I need to set aside the time to watch this but I want to thank you and your partners in advance. I do have your book and spatializer device but having the audio/video to accompany the book is a fantastic way to present and appreciate the material.

If I recall correctly, there's a cool story in the End of the Century reissue liner notes about how Brian and Rodney Bingenheimer took Spector to see the Ramones at the Whiskey and convinced him to produce them.

Hi back!

Release it lossy, people will buy. Later release it lossless, people will buy again.

I agree, Runners. I'm annoyed but am also part of the problem since I paid for it. But  I'd rather be able to buy it than not at all.

There's some interesting "Four on the Floor" chatter from Mike on KAEOS...
131  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'Holy Man' - Queen , 'The London Mix' - What Happened ? on: December 06, 2014, 07:02:06 PM
There were some articles suggesting that the cancellation of "The Drummer" movie  was a factor in the song not getting released.

Carl says it was a Dennis and Michael song on the live version on MIC.

Once again, I'm thrilled to be able to buy this stuff. Backing tracks and a cappella are always worthwhile! Thanks again to those who made it happen! Can't wait to digest these.

Great to see you active again and glad to hear that your sister is doing well.

Thanks for the new video. I do love that song. The Smiley Smile version is very dry, though some reverb was added to the Hawthorne, CA stereo remix. Your new version adds very interesting depth and width to the sound image, which allowed me to hear little details more clearly than I had before.
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Glen Campbell played Montreal 1965 not Brian on: November 16, 2014, 04:17:30 PM
My uncle said Glen was filling in when he saw the Beach Boys in Ottawa in the mid-60s. I think it's the same dates referred to here, because I remember noting the discrepancy when I read in the Badman book that Brian had played them.

I don't think so, though it was rumoured to be at the time.

The Brian/Spring version is also on the Pet Projects CD. Don't think I've heard the original! (the link AGD posted I think was the Spring one; sounds like the one I've got)

Who are the backup vocalists on Wouldn't it be nice to live again? I keep hearing Blondie but he hadn't joined yet. That was Carl, right?

Definitely Brian and Carl.
138  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alternate WIBN Issued in '80s on: September 14, 2014, 06:52:07 PM
If memory serves, this version was also used in an episode of the Wonder Years around that time (late-80s/early-90s).

Thanks for posting that! It's amazing to see worlds collide like that. I was just reading about Mr. Kiel, RIP. I was a huge Jaws fan when I was younger and of course his role in Happy Gilmore was great.

You may be interested to know that Kiel was in a California movie in 1962, which was later roasted on MST3K.

As some have guessed before, I do reference some MST3K stuff with my username and sig, which comes from that movie (and later in Mitchell).

I imagine the Canadian copy may technically be "rarer" than the US copy. Any idea how many copies it sold in Canada compared to the US/elsewhere?
141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stack-o-Tracks on: August 20, 2014, 07:27:43 PM
I have the EMI Canada '68 copy with booklet. In the corner on the back of the booklet it says "Printed in the USA."

And since we're at it, I also have a '76 UK issue and the 2001 Party twofer.
142  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sound Of Free on MIC on: June 13, 2014, 07:02:57 PM
No prob. That's also true, Mike wanted a TMer and Desper said no. I wonder how that affected Carl and Dennis, they really seemed to flourish in the Desper era...
143  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sound Of Free on MIC on: June 12, 2014, 02:38:42 PM
It's on his thread, but basically that the original was supposed to be quiet and intimate and the remix is a grand pronouncement with double-tracked vocals ruining the effect.
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sound Of Free on MIC on: June 10, 2014, 06:06:54 PM
Based on what SWD said about Lady vs. the remixed Fallin' in Love, I, too am saddened that the official Dennis-created mix was not included on MIC.

Mine are DKAO 2893 and E-ST 24009.

Anyone ID the organ used as the bed for that session, as one could theoretically hear on SOT 17?
147  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why was Carl at the bottom of the harmony stack? on: May 20, 2014, 07:11:17 PM
Back to the subject of Mike's "secret falsetto", listening to Smiley Smile today I picked up on what I think was a Mike  falsetto on She's Going Bald, the "upside your heeeaaad" bit (doubling Brian). Thoughts?
148  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why was Carl at the bottom of the harmony stack? on: May 12, 2014, 09:25:42 PM
I've long noticed the  weird high voice on some of the cuts on the Little Deuce Coupe album. Off the top of my head there's one on Showboat, Spirit of America, and Betsy. I think it might actually be Mike doing a 'falsetto'... On that note, I swear the official BBs website once listed "secret falsetto" in Mike's credits... I totally forget when and cannot verify if this is true.
149  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: So c-man... about that online sessionography.... on: March 21, 2014, 05:38:38 PM
That sounds killer. Hopefully it covers their whole career and not just the (comparative) sampling on MIC! Maybe that's asking a bit much...

At this time, just the MIC tracks are covered in-depth.

Fair enough! Looking forward to it!
