It's probably the best Brian moment of the whole TLOS experience.  And Brian's not using a teleprompter (which is probably why he screws upo the lyrics to Calif Girls... only been singing 'em for 43 years now lad, he'll get it right someday soon!).

Greeeeat stuff! Pure magic.

See what I mean about how good Brian still is, rather, how great Brian still is, when he's relaxed?

This really makes me wish they would have included a complete cover of "That Lucky Old Sun" on the CD as a bonus track. The transition from the intro with the stacked vocals to the second up-tempo part of the song is just magical. It sounds as good as anything Brian did during SMiLE, if you ask me. It definitely kicks "Old Master Painter" in the butt, splattering his palette on the ground.

Very cool, nice to see Brian so relaxed and having fun.  I only wish it was longer than 3 minutes!

Brian is singing very well these days.

The song 'TLOS' is in a register that he sounds very comfortable in, and this performance, sitting in the back of a taxi, kicks the arse off his studio vocals on GIOMH.

No joke. He seems much more relaxed.

If he could do something like that on TV, being that relaxed, it'd rule .

This really is cool.   Besides Brian seeming so relaxed, I also enjoy watching his own band mates.  They act like we would.  There's a reverence there, that makes it all even cooler.  Does that make sense??

Yep, they look like they wish the cab ride would go on for a lot longer.

I think the band singing backing vocals on the first verse might've confused him.

I agree, it is. Wish they would put it out as a single just like that. Now why didn't Brian's manager come up with that idea? :)

Loved that video, reminded me a lot of the "Lost Hotel Tape".

I don't know...I actually found the clip disturbing.  Brian doesn't look relaxed at all...he just wants to get to the hotel.  My impression anyways...no offense given.

Um,  Wagmer doesn't post here. That hypothesis and the discussion about this video on the Record Roon ain't gonna fly here.

It's great that Brian doesn't have to do his rictus grins in this one. I really don't think he's ever been a sort of carefree happygolucky person anyway. I don't know the bloke, but it strikes me he's always been a bit introverted -and that's how he is.

Ok, I've watched this video a few more times and I'll change my mind to agree that Brian does not look or act relaxed.   I didn't realize at first that this video was "produced" for this Black Cab Sessions thingy.  With that in mind, the camera man (never mind him being squashed in there) should get the thing off 'auto iris' and expose for the dark interior of the car.

My typo. :)

I thought that video was great.  Very off the cuff, yet still cool at the same time. And you can clearly see how much his bandmembers genuinely care for the guy. Maybe even the only people in the camp who do so.

You could similarly film Angelina Jolie in a cab and similarly come to the same conclusions that some on other boards have reached.

Yes, at first when I heard Brian ask, "Are we going to the hotel," I thought, "Oh, he wants out of there."
But he's on tour (a short one there, I think) and is wondering what the next thing is in a hectic schedule. Any artist would. Plus, he probably feels a little weird with a camera up his nostrils, but you know, he seems to be enjoying the harmonizing and picked up on the "One more time" very nicely.

Sometimes I think Brian has to have his a pipe and slippers to seem relaxed to you people  ;D

Title: Re: Black Cab Sessions

I agree - considering he's still got a camera stuck in his face - not his favourite environment. I think is says more about the person watching than it does about Brian if they find that dark, evil and sinister. Any suggestions about whose "side" Jeff, Darian et al is on is ludicrous - anyone who has spent more than a few minutes with any of them knows how genuine they are.

I'll bet the "are we going to the hotel" translates to "Where's the food?"

....considering he's still got a camera stuck in his face - not his favourite environment.

I guess it's one of those things that's necessary to do if you want to have a successful solo career. ::)

Not necessarily. I mean, the camera was RIGHTINHIFACECLOSELIKETHIS. He seemed more relaxed then I would be.

What I thought was funny was right when they started singing, the cab hit a bump in the rode and you could tell in their voices.

If you look close enough, you could see Brian's nose hair and boogers.  ;D
