Hi there! I just stumbled upon this by chance but I honestly think I might be the guy for the job. Are the Pro Tools sessions already set up, or do you still need help bouncing from tape? I run a recording studio out of my basement in Brooklyn called Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen.
Here's an EP i recently produced: http://sonsofanillustriousfather.bandcamp.com/album/we-are-dead-and-reborn-ep
Here's my band which I do all the recording and engineering for also: http://ghostpal.bandcamp.com

Let me know if you're interested! My email is the3droogs@hotmail.com
53  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / New Ghost Pal - "Ghost Teen" on: August 20, 2011, 10:02:07 AM
hey guys
just recently posted a new Ghost Pal track called "Ghost Teen"
it's very stripped back this one, also i was experimenting a bit with autotune to try to reflect a lack of humanity and ghostliness
then we of course have the reverse reverb trick that i think "Feel Flows" originally pioneered and now everyone employs
hope you dig it
http://ghostpal.bandcamp.com/track/ghost-teen
thanks for listening!

Thanks a lot Luther! I really appreciate that. Yeah pastiche can get tired really quickly, it's cute to play spot the influence but if they aren't there in service of an urgent idea, then you're just looking at prettily cloaked air

The skello is basically patterned off a cello (although the tuning is significantly different), constructed out of steel, with a long tall neck and a creepy skeletal rib cage that acts as the back of the instrument. It's very quiet unamplified but is outfitted with a contact mic apparatus and plugged into an amp (in this case). It's Caleb's first instrument, and is not that useful as a melodic voice, but man you can achieve some creepy drones on it!
actually, here's a picture of Caleb with the cello:

55  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / New Ghost Pal - "RETRIBUTION" on: July 04, 2011, 12:05:36 PM
Hey all
Here's another new Ghost Pal track I think we can easily trace back to a Beach Boys influence..in this case the whole "Wild Honey" LP was real formative
Also we got didgeridoo, harmonium, cello and a new instrument my friend invented called the "Skello". It's insane
Here's the music: http://ghostpal.bandcamp.com/track/retribution

I hope you enjoy it and thanks for listening!

Thanks Luther. I've actually never listened to Apples in Stereo but i'm a big fan of his production for NEutral Milk Hotel, and also Olivia Tremor Control are one of my all time favorite bands

Featuring myself and my two younger brothers on vocals in an attempt at that kind of brotherly blend
hope you enjoy

59  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / New Music - Ghost Pal "I'll Shake Stuff That Rattles" on: May 25, 2011, 10:49:24 AM
hey guys
my paranormal psych-soul project Ghost Pal just released its most recent recording "I'll Shake Stuff That Rattles" yesterday on our bandcamp. I wrote the song, sang it and did the recording, and played some of the instruments as well. This song i wanted to post here cause it's definitely a dark fragment influenced by "Smiley Smile" and other sort of alienated post-psychedelic music we love
we post new music every week though..i really hope you guys enjoy it
here it is: http://ghostpal.bandcamp.com/track/ill-shake-stuff-that-rattles

Not bad at all...

Get rid of the Mao poster though! You do realize how many millions of people died because of his regime?

Of course. That's my parent's house though. They studied in China and I spent most of my childhood in Hong Kong and Beijing. I've taken issue with their collecting of communist propaganda over the years, but as journalists they're definitely well enough informed to know what they're doing...it does offend people sometimes and I have mixed feelings about it, but I guess having lived there for so long and been immersed in that culture, with those posters everywhere, it's become a fascination for them.

Thanks for the kind words everyone too

hey guys
frequent reader of this site, haven't posted much in a while since i sort of prefer to sit back and let the experts go at it. (i'm on clean up duty for loose info)

anyway i just recorded and posted this cover of the surf's up classic at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eNf7glRm2M
i kinda messed up some of the lyrics in the second verse and it's really impromptu but i hope you dig it
62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dennis in the vocal blend on: March 10, 2011, 07:29:24 AM
Let's try to track him some more
Is that him harmonizing with Brian on the "dit, dit, dit, heroes and villains" variations?
I've always wondered

66  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Vocal peaks? on: November 04, 2007, 06:39:18 PM
Brian - Those falsetto squeals in the choruses of "A Thing or Two!!!!!!"
Carl - Man, it really might be the verses of "Baby Blue"
Dennis - "Little Bird"
Mike - All the bass vocals from the Smile sessions
Al - The bridge of "Don't Go Near the Water"
Bruce - The response vocal of "God Only Knows"
67  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smile Reference Threads / Re: The Definitive Vocal Credits Thread... on: August 27, 2007, 05:36:37 PM

The "hello" at the beginning sounds like Brian, a little, I think.

Agreed. If it's Carl, it's a funny reversal of the "Please Let Me Wonder" situation.
68  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smile Reference Threads / Re: The Definitive Vocal Credits Thread... on: August 26, 2007, 10:16:51 AM

I think that it's Bruce singing the title of "All I Wanna Do" in the bridge
I'd give Brian a backup for "Celebrate the News" - "there's been a change" in close harmony
And finally, although it sounds like he may be compounded with other voices, Bruce is definitely in there for the bridge of Take a Load Off Your Feet...it sounds like his more timid falsetto, and the final solo "glass" is unmistakeable.

The "bop bop dittlieits" or whatever in Add Some Music are harmonized between at least two voices...I'm not even sure I hear Dennis in there. Maybe Al and Carl? Brian?

Who's singing the "All I wanna do" in that song? In the bridge---sounds like Bruce maybe?

I'd put Brian down for prominent backup in "Our Sweet Love" the "doo doo doo doo" ...if only because it's the only vocal on the original track and it's just so damned beautiful.

Who's singing "fly away" in At My Window? Maybe Brian?

Finally, what does Bruce sing in I Just Got My Pay?

It's a pretty faithful rendition (we were attempting it for a movie that wanted pretty much the same), but I'd be curious to hear what aficionados like all of yourselves think. It's up at:
