Because Love You, like Today, is meant to be heard as a full album!! It's all about context.
Actually, speaking of which, when I was first listening to the GV Box I was thinking "These songs are all really cool! Who says the later-period sucks?" I listened to the Love You songs in particular and they really struck me. I was happy that the rest of the album was as cool.

Yeah, the set is what I was aiming for. I made a 20-something song 'best of the box' mix a while ago, most of which was the obvious choices, so I have kind of ignored a lot of the box because of this, which is why I figured I'd discuss it!
I love Hold Me Tight... I listened to the Beatles' version recently and didn't like it nearly as much, even though it's their song.

If it's possible to do that (make a CD of the albums as played through the matrix), why hasn't been released like that already? It seems that that would make a really interesting release, not to mention the most "official" way of hearing it aside from using the matrix itself. I guess it wasn't possible to do that in the 70s?

I LOVE Love You. Everything about it. The sheer exuberance makes it work. I can't help but sing along with every song. In my iTunes, all of the songs on this album have been played at least 25 times in the last year, which is more than I can say for any other album I have. My least favourites are probably Mona and Ding Dang, but they're still fun and short enough that they don't really get in the way. I'd vote 5 if I could.

I loved Smiley Smile from the moment I heard Vegetables and it just got better from there. Funnily enough, this album "sounds" like the Beach Boys more to me than anything else. For some reason I identify with their voices on the album, especially during Wonderful's party break.
