "Don't Talk," "Good to My Baby" and the title track are all highlights in my opinion. Not a huge fan of what was done with "This Whole World," however, especially inexplicably removing the "When girls get mad" section.

With all due respect, I'm curious what prompted this question? The only truly new music Brian has put out in the past five years is the newly written "Right Where I Belong," a song that seems to have been generally well received by fans, while the rest of the documentary soundtrack is re-recordings of old songs and previously unreleased demos. Otherwise, it's not as though Brian has been exactly churning out music for the past decade or so.

Watched it with my wife last night and loved every minute of it. I have to say, there weren't as many "uncomfortable" moments as the advance reviews made it seem there would be. Certainly, Brian learning of Jack Reilly's death years after the fact was a raw, poignant scene where you really feel for Brian.
Once again, Brian mentions wanting to record an album of rock & roll covers which he's been saying for what, 15 years? But in this film we actually get to see him in the studio working on a cover of "Honeycomb." I wonder how many more (if any) of these covers he's done in recent years that could constitute that long discussed record.

This is a terrible thought, and I hate myself for even entertaining the idea, but it almost sounds like the onset of dementia. I hope I’m completely wrong; it’s just that some of the symptoms described sound familiar to those of us who’ve had to say a long goodbye to a loved one.
I'll admit that I had that thought too. "Saying things I don't mean." But we shouldn't speculate. I'm glad Brian is doing what he needs to do to take care of himself, and I hope he recovers soon. I know it's nothing but speculation at this point but I took the "saying things I don't mean" to mean the pain has caused him to become irritable to the point that he's snapping at those around him. I'm hoping that's the case vs. the alternative.
