Yeah that is a very late photo of Carl... but it sucks to see him like that, he obviously looks pretty bad :'(

BiG GRiN, you really have to see the A Beach Boy's Tale documentary and the same goes for anyone else for that matter. There is HEAPS of rare home footage... really cool stuff. It is in several parts on YouTube somewhere, but I can't seem to find it?

Yep, agreed. That photo that Big Grin posted would probably be the latest I would want to see Carl. Even then I get sad seeing him as he looks terrible. It's amazing how good he still sounded though. I mean there is that recording of God Only Knows from 1997 where he sounds really good considering how sick he was.

Great pics! Do you happen to have that SMiLE era pic that appears at the end of the timeline in the BWPS tour booklet? Brian has this odd expression on his face and is wearing a very loud shirt. Been looking for a nice sized picture of it but have come up empty.

Great stuff. The 1977 Love release party photos are great even if Brian looks a bit frightened in them. Go back ten years and he sure looked in good spirits on those beach photos especially the ones with Audree. To be fair he looks totally with it in the one with the Help Me Rhonda shirt on from 76 or 77.

Great reel of photos. Love (mid-1976-most of 77) and hate (78-82) this era of Brian and was lovely to see some of these eras of Brian.

When was this one taken? I'm thinking 78 during the MIU sessions, but I'm not sure.

Love the Help Me Rhonda one, he looks great and in my mind he was in a good state of mind for a short time period here (beginning of the Love You sessions until the end of the Adult/Child sessions), but of course had a firghtened moment or two, like the Love You release party. In that one it's fascinating because he is stiff, but everyone (most especially Dennis) looks so happy for Brian.

Would love to see another set of photos from 1983-today, if that's possible?

The Brian picture was taken in Iowa 1973 early in the year. David Sandler can be seen in the uncropped version. By fall of 1974 he looked much heavier and had stopped shaving etc.

This seems to be the place to mention-that some pics that can be seen on Redfern and at Getty images of the BBs (also double page spread in Badman pages 226-27 mislabeled as Mexico) with Mike in Handle bar moustache, Dennis with Beard and unidentified man-posing with a van and on a pier-were taken on June 16 1968 (the day after a Lagoon concert) in Salt Lake City-at a spot at Salt Lake where there was an abandoned pier and amusement park by Cyril Maitland (who may be the man in the photo) for Fabulous 208 magazine-They are in the Aug 31 1968 issue.

Does anyone know where and when excatly this one was taken? Brian looks great if it was '77. Had to have been...

The 77 photo is probably from Don Kirshner's Rock Awards (looks like a rehearsal photo).  Brian and Dennis gave out an award in 1976 (footage on Youtube) and I know that the BBs were advertised as appearing at the second awards held in the fall of 77-though I have never seen any footage of the 2nd app. Brian seems to have adopted that short hair around June or July 1977. The streaking photo is from the March 18 1974 vancouver show I believe (it was written up in Rolling stone that both Dennis and Mike Streaked at that show and then exchanged each others outfits.

Well Denny Remembered has a lot of photos taken that day. Only Brian, Carl and Dennis are present. Mike was in Switzerland when these were taken. One thing to note is that Carl does not have a beard.  A little of this footage can be seen during Forever on AAB. I traded for it back in about 1990 and was told it was the Grammy's. That might be wrong though.

Could be...but I don't think its the Grammys-reason  is because the grammys are held in the spring and these shots are from the fall-Brian is post short haircut that he had that summer. It is starting to grow back but is still short

Well if you can pinpoint when Carl shaved his beard off we will have the date, but I do have the footage if you want it.

Carl sans beard was somewhere in early 1977. He still had a beard at the Atlanta Omni concert in January, and had grown it back out by the release of Love You in April.

Well that appearance was the Grammy Awards-on Feb 19 1977. My question was whether the photo of Dennis and Brian is from that rehearsal. If you have other shots that also show a beardless Carl-than yes they are from that day

You know it may be two different sets put together in the layout in Denny Remembered. I think I did see Mike in one of the rehearsal photos (not included there) now that I think about it.

Found the one with Mike and Al in it in the Dean Anthony book. Carl isn't there so I don't know if it is the same day. Probably not, Dennis has the beard so let's say it's summer or fall. The only time we know it can't be from is mid September when he was clean shaven.

Just checked David Leaf's book, and I'm pretty sure this is where Dan grabbed the image - it's on page 165 in both editions.
I'll tell you the streaking story another time, when I have more time... 
I've just recently started posting here; someone asked a question about my book, and I finally registered here  but hadn't been able to log in.  Also, I've just changed my posting name from just 'eddie' to 'Ed Roach', which was the main problem. I always like to post with the full name.  (Hey, I'm proud of that Roach name!)
For the time being, I did come across one more scan from that show, and if you look real close, you'll see that Dennis is wearing Mike's 'outfit'.  I have more individual shots where you can really feel the absurdity of the situation--streaking included! That makes two of us. I saw one on Ebay a while back but it was going for quite a bit of money (which I didn't have).

Yargh! I never thought of looking for it on ebay...I just figured they were made for BB's themselves.

Nope, those shirts were sold at concerts in the mid-70s. I have one in powder blue.

Put me in that category too... ever since becoming a fan I have wanted one of those shirts... I don't have a Beach Boys shirt as I think most of them like pretty average, but those ones are the coolest ones I've seen.

Take a look, and you'll notice that the first logo was a different image.  They originally used "The End of the Trail", and Jack Rieley had it painted on a huge billboard type thing at the top of Topanga Canyon.  When Dennis I drove past it, I pointed it out to him, and they changed it to this more optimistic view of an Indian... 
We almost got Ricky Fataar to pose for a new version of it, too!

This has always been one of my favorite Brian pictures. It's not important, but I often wondered what he was singing. I'm not sure, but could it be from 1971 maybe?

yeah, the second picture I think was during the 'Holland' sessions. Looks like it was  cut from a newspaper.

It's from the back album cover of Holland.

Lady, that band picture isn't from 1972. It's mislabeled on the page the link goes to. Carl wasn't clean shaven past Fall of 1971, save for about a week in 1977.

Carl grew his beard in the summer of 1970. I think that picture was taken in the sprng of 1970. Lady the first Brian one is from 1971 and the second taken from the back of Holland so yes that is 1972.
Here are some pictures of Brian between 1970-75. If someone wants to post them on here that's fine. I can help date them better then. I also put a shot of Carl growing back his beard in 1977. In 1970 Brian seemed more fit then he had since Pet Sounds. He looked happy too. By 1975 he had gained around 100 pounds.

It's black n white, 60's vintage i think, they're outside a house (maybe bellagio) with the camera facing Brian. Sorry to burst your bubble-but that shot of Brian and Mike on a bench is not from the Wild Honey sessions-it is from 1966. One of the photos from that session was published in the October 1966 Hit Parader.  Considering magazines came out earlier than cover date-it is from the Pet Sounds sessions or the Good Vibrations sessions.
