Anyone here Facebook friends with her? I got her on my friends list, and some of her status updates are pretty far out.

Yesterday she claimed her bass lines are the most commonly copied bass lines in rap music.

2 - Given the way Disney sometimes do such tie-ins, it might only be available at Disney parks and stores for a while before it hits the racks. Happened before.

From what I've heard,  Disney held back on releasing the album for so long partially due to the fact they were planning and trying to figure out a good business plan for the release. One of their main ideas was to make it a Disney Store exclusive.

I'm all for free speech, but these inane threads are starting to get on my nerves. I like to talk about the Beach Boys in an intelligent, sometimes funny or goofy way. Not  stuff that is just plain weird and not fun or intelligent to read. Ghost would be better off if he posted less, because he has funny posts among the weird or odd posts he makes . Smiley
Amen, my brother.

Hey man,

When a member of Brian Wilson's band tells you that the song didn't make the final cut for the album, I think it's safe to assume that the song didn't make the final cut of the album. But I guess I should trust the all knowing smiley smile message board before I trust dudes that y'know, actually played on it.

Funny that: " a member of Brian Wilson's band " knows SO little, that they are telling people Brian didn't make the cut;
Funny that:  you assume they know SO much more than "the all knowing smiley smile message board";
Funny that:  you were SO lazy/short on time that you didn't check the facts, but now you have time to come back to defend someone that seems to know even less than you

Made my initial post at the tail end of my lunch break, now I'm done work for the day. Got plenty of time now bro.

And I can assure you that, yes, I was told yesterday by a member of Brian's band that they didn't make the cut. Whether it's correct, or incorrect, it's the information I've been given.

Very strange turn of events if Brian was indeed cut from the album. After all, the press release announcing this album was dated just THREE DAYS AGO, and Brian was listed among the participating artists. If his song was dropped, perhaps Brian will put it up on iTunes or give it away on his website. I bet he could do a great version of "Listen To Me" -- which reminds me, if they cut his song, it wasn't just cutting Brian Wilson, they've cut the TITLE TRACK of their CD! Odd...

Yeah, it seems there's a bit of misinformation/confusion surrounding the info I was given. But who knows. As the wise AGD once said, "stranger things have happened in the BW world".

Wow! I already knew Marcella was a tribute to The Rolling Stones, but I had no idea he did a live Buddy Holly tribute as well!

Wait... are you telling me Brian didn't write Johnny B Goode?

Or the Rolling Stone website... or the website for the album. Plus if that's so, the cover art needs a swift redesign.

listentomebuddyholly.com

It really would take about 20 seconds for the designer to open up his file for the cover art, and delete Brian Wilson's name from the text. Just sayin' that said "redesign" is a very very very easy task.

With all due respect, at least one member of Brian's band has been dishing out inaccurate song info for decades.  Grin

Most of his band members haven't even been with him for decades...

Interesting bit of information I found out recently. Members of Brian's band weren't even aware that recording sessions were going on at the moment.

No reason why they should.

Just interesting to know that Brian's obviously in the studio recording something at the moment, and the band that's backed him up live as well as on recording for the past 13 years is being left in the dark.

Chill man, and stop hanging out with Phil Cohen.

Man, how'd you know I was such a big Hardy Boys fan?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, and I'm too lazy/short on time to read the whole thread, but Brian's song for this tribute didn't make the cut. Sorry if I'm repeating what's already known.

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / My review of Brian Wilson in Calgary and Edmonton. on: July 08, 2011, 07:03:16 PM
I said a week ago in Kayla's thread that I'd write my review of the Calgary and Edmonton shows.

I hung out with the band, I took Probyn to Banff on the Friday before the Calgary show, I met Brian for about the fourth time ever (the picture's posted in Kayla's thread), I joined Kayla and the band at the bar after the Edmonton show, and amazing as all of this was, what really, really, really, really made the performances was seeing Brian Wilson in the amazing shape and mental state he appeared to be in.

I've seen him before, several times. The Calgary and Edmonton shows were actually my 9th and 10th time seeing Brian. First time was with my father at a Beach Boys concert at the Dallas County Fair in 1994 or 1995, I don't remember that show really at all since I was still a young child at the time, though I remember there were girls in bikinis dancing on stage, as well as fake palm trees, but to this day my parents have both told me Brian stumbled on stage and did a couple songs with them (I've tried finding the show on Eric's Setlist Archive, but no luck). My father raised me on The Beach Boys. He gave me his copy of Surf's Up when I was 13 and at first I didn't get it at all.

Since then, I've fallen in love, flew to New York to catch the 2 Pet Sounds concerts at the Beacon and seen him quite a few times since.

I heard a rumor back in September last year that they were coming to Calgary and I could hardly believe it, until a month or so later an official announcement was made, and I bought my tickets for Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver the day they went on sale. Unfortunately due to current unsuspected family, and financial issues, I couldn't make it to Vancouver, but I still went to Calgary and Edmonton.

All I really have to say about the concerts themselves is that it was Brian at the best I've ever seen him. Of all the times I've seen Brian, he smiled the most, talked the most between songs, actually interacted with fans (there were a couple times during the Edmonton shows where he would make hand gestures directly towards my friends and I, and when we would do them back, he would smile, mod, and do them to us again), actually played his piano a lot, sang more beautifully than I've ever heard, and just seemed like he was happy and legitamitely wanted to be there.

During Calgary, the Gershwin set blew me away, he sang better than I'd ever heard, he surpassed what he did on the album, he hit notes I didn't think he was capable of hitting anymore, and held notes for longer than ever, in perfect tune.

In Edmonton, after being completely blown away by Gershwin in Calgary, I felt that the set in Edmonton wasn't as good, he seemed stiff, upset, didn't talk at all during songs, sat at his stool almost motionless, didn't sing quite as beautifully, and when he did talk, it was to say weird things along the lines of "if you guys don't like this, I'll give you your money back". Though when the Beach Boys hits came around, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. He was talking, making jokes, nailing every song, and looked like he was having fun. Before Marcella he said "Sometimes people tell me we're not as good as The Rolling Stones, and I say 'Whatcha talkin' 'bout Buddy?' This next songs Marcella, rocks a little bit", after Darian sang Darlin', Brian said "That wasn't actually Darian singing, it was just an optical illusion!". But the thing that absolutely blew me away the most was when he played God Only Knows. I have never ever heard him sing it so gentle and beautifully, he hit some of the high notes and sang falsetto, at times it was like out of nowhere his voice from 1966 was back, and it made me cry, absolutely beautiful and I honestly believe that not a single live music performance will ever top this for the rest of my life. My friends and I all turned to each other during God Only knows and couldn't say anything except for "oh my god".

If you have a chance to see Brian Wilson on any of his upcoming tour dates, do it, who cares if Taylor's not there, or if he's not playing the entire Gershwin album. I can guarantee that you will love it, and Brian Wilson is at his absolute best, and is in an extremely rare joyful form. OIf all the times t I've seen Brian, these have been the best.

Meaning that Mike sees the touring Beach Boys as a show that must go on ; would the wheels keep rolling without Mike ?
I recall an interview--couple years ago now, maybe?--when Mike said he could envision a Beach Boyless "Beach Boys" touring. Unless I'm imagining that. (But I don't think I am.) And for my two cents, I see no heresy in such a thing whatsoever. Some people go to see the people themselves, but others go to hear the music and see a great show. If that's the case, once the guys hang it up, why not have an officially sanctioned entity? Again, I realize some people would have no interest in such a thing. But others would.

The Four Freshmen are still performing and I'm gonna assume all the original passed long ago.

so far.

No, unless some weird sh*t goes down, BWPS is the only version of smile to ever be completed by Brian Wilson. Last I heard,  the upcoming Smile Sessions release is being put together and completed by Mark Linett and Alan Boyd.
