Yeah that would work because LA has a much bigger potential clientele than where i am now.

But I'm actually serious here.

my original career goal going into college was to be a drag queen but then i realized i was straight so it just wouldn't work. i've also lost my feminine assets with age
203  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Career options for me on: July 31, 2014, 10:35:46 PM
What is a good career for people that have given up on life? I just want to make money and pay for my apartment while I surf the Internet all day. I have a degree with honors in Art History.  Afro

Music:

Cheapo Records, Electric Fetus

Art:

MIA and Walker/Sculpture Garden

Food:
Hello Pizza, My Burger, some Vietnamese place on "eat street", Little Tijuana

Nightlife:

19 Bar, tried to go to Red Hot but couldn't find parking and it was raining, and just gave up

I had a lot of friends in the area determining what we did, but this topic will come in handy if I venture up North again!

Spector sucks. Short and simplistic ditties. Listen to Yes or ELP

February, 1970. Another cool look.

You really can't beat this. 1968 Lennon was the coolest.

Bill Wyman was pretty cool. He was definitely the oldest rocker of the British invasion, practically middle-aged.

It's a cool area from what I've heard, very progressive. Why would I leave?

I had long hair for years and cut it all off a couple months ago. It got very long. I'm growing it back. I miss it too. But -- everyone else seems to like the short hair better! Of course, adult men are expected to wear their hair short so I can't really trust anyone else's opinion. I feel like I'm... missing something without my locks. I'm going back more or less to traditional look, like you saw in that video.

Also, I love that shirt!

I'm having a college retirement vacation in Minneapolis this weekend. What are some good restaurants, music stores and venues, art galleries,  etc. to enjoy while I'm in the area? I have many friends from school there that will likely guide me around, but I'd like to hear words from ya'll Smilers.
218  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: July 23, 2014, 02:48:32 PM
I’ve noticed something concerning the “recycling” of old song ideas. Why is that bad? I’m not talking about remakes of BB songs and whatnot. But when someone condescendingly points out “Brian was just recycling a demo from 1983” or something,

If it is revealed the songs were written 15 or 20 years ago the magic would be gone for me. It will seem like product, pieced together from rubble left behind when Brian was still an active composer, not art. I want to be wowed. That sadly wont happen -- Joe Thomas is involved.

What else did Joe Thomas dig from the toilet for the new LP? I heard Last Song was a Landy era track and Brian has mentioned most of the songs date back quite far.

i also love Session Man, incredible melody and a clever lyric. I like the high voices in the refrain. Too Much On My Mind is a song that touches the heart. Youre Looking Fine is a stupid, but fun blues tune. Dave's vocal sounds good for once. Ill Remember is another simple one, but the sentiment is irressistable. The guitar also sounds cool.
221  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: July 23, 2014, 12:41:36 AM
Im sayin this album gonna blow not that it alreAdy blew duh bubbly cheese
222  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Greatest Albums of 1966 & Onward on: July 23, 2014, 12:28:40 AM
Its my second favorite after VGPS which probably means its one of my ten favorite albums ever. I'll Remember is such a cute closer, try that one out.
223  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: July 22, 2014, 11:24:38 PM
Guitarfool, I think the whole project(s) sounds forced. He's even rerecording a Summer Days track just like on mediocre Imagination. I might not have heard anything but I know Brian's worst albums are those with the most recycling and guest stars. He's even keeping the summer alive by rerecording New Love, as well as the reported car song Run James Run, not to mention the island song. I wasn't a fan of the reunion fan, and my worst fears are coming to pass.

224  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Greatest Albums of 1966 & Onward on: July 22, 2014, 11:07:35 PM
I haven't heard many albums from 1966. I don't buy many albums, don't fileshare, and am just usually slow to try new things. I also just prefer listening to individual tracks on youtube and greatest hits comps. I'll rank what i've heard.

1. Face to Face (rocking, concise, witty -- i love it)
2. Pet Sounds (peerless production and arrangements but not the lyrics are nothing special)
3. Revolver (tight arrangements but a bit cobbled together -- The Beatles 20/20)
4. Blonde on Blonde - (too much shrieking harmonica ouch)

The Lives of John Lennon is the best book on the man in question
