Just looking through the list of recipients and they are all individuals. Can the group even get this?

Excellent question.  The answer is yes, but the medals would be awarded to each individual member.  Recent example would be Bill & Melinda Gates for their work with the Gates Foundation.  Eight members of the Apollo 13 Mission Operations Team were recipients in 1970.
