Bahahaha it's great that everybody else realizes how much of a putz Matt Sorum is. Almost 3 years later and he still hasn't gotten over the fact Scott Weiland jumped the Velvet Revolver ship. He also wants both himself and Adler to play drums if the "original" GNR lineup reunites.  Roll Eyes

One song per disc?

Denny, this may or may not be hard for you to read, so I'm writing this "disclaimer", just in case.  Wink

If Dennis hit his head under the boat in that clip, I would buy it and have the entire boat DNA tested for any blood residue, or hair, etc. For some reason, I feel that if it were proven that it was an accident, it may bring some closure to his family. To many people think that the Dennis of 1983 was just a washed up, drunken bum.  Sad After that, I would burn it.

An accident as opposed to what?

I happened to turn on the news about a half hour after the quake struck. Parts of the country are looking pretty bad. Reminded me of seeing the pictures from after Hurricane Katrina. It sounds like most people were trained to deal with tsunamis and were able to get to higher ground, the latest update had the death toll around 200.

Some pictures. http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/03/earthquake-in-japan/100022/

Too early to make jokes about the fairy tale girl somewhere near Japan?

I've heard a recording of them doing it live. The audience boos when Mike is trying to introduce the song, but everybody claps at the end, just like every other song.

How anticlimactic.

I just found a recording that is supposedly the last voicemail he left. http://www.tmz.com/videos?autoplay=true&mediaKey=700586b0-ddb6-4646-bad2-c84c168273a5

That took me to "Gary Busey cracked out on stripper pole" but the video you're talking about is on that page as well.

1536  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Was Dennis a good drummer? on: February 23, 2011, 02:17:40 AM
It seems to me that from around 1978 on Dennis became a pretty poor drummer in live concerts. Especially at the Knebworth 1980 concert, and pretty much every live recording that I have heard from that period on. I was just watching the Seattle 1983 video and I was surprised at just how bad he was playing. He just seemed to be banging away, with no real regard to being "technically correct". One every uptempo song he seemed to play basically the same cymbal and drum "crash, boom, crash, boom etc" beat. What do you guys think? Did his alcoholism and drug problems make him playing get worse over time?

Don't know about the reasons, but -

I am not fond of his work on the 1973 live set. Esp. in songs like 'Help Me Rhonda', he smashes the entire song to smithereens (in an insensitive way). Perhaps other songs by other artists fare better by such an approach, but the BBs catalogue deserves better, IMHO.

Wasn't Ricky Fataar drumming for them in 1973?
1537  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Was Dennis a good drummer? on: February 22, 2011, 09:11:05 PM
He played some great stuff on their early records and in early live performances. Like the TAMI Show.

Seems like he wasn't the same drummer towards the end. Could have something to do with the various injuries to his hands & feet throughout the years, but I'm sure there are more reasons. Some concerts it doesn't even look like his drum set is even set up with mics.
1538  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Black Eyed Peas Super Bowl Halftime on: February 20, 2011, 07:50:20 PM
To be honest I don't think I've ever seen a good superbowl Halftime show.  I guess Prince's was pretty good, I've been getting more into Prince lately.  McCartney's I remember as being decent, but I'm a big McCartney fan anyways, a book signing would be exciting to me, lol.  Some of the others like Springsteen I'm not a fan so I wouldn't enjoy it anyways.

For the Black Eyed Peas, really I don't think the problem was the group, it was just that they picked them in the first place.  They're not really a stadium band, they couldn't have possibly have done a good job.  I've always liked the members of the group, they seem pretty level headed and down to earth.

Down to Earth?!

It's "no grilled trolls" of course.

Who actually got the joke when they first read it?
1542  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: California Girls on: February 15, 2011, 01:54:44 AM
Who actually receives royalties now on the Sea Of Tunes catalogue that Murry signed away ? Haven't the rights to those songs reverted to Mike and Brian as a result of one of Mike's many lawsuits ?

I could've sworn I read that they were able to get back the rights to those songs somewhere. Maybe it was different songs?

I remember something about Brian either not actually signing it or not being "of sound mind" when he signed it.

I know a couple of different times where Carl or Dennis are drunk at a concert and it affects their performance...but is there any other evidence of the guys being on other substances during concerts, through audio/stories/video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1EPXBQV3yM

I'm pretty sure that's not beer causing Brian to act like that....

What do you think he's on?

Columbia's finest is my guess.

I think it's "been" posted that this video isn't really "for" Rolling Skating Child. Is there "some" expert opinion, as to whether they're "really" performing the song in "this" video?   perhaps someone who "was" actually at this "show", as I wasn't.

Regardless of what song it is, I'd say Brian is in a world of his own at the time and his balance is a little too good to be drunk.

Sure is nice to see him dance though.  Grin
1544  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Essential Album Fillers List on: February 14, 2011, 04:16:50 AM
Scrolling through the Beach Boys in my iTunes library, most of the filler songs appear to be on Hawthorne, CA.

What ones?

The ones that just have people talking.  Azn

I don't think I'd be wrong in saying that "Don't Worry Baby" off The Beach Boys in Concert is the greatest live performance of any song ever performed. Every solitary second of that recording is kicking my ass right now.

Aw yeah. One of the few albums I don't own so I find myself listening to it on YouTube pretty frequently.
1548  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: February 12, 2011, 04:19:28 PM
Oh yeah, I see now. I didn't go to the listing( I see the yellow thing worked this time)
So I guess I'm not sitting on the only unopened copy , eh?
BUt ther Ebay listing says it's sealed, and they're showing a picture of the inside. Must be some variety of the bait and switch deal, huh.

You could have an autographed copy and you'd never know it!  Shocked

Is it worth opening to find out?

Not trying to take this thread even more off the topic of Brian's chiseled abs, but it seems like the two other message boards I visit regularly have a lot more male members.

Though I guess if I was on a parenting forum or the Lady Gag(a) forum, it would be the opposite.

Is the clips of Carl riding his bike the same ones from the Little Honda video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqr5U78-e1w
