1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stamos accused… on: July 31, 2014, 10:39:50 AM
Just a note...yes WE ALL, that means SS boarders and US the guys who play the music we all love, are ALL drama contenders... But I didn't post my stuff here. Someone else did...and yes if ya don't want it to be seen don't write it. So Nicko1234 no fair pointing the finger Wink...there are always three pointing back at you...I love reading the board here and yeah some of it gets blown over board...just like real life...And I only meant a handful of posters who can't wait to stir things up...sh*t there are some very cool people here, and we all take turns in that handful of culprits... me included! hahahaha so lets just all get along... Love the passion...and Stamos is my friend and all those who don't like him are entitled to that view...But There's not many people I don't like who I don't know on a personal level...just saying...anyway I do love coming here for good or bad...it's like a continuous soap opera..What will happen tomorrow when Joan says to John....

I hear they might even play Kokomo in it's entirety!

Curious to see Cowsill's take on Heroes and Villains, that around?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmkljiQy2Ho

That was painful.
Well I have to agree Rocky. I never heard me do it. One reason it sounds weird is I'm singin it like it's a fkn country song. OY!!! hahahah I have a bad habit of not rounding my vowels. I notice it when I heard  me singing Cotton fields for the  first time. sung as  Cat in fields... Im noticing the same problem on this little gem. We rarely do heros and villians. And the arrangement is from a live version that The Beach Boys did with AL singing lead and Ricky is on drums so it was 1070's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQGzRNYcKuY   Yes  ROCKY  I know Al sounds great on it!!!!  And I'm choppin the hell out of the words. "Calm down Cowsii" OY!

Do you know if there is a recording of the Un plugged Grammy museum show that we did? That was the night they unveiled the Beach Boys exhibit.

But for the masses who missed it maybe it'll be great to them. There's nothing to compare it with. I just never listen to anything really. Except old recordings of all my favorite singersBeach Boys included. I can't critique the product Joe Thomas has put out. And anything I've said here is by no way a critique of said product. Just every "Live" album I put on that isn't a bootleg has been messed with. My first live Eagles album, even tho craftily done to make you think it's live, was TOTALLY re recorded and then later confirmed by a few close to the project. And plus I can't stand to hear how I played something and go "oh sh*t! I slowed down there...oh I sped up there...oh man I wish I could do that one again..." hahahaha those who play will know what I mean...hahahaha Peace to all and long live the music of our minds heart and soul

Nope! I don't have the cd or the dvd. Without even listening, the live show for me was and is better left live.  That's how I want to remember it. It was THE best time in my touring life. I'd rather listen to an audience recording of the show. The rawness is captivating. I've heard some youtube stuff that I liked. Most, to All, with a few exceptions, live recordings get taken into the studio and everything but the drums gets re recorded. There is not one live Eagles Album. Even my own live Cowsills in concert was "sweetened" at united (ocean way) back in the day. My dad had already kicked my brother Bill out of the band for smoking pot and hanging out with guys like Waddy and Brian. So you hear my brother Bob introduce himself like he's Bill. Just BS. We weren't able to re sing much back then.  But at least it was organic and natural. OH and they didn't have auto tune either. hahahahahahaha don't ya hate that sh*t! I mean it has a place but only a dash could be fine here and there but the over use is equivalent to making a cake with just frosting or making a whole wooden table out of wood filler... just saying. But I have not heard the live album nor viewed the dvd and probably may not... man I would love to hear all the raw recordings and see the raw footage. And i wish they had recorded ALL the shows. It got better and better as it progressed...anyway. That's my story and I'm stickin to it. From the players in the Bar to big shots everywhere...enjoy the music..ALL KINDS!!!!!

OH! and thank you for the nice compliment at the end.  Has anyone here ever seen the norther lights?

I didn't convince Mike to do it. I was asked to sing it seeing how no one else was up to the task. Yeah it's fun to sing. So is Crying by Roy Orbison. So is I'll cry instead. I was as surprised as the rest of you here when Wild Honey was put out there. Like I've said before. I'm just the drummer. I don't think I'm Carl. OUCH on the papa dig. What'd i do to you...Enjoy the music, people.

Thanks for "Wild honey"! I'm not a fan of Cowsill's singing and this certainly won't change that. But it's nice to see them doing that song. Totten's solo is nice although I kinda wished Bruce would play his cool organ part from the record.

I'm not a fan of my voice either but that was the first time we ever did it. I know. No excuse. The voice is what it is. Christian would sound good on it if he had the range. We'd have to lower way too far... I am generally a back ground singer. I dred singing Darlin, especially after sitting next to Darian when he does it.  sh*t! I sound more like Kermit the frog... oh well I like singing. But I don't want to hear me either. so for those who agree I'm sorry for your misery...

Good that you don't take it personally (as it wasn't meant as something against you and your work). I just think your singing (based on the video!) wasn't very fitting for the song (I tried singing it myself with my old band in the same key and I still can't stand listening to myself on that. Carl had it down great for the studio recording but the live versions from '67 show him struggling as well). I don't know if Christian Love would fit since I only know his voice as very smooth and cool one and not rough and rocking but who knows.
I absolutely love your drumming and think your work for the Beach Boys tour was one of the instrumental highpoints.
Rocker..I have thick skin. In this business? hahahaha if you don't you'll go crying to mama "I'm tellin you as sure as I am standin here...hahahaha dude i totally get it and take no offense... see ya'll out there and thanks to everyone who loves the beach boys music. I am just a fan like most of us here. BUT ... with the better seat. And that 50th tour was the best time of my career... Bar none. And thanks to those who said nice things about me. my wife really likes that. hahahahaha it's just music gang and we all love it!!!!! Keep on Rockin in the free world

12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love's Solo tours in 1981 on: January 30, 2010, 09:02:21 PM
Randell and I both were doing The M&D tours. Actually Jeff brought us in. I didn't do as many as Randell. But I do recall recording that THEME song at a studio near the love foundation in Santa Barbara. I played with M&D For The spring break gigs in Florida and then again on south padre island in Texas. Farmer was also recruited for some of those shows(he was with Jan and dean prior to these gigs). I think the reason i was there was to fill in for Kowalski (who also played with the endless summer beach band) because there were conflicting BB shows. It was easier for Mike and Jeff to get in and out in time to do the BB. There was also Bo foxx before me and after me Paul Bershero(sorry for the spelling Paul). This is how I met Dean and he was gonna go back out as Jan and Dean again. (The Mike and Dean gigs were a wake up call for Jan to stop doing drugs). It worked. So I played with Jan and dean along with Randell, Farmer, Gary griffin and then a very young Phil Bardowell joined a couple of years later. I quit in 86 or 87 and called Dave Logaman who still sits the throne with that camp. Oh this was a fun thread.

Tell us more!!!

...and who's the chick with the drumsticks? Grin
Unfortunately it's me with ("suggested staightened hair") and a wax museum make up job...enjoy. No one is enjoying (or not) this picture more than the subjects in it...oh dear. I am playing my favorite music and putiing my kids through school doing it. Wouldn't you?...lol
