Michel Colombier's (who arranged Tears In The Morning)  The Big Team. has some very obvious Good Vibrations elements

Pete Townshend said this song (Goin' Fishin') was influenced by Smiley Smile

There's a Fleetwood Mac documentary on the making of Tusk with a segment showing Christine Mcvie hanging out on a boat that I assume is the Harmony. Theres a part where you here what sounds like Dennis' voice in the background calling to someone named Willy

Q: You've mentioned that Brian was one of your biggest inspirations. Is that mainly in terms of songwriting, production . . .?

A: Not really in terms of production much, thought I like what he did with the Beach Boys stuff. I admire him most as a melodic writer, an arranger, and a vocal orchestrator. When people think of Brian they think of "Little Deuce Coupe" and "I Get Around" which are great songs, but there's also "Wind Chimes" [a bizarre tune on the largely psychedelic Smiley Smile] and all those other obscure but beautiful pieces of work. "Wind Chimes" is a classic. No one has done anything like it since. Even a lot of his later work stands up real well. Beach Boys Love You had great songs on it, great tunes with great arrangements, but it just sailed over the heads of everyone and didn't sell as a result.

I honestly am more excited about the idea of a  finished 71/72 SMiLE than a finished 67 SMiLE. The sound on Sunflower and Surf's Up is so amazing, some of my favorite production of all time. The 71 Surf's Up is so lush

I wouldn't get your hopes up.
i was speaking purely in terms of FANtasy

i think i like it. it almost sounds more like something Rick Henn would write. i'm actually surprised how twisty-turny the melody and chord progression is, especially for a single. and i hear a bit of Midnight Cowboy in there
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Bambu all that great?? on: January 05, 2012, 07:31:47 AM
speaking of Tug Of Love (my favorite song on the whole thing), whats the deal with that weird, gurgly, white soul vocal on the part where Dennis is chanting "feel the pull, feel the pull" and it comes in with "I feel the pull". I accept it b/c I love that song so much, but its so weird and out of place, like someone was joking around
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Were Any Christine McVie Songs Written About Dennis? on: January 03, 2012, 07:21:45 PM
Sort of relevant. Lindsey Buckingham wrote DW Suite as a tribute to Dennis on his Go Insane album
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: How do we feel about \ on: December 27, 2011, 04:56:57 AM
I love this song. Like a lot of Dennis's songs it sounds like an aural equivalent of sex. Especially the build at the end (closer, closer...) followed by the chant (ecstatic, post-coital afterglow).
I remember reading somewhere that it was a gift from Manson to help heal the band who were having problems at the time (maybe Manson said this) and Manson said Dennis could do whatever he wanted with it except change the words

I know its probably not the same house, but this looks so much like the pictures of Brian playing his piano in the house on Laurel Way. Even has the same sort of shutters in the background

10CC wrote songs that were like 10 incredible pop songs in 1. Granted they also had 4 really good writers in the band

this is a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB3ivplADe4

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's favourite music on: November 03, 2011, 08:23:35 PM
I remember reading somewhere that he was a big fan of ELO's Eldorado when it came out. Also that he liked Forever by Roy Wood which was Wood's tribute to both Wilson and Neil Sedaka and he sings in the style of Carl Wilson (Wood plays saxophone on Its OK)

Teeter Totter Love sounds great, way better than I expected. Reminds me of some of Shelly Manne's music for the tv show Daktari
