This is a start. The line marked * is particularly troublesome! Those with good ears please step forward...

Rings around my neck at last
The memories of the past
Are catching me so fast
Someone's calling me
To see if I could be
How you could best be like me
Just how you can do tonight
Woh-ohhhhhhh
Oh oh oh

Rings around my neck so tight
One singer is wondering tonight
You can't tell if this is right
Someone's got pressure on me
To see if I can be
How you can just be like me
Just how you can do tonight
Woh-ohhhhhhh
Oh oh oh

interesting.  the comments show not too many people are listening.

Quite depressing, really. Commenter A in the following exchange tries to set things right:

A:
For all the hate comments in this section;
This video was nothing more than a peace bringing video. There is no way that you should have pinpointed every other problem going on in the world right now. Take a moment and try to see everyone as human.

B:
You will never know peace in the world until you get some for yourself.

A: Trust me. I know peace and I have lots of it. Although the hell of a world we live in, ain't full of peace. Which is why we need more videos like these, and for people to stop picking out all hate towards them, and listen for a Gosh Darn change.

Can anyone figure out the lyrics in the really obscure BW song "Rings"?  There is a set of words I cannot for the life of me decipher

Have you typed out the ones you can hear? (If they were to be here in this topic we could all contribute.)

If not, I may do it when I find the time.

My memory is foggy, but is it the instrument that Kessel is pictured holding in the booklet of the '97 Pet Sounds box?

You mean this one...

God I had to go back a long way to find a straightforward Beatles topic!

This is for Peter Reum (he knows why):

I was in the front row for a KC concert during their "Larks' Tongues" era. The lights were out as the piece gradually swelled from pianissimo and as the first big chord exploded, on went the lights and there was John Wetton standing in front of me!

What a concert (Jamie Muir was there too). What a bass player----and violinist.

I think my favourite JW moment is in "Starless", the passage beginning just after 4:20:

Rest in peace, sir.

Does anybody know what version of 'Shortenin Bread' Brian probably listened to so much? I'd guess that there was one version that really got him, but maybe not.

It might have been this one from late 1960 by Paul Chaplain & His Emeralds:

Or possibly The Andrews Sisters' version if it was in Audree's collection.

Pure speculation, of course...

3636  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: So what did we all do today? on: January 31, 2017, 10:29:30 AM
I upgraded my computer (well, beginning yesterday). I'd been getting warning remarks from websites and took the plunge (with some indispensable help from a family member). Of course the next thing is to get the computer to do what it used to do. My old Word folders and mail folders had vanished but their contents had not. That's when you realize that the internet really is your friend (most of the time). A few online instructions later most things were back the way they were!

'The Four Seasons - Violin Concerto in G Minor, RV 315, "L'estate" (Summer) : III. Presto' by Joshua Bell and the Academy of St. Martin In The Fields.

I've been playing this often for the last month or so. This version is probably the most well played all around that I've ever heard. I'm always looking for new versions of The Four Seasons so if anyone has any recommendations please feel free to suggest!

Curious to know what you think of this. Maybe you know that Max Richter has "recomposed" The Four Seasons. For someone who isn't the work's biggest fan, this is a godsend! I often have this wondrous album playing while I work.

Yes! I can't even tell you how many times I've listened to that album. When I first heard about it I thought "Recomposing Vivaldi? That's sacrilege!" Then when I heard it I thought it was brilliant. It actually got me hooked on Max Richter's other work, not sure if you've heard it, but his album Memoryhouse is an incredibly chill/beautiful album. The song 'November' is especially good.

Cool. Thanks for the tip! I've seen quite a lot of Richter's work around so it's good to be pointed at something specific. I'll give it a try. :=)

Joe Meek is a name that looms large in early to mid '60s pop in the UK. A tortured genius, he masterminded a whole host of wonderful sounding 45s, often by artists who by their own admission couldn't sing. This was no impediment to sound wizard Meek----they always ended up sounding like professionals! His backing musicians were another matter----these included many great names of later years.

This is actor John Leyton amidst a typical Meek soundscape on "Wild Wind":

I believe jk was kidding. I can confirm I was laughing solely at the hilarious video and do not feel owed any apologies by anyone.

Yes, JK was living up to his initials (again). Grin

Actually, I've accompanied the singer they mention (Lee Towers) on a number of occasions during my stint in a semi-pro band in the late '80s to mid '90s...

I listened to the song "Touch" by Daft Punk (off of Random Access Memories) last night, and I had a great time.

Hi Mari. I'm still out on RAM. Ask Ovi, who really did his level best to convert me a while back. I like the track with Panda Bear but the rest still leaves me cold.

Surprised no one has mentioned Brian Jones..."Sittin On A Fence," "Lady Jane" (unless that's Nicky) and I've read he played it on "Dandelion".
Sittin' On A Fence is great! One of the Rollings' forgotten gems. Mick sang it so sweetly. Thanks for reminding me of this beauty, rn57! And no, it's all Brian - both on dulcimer & harpsichord - in Lady Jane. No Nicky.
Agreed! Yet another reason why Brian Jones will always be the Stones!

This.

Lifted from my other forum:

This dates from the mid 1970s and illustrates my technique (such as it was) at the time. This example is A4 size----later I did some that were at least four times as big but the colours (made with cheapo felt pens) have faded over time. This one is in a sketchbook so it has weathered well:

Or the Magic Band?

"Due to John Peel's championing of the work on BBC radio, Lick My Decals Off, Baby spent eleven weeks on the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number twenty. This remains Beefheart's highest-charting album in the UK."

Unless you mean The Magic Band without Beefheart... Grin

Was it the Costa Mesa show or one of the others cited by Ian above,  that Brian wore the black leather pants on stage ??

You could post it in Sandbox insignificant chit-chat.

Are you suggesting that the captain has been laughing at insignificant chit-chat?

I think you owe him an apology. Smokin
