Title: Have you gone through a [insert name] phase? Post by: nobody on September 25, 2009, 12:31:40 AM Lots of people when they really get into bands and have favorite musicians tend to start emulating their lifestyles and such.
I went through a Brian phase. There was this one summer ... at the beginning of it I bought like six boxes of plain donuts and finished them within a week. I just started eating tons of junk food. One day after missing sleep for a few days I heated up a corn dog and walked outside at 6am as the sun was rising. I hallucinated a cat. I was chubby and delusional. I blame it all on Brian Wilson, he's a horrible influence, really. I was listening to SMiLE stuff all the time and thought the reclusive Brian Wilson thing was something worth doing myself. So glad I woke up from that dream. :-D Perhaps I'll go through an Al phase and read some books on teeth. Post by: The Heartical Don on September 25, 2009, 01:15:35 AM ;D brilliant post and photo... when I was much younger, I tried to take on a 'Brian look'... but my point of inspiration was a bit odd, namely the photo of Brian on the back of the 'Holland' LP sleeve. So I tried to look brooding, lonely, 'difficult', what have you.
Around 1988, after a diffcult period in my life, I was very touched with the idea of a 'come-back'. Just when Brian had his 'come-back' under the aegis of Landy. Post by: MBE on September 25, 2009, 07:05:16 AM When I was younger had thicker hair and Brian's build circa Pet Sounds I guess I thought I looked a little like him but I never combed my hair to the side or down. Now I have a red beard am thinner build wise and hair wise I guess I (GASP) look a little more like Mike. Not really though (thankfully) I probably have more hair then he did by Smile at least. ;D

I have gotten about half way there, but it seems to stop growing at some point. I even wore a white robe to a Halloween party and came as Mike Love. What could be more scary then him?

Post by: Mr. Wilson on September 25, 2009, 05:15:48 PM I have lived in southern california all my life + when the BB first came out in 62 i was 10 yrs old..one generation behind them..1st heard them on santa monica beach..Its been a life long love affair + because of them I learned to play music + sing..I bought all the singles + got albums for birthdays + Xmas. Cant imagine my life without there music because it calms my nerves + inspires me..NOW..When i found out that BW wore bowling shoes out in public i had to copy him..As far as clothing ive spent all my life wearing SHORTS..!!..Hawaian shirts + polo shirts..{ Hi Bruce !}..And went thru a big craze wearing Cowboy shirts when Carl + Dennis wore them....I dress like im at a BB concert almost everyday..Guess its a California thing..!!!!..Ive had the pleasure of meeting them all a few times + they have allways been nice..You should have seen BW face when i showed up at CW benifet in 01 wearing a SMILE tshirt.. { thx Mr G }....When i pass on i should probably have ALL my collection buried with me so i can listen on the next level..LOL.!

I'm a female, so I wasn't trying to copy the way Brian looked or dressed, but whenever I start getting really into someone, I have this habit of picking out all the things I have in common with them. And usually (probably just because I want to), I find a lot of similarities. Which sorta freaks me out a bit when I think about it now, considering what a troubling time Brian had mentally way back when...
It seems a little dumb, and when I think back to some of the people I did this with, I'm like, "What was I thinking, we're NOTHING alike..." I still do see many similarities between us, though, like in the way we think and act about certain things. For example, when I was younger (probably 13-15, old enough to know better), I was convinced that someone had set up cameras in the ceiling in my room, so I refused to get dressed/undressed, talk to anyone, or really spend a lot of time in there. When I read about Brian thinking his house was bugged, it reminded me of that time. I think the "cameras" turned out to be something from the wood in the attic that was poking down because we had foundation problems. Just weird, quirky things like that....I'll stop now while you all think I'm just a little odd, lol. always paranoid that SOMEONE is watching or listening or hearing your thoughts is a definite sign of some mental illness if i thought there were cameras watching me i'd be deliberately bizarre and put on a good show it is interesting though to consider how these people may influence us. what if brian was together mentally through the years, didn't use drugs, didn't overeat, took great care of his family and looked out for his friends, etc...? would we also incline towards such behavior due to his power of influence? it's like the whole issue of people becoming enamored by the myth of kurt cobain and other such people. what if the commonly accepted belief that kurt was depressed and killed himself turned out to be untrue? that's the major inspiration for many of the conspiracy theorists - to dispell that rumor in order to help others who identify with Kurt and feel that they must also meet a similar end since, if he couldn't make it, how could they? this is an important issue - most celebrities tend to lead less than noble lives, and their power of influence is incredibly strong, on a religious level due to the mass availability of their product, images, etc. for example, if all the tv and radio and cd and internet stuff was around in, say, the Prophet Muhammad's day, the entire earth might've been converted due to the power of his influence which affected the whole of Arabia in just 20 years time.
