I like that he emphasizes the things he likes about the albums over the things he dislikes; I don't like that he barely mentions Carl at all. Today should rank higher, as should Sunflower; I don't remember seeing Smiley Smile on the list. Maybe he thought Smile replaces SS. Not in my book.
It's number three.

What we have here is one of my very favourite songs of the 70s, "It's OK", which would head my list by several thousand miles. A fun cover that I always enjoy, "Come Go With Me", which would be a distant second by default Five vaguely pleasant songs I seldom or never listen to and would have difficulty ranking. And a record I despise with all my heart, "Rock N Roll Music", which would be so far at the end of the list you would need a telescope to see it

Here are my favourite 30 songs and favourite 10 albums as submitted to the recent reader's poll at bowiesongs.wordpress.com. The songs are in alphabetical order except for my top pick "Ashes to Ashes". The albums are in rough order of preference
1. Ashes To Ashes Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?) All The Madmen Boys Keep Swinging Changes Drive In Saturday "Heroes" I Have Not Been To Oxford Town It's Gonna Be Me Jump They Say Karma Man Kooks Lady Stardust Letter To Hermione Life on Mars? The Man Who Sold the World Modern Love Moonage Daydream Queen Bitch Quicksand Soul Love Sound and Vision Space Oddity Starman Suffragette City TVC15 Untitled No.1 Where Are We Now? Word On A Wing Young Americans
TOP 10 ALBUMS
1. Hunky Dory 2. The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars 3. Low 4. Station To Station 5. Aladdin Sane 6. Diamond Dogs 7. Lodger 8. "Heroes" 9. David Bowie/Space Oddity 10. Scary Monsters
Like most of my favourite artists, Beach Boys included, I never really expect the man in the street to understand why they are so special and important, so I've very heartened by the public outpouring of grief and tributes.

I don't go to many big heritage act shows, but from online setlists I get the impression that the "longer shows with deep cuts" phenomenon goes beyond the Beach Boys world and is a more general trend, along with the fashion for playing complete albums. I guess it's to do with concerts becoming a more important source of money with the decline in record sales, so more care is taken with them, and bands/management keep a keen eye on what the competition are doing. I heard a James Taylor interview recently where the interviewer asked a question implying that the audience really wants to hear "Fire and Rain". he said yeah, they like to hear that but they like to hear the deep cuts too, and that setlists are a balancing act of trying to please everyone.
