I think it's a mistake. With this last "Brian's Back" campaign that began in 1998, they've positioned Brian to the general public as if he was the same guy he was around Today/SD&SN, when many of the diehards rather he be built up as the quirky guy who put out quirky, Love You-style music.

..in the 2004 SMiLE cd booklet, there were pictures of 2004 Brian doing crazy things like throwing vegetables and jumping and swimming like all those pictures from 66/67.. that would be cool!
okay.. maybe i'm a bit baked here..
That reminds me, the other day I was feelin' on the same level as you must be on now, and I remarked to my wife "It'd be funny as hell if they did publicity pictures where Brian was reenacting different covers from the BB history", and for some reason the idea of 2009 vintage Brian in a snow globe surrounded by penguins like KTSA really split my merda. edit weird...the topic locked itself. I just unlocked it.

I've only read the article that was republished in The Dark stuff. Was it the same one? If it was, then not everything was 100% accurate, as it also claimed that Mike Love & Al Jardine weren't on Love You! One thing about the story that always cracked me up was the "Jacuzzi? JACUZZI?!" part. I know it's not supposed to be funny, but for some reason it was to me.

Good to see you online, Peter. Hope all has been well with you.
I think it goes without saying that you too were instrumental in saving Brian. Everything I've ever heard or read has confirmed what a good friend you have been to Brian. I think all of us here owe you a huge debt of gratitude, as does Brian himself.

Yep. He still drives, although for a few years he didn't. Brian looks like an older guy on psych-meds to my eyes. I'm not sure what Landy gave him legally that would have damaged his brain. In addition to the meds Brian was given by Landy for "theraputic reasons", Brian was also abusing Xanax at the time, apparently by choice.

What of the stories about Brian gaining weight and smoking again in the 92-95 period?
He had started gaining weight again around 1991, even before Landy left the scene. As far as smoking goes, I would venture to guess that started up again around the same time, although apparently he was still smoking weed during the Landy years and (I think) gave that up for good after Landy left. He quit smoking cigs in 1994.

They date from 1970-1974. The very first ones from the 38 second mark onwards are from 1973; bearded Brian with the Wolfman fingernails is from 1974. You can see in his face what coke was doing to him. I'll still never understood how a man who did as much coke as Brian still had an appetite to get as big as he did.

My question is, once Brian was better, why did it take so long for someone to do something about it? Brian's problems now are directly related to the meds & drugs he was given by Landy; I mean, my God, there's a clip on youtube where Brian is asking Landy to score him a "half, a quarter, and some Xanax".

Yeah, no doubt. I think I will. We bought her a toy xylophone for Christmas, and she's just loving that. Hell, maybe it's from all the Yo Gabba Gabba she watches! You and her have to fight for success - as a team you'll be unbeatable! And don't forget to tell her to always sing from her heart.

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / So my 1 year old can play the piano

My daughter is 17 months old, going on 18 months. My wife & I took her to go visit my Aunt in the retirement home where she lives. In the lobby there is a piano. To keep her occupied for a bit, I sat her on the bench right in front. She looked at me, so I hit a middle C on the piano, then went to talk to my aunt. I expected to hear random mashing and atonal racket, and thought it be cute for a lark. Lo and behold, she f*cking plays a C major chord, then proceeds to play the same thing an octave lower, then right back to the middle, then stops, laughs, and starts clapping. My wife's just rolling with laughter, my aunt looks like she's sitting there with her mouth open and her eyes bugging out, and I'm snapping pictures like crazy. She then proceeds to to play single notes, slowly, but it is actually playing a melody, which she starts playing faster. She does that a few times, stops, claps & laughs, climbs down off the bench and toddles over to me to hug my leg. That was the damned thing I have ever seen. Now Dana & I are both songwriters, but haven't owned a keyboard since 3 years before Jaymie was even born. Now, when Jaymie was in the womb, Dana would put headphones up to her stomach, and it usually had things like Pink Floyd , or the Final Fantasy 9 soundtrack, or Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE . After Jaymie was born, whenever she'd ride in the car with me, she'd be subjected to a good deal of Brian Eno, which she seems to enjoy. I'm about to post a thing on youtube where she babbles (in key, mind you) along to the guitar solo in "Trippin in a Hole in a Paper Heart", which I was singing (bad) karaoke to. So, yeah, it's apparent she loves music. But, here's the thing. I'm tempted to buy a piano come tax time, and see if she really does dig it, or if it was a fluke. And, what if she does? If she turns out to be a child prodigy, would it be wrong to try to cash in? I dunno, it doesn't feel right to me. What would you guys do?
