Leaving This Town--I feel like it never ends

Forever

I sang this song to my wife at our wedding, and then we danced to the original.

(Ah heck, here's the video link if you happen to feel like gettin' sappy.  Skip to about 4:20 to hear my live wedding version. Smiley http://vimeo.com/62524046 )

Thanks for sharing this most personal link. It's nice to see Smiley Smilers in a more human context. Nice pipes, too. Congrats on your recent wedding (still recent you're under 1 year!)

08. 15 Big Ones - shame this is what was released when the US was ready to embrace them again
07. M.I.U. - kinda have to agree with what Dennis Wilson said about this album and Mike's karma
06. Carl and The Passions "So Tough!" - nice album but doesn't sound like the BB - shows them clearly as 2 fragmented subgroups
05. L.A. Light Album - Dennis tracks alone get it to #5, the others are dreck (hello Sumahama & disco Here Comes the Night)
04. Holland - I personally like the flow of this album and the homesick Al/Mike California tributes, but overall a mixed back of good with bad tracks
03. Surf's Up - I actually think this is an overrated album (makes its way on the 500 albums you must listen to before you die, etc--not in their 10 best overall, but 3rd best here)
02. The Beach Boys Love You - gem of an album that creates a great vibe all its own with Brian and the Moog
01. Sunflower - great balanced album with equal contributions by all band members
55  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Album Era Polls: The Sunny Hit Years (1962-65) on: March 02, 2014, 05:46:43 PM
Today is the only album from this era that I find listenable, and it is still not without its flaws.
Honest question, what do you like? You seem to dislike so much that I would like to know what you actually do like.

I love or like the individual songs on the early records (besides the obvious fillers) but I find the albums themselves hard to listen to.
Too much filler breaking up the flow. Today! is the only record that doesn't suffer from that problem, but I have never grown to like Help Me Ronda. Sounds really undercooked.

Greta Gabo didn't get the memo that you should actually be a fan of The Beach Boys to post on Smiley Smile.

10. Surfin' Sufari - a debut album and it shows--working out the kinks--less inventive BW arrangements as he found his footing
09. Little Deuce Coupe - first concept album and very well done at that, but ultimately 4 repeat tracks and no true standout new track for me
08. The Beach Boys' Christmas Album - I enjoy Christmas music, but it is Christmas music, and when I think BB I don't think of Christmas music first and foremost
07. Beach Boys' Party! - for a throwaway filler album some fun tracks and I like the really cool party vibe they created
06. Surfer Girl - great instrumentals but ultimately too many of them for a track known for its harmonies and vocal arrangements
05. Surfin' USA - really starting to hit their stride here
04. Shut Down Vol 2 - hurt by its ridiculously stupid name, but a great LP that is truly fun, fun, fun
03. Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!!) - a step back from Today! but killer nonetheless and the debut of Brian's move towards sophistication (intro to Cali Girls)
02. All Summer Long - underrated classic IMO featuring the best cover ever done by any artist (the lush and gorgeous Hushabye)
01. The Beach Boys Today! - indisputable #1 for me, rearrange the #2-10 if you like but the 2nd side of this album is darn near perfection and makes this easily #1

1) Friends
2) 20/20
3) Smiley Smile
4) Wild Honey

I just adore Friends--head and shoulders above the others for me, and while I love Wild Honey, I find 20/20's eclectic mix and Smiley Smile's inventive vocal arrangements to create a more superior listening experience for me

My vote is for All I Wanna Do, though I fear Slip on Through WON'T this round

And I can only assume those voting for "Cool, Cool Water" have not heard or fully appreciate the splendor of the vocals demonstrated in Stephen Desper's study video.

True Bubbly--I'll get around to it!

Cool Cool Water. These votes against Slip on Through really surprise me--I can only assume that those voting against the track have not heard or fully appreciated the splendor of the vocals demonstrated on the MiC bonus disk---that or there really IS some anti-Dennis sentiment around here  police

'Til I Die, and it's not that close. I strongly prefer Brian's vocal on Surf's Up to Carl's.

Have either of you watched Survivor? That is what it's all about: Tactical voting.... Really I don't think it affects the end result, which is the real point of these threads.  3D

I am a huge Survivor fan….I must have missed the episodes where everyone clearly writes down their votes, contestants add the vote tallies, and change votes several times to ensure that a competitor that they like sticks around an extra round--even though they really want someone else gone. Really, these are for fun, and I am NOT advocating creating rules against changing votes, but really, if a track is your least fave it is your least fave--end of story. Vote it off and be done with it, don't sit there counting tallies to "save" a weak track that will ultimately go anyway. It's one thing when pixletwin wants a tie broken at the end, quite another when it is done early to "save" unworthy tracks.

Can't believe I'm voting for Feel Flows considering I absolutely adored it after being exposed to it in Cameron Crowe's masterpiece Almost Famous, but Feel Flows garners my vote nonetheless. I, too, can't understand the dislike for ADITLOAT but I will refrain from playing "voting games" and trying to save it as I am trying to adhere to the spirit of Survivor where you wouldn't know without a doubt every other person's vote....

Marcella--did you need me to say that considering my handle?
69  Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Beach Boys Survivor #20: Sunflower on: February 24, 2014, 04:04:50 AM
Cool Cool Water--surprised by the votes for Slip on Through. Sunflower is the first album I heard from the BB as I started to dig "deep" into their catalogue (going beyond the greatest hits) and Slip On Through is  a great intro track and a warning that this isn't your "mother's Beach Boys"--Cool Cool Water on the other hand is a poorly formed song with basically a chorus and nothing else

Hard seeing superior songs being voted off while the go nowhere Cool Cool Water sticks around--my vote goes to Cool Cool Water…again
