Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike working on yet another new album

Anyone overseas enjoying 12SOS yet? I switched the settings on Spotify so that I use the Australian version. 12 Sides of Summer wasn't cringey or unplesent to me, but it felt unnecessary because all the songs are ones we've heard before, done better. The version of Surfin here wasn't as bad as the Summer In Paradise version, but it can't hold a candle to the original. The re-dos of the songs from looking Back With Love aren't better than the ones from 40 years ago. His version of "Here Comes the Sun" sounds more like "Everyone's In love With You" than George Harrison original. "Keepin the summer Alive" was never one of my favorites, but this version makes me appreciate the original a little. The worst was "It's O.K", but that was released last year. I don't know why this pic is in the emojis, but I'm using it

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / I met Mike Love
|
on: September 14, 2017, 03:04:08 PM
|
Yesterday I met Mike Love at a book signing in Seattle. Nothing bad happened and nothing bad was said. I asked him what him songwriting contributions were to the song "She Knows Me Too Well" were. I knew that he had a credit on that song, but it sounded more like a Brian song. He told me he wrote all the words. I can tell if people are lying and he did not look like he was. Whether you believe it of not is up to you. I also asked him what his contribution to "Leaving this town" was and he said that despite receiving credit on that song, it was a Carl song that he did nothing on. He later signed a lyric sheet of "That's Not Me" that I printed out. That song is, in my opinion, the best one he sang on.
I am not trying to defend anything Mike did or troll anyone, I just though that my encounter yesterday would be interesting. I wish that Brian was well enough to go to book signings and answer questions.

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Petition beach boys NOT to play at Trumps inauguration

I wrote..."I don't want Mike to tarnish THEIR name. Any publicity isn't necessarily good publicity. This is as close to the worst publicity the Beach Boys could get at this point in their storied history without actually having to do jail time. But...make NO mistake about it...to play for trump would be a total crime." I gave them my name and my e-mail address. But no!!! They want my actual address and postal code. Well THAT ain't gonna happen. Good gawd!!! I'm not a total idiot. I don't personally require that info. The site is just being weird. You can log in with Facebook, that might help.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If the other BBs had Brian's hearing impairment

How would history have been different if a different BB member was deaf on one ear, instead of Brian? ]
Oddly enough David has been deaf in his right ear for a year. He had a stroke shortly after his heart attack that ruptured a blood vessel going from his brain to his ear. He jokes he always wanted to be like Brian, but not THAT way! Since losing his hearing he’s recorded his Back in the Garage CD, some tracks with Probyn and Nelson for a new solo CD, recorded a version of Cuddle Up, did session work for the new Mod Hippie album produced by Adam Marsland, has played many shows with the Surf City All Stars, a small number with Mike, and did a tour of Spain playing very loud surf instrumental music. He’s also done countless interviews & personal appearances and recently, an acting job. He misses being able to hear music in stereo terribly, some tones cause pain in his bad ear, and there is a socially awkward (or annoying) element when he can’t hear what the other person is saying conversationally. Otherwise, the impairment has not had much of an impact on his ability to play, record or perform. He even says he has an easier time staying on pitch now because he hears his own voice much clearer in his head. It’s certainly not an ideal situation for any musician, but I don’t think history would be altered too greatly if the tables had been turned. Very sorry to hear that he had a stroke. Good thing he overcame it and is still active.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Should the Beach Boys play the Trump inauguration?

Plus... Does the public really need to speculate on why a guy who (hopefully won't) might play an inauguration for an anti-gay Vice President conspicuously did NOT eulogize (in even just a brief social media mention) the passing of a prominent LGBT band manager of his band, in contrast to his bandmate Brian, who went out of his way to eulogize said manager on Facebook? People don't need more reasons to hate Mike or to speculate as to his motives. People (who aren't even fans of this band) will want to tear apart any celeb associating with hateful bigots. Not worth it. Not worth it. I happen to care about the legacy of this band and don't want to see it tarnished any further.
What band manager is this and what is the source that he was gay? I have nothing against gay people, but this is new information for me.
