Title: Sunshine songs Post by: donald on March 13, 2008, 06:13:48 AM We are making a compilation of songs with sun or sunshine, in the title or featureded prominently in the lyrics.
For example, Warmth of the Sun or My Girl would fit into this mix. We will also include such nuggetts as Walkin on Sunshine, Hre Comes the Sun, I Can See Clearly Now, and Do it Again. I call upon the vast knowledge base of Smiley Smilers for assistance with this. :) :) We're looking forward to seeing your suggestions. Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: roll plymouth rock on April 04, 2008, 09:53:53 AM Sloan's Sunflower Sunflower is great, recently saw it on ebay with a promotional picture sleeve; went for an outrageous amount of money Good news for PF Sloan fans as Ace Records in the UK is reissuing his first two albums and non-album single cuts (including Sunflower, Sunflower) Scheduled for a May release it will be entitled `PF Sloan: Here's Where I Belong – The Best of the Dunhill Years 1965-67'. The running order will be as follows: Sins Of A Family Take Me For What I'm Worth What Exactly's The Matter With Me I'd Have To Be Out Of My Mind Eve Of Destruction This Mornin' I Get Out Of Breath This Is What I Was Made For Ain't No Way I'm Gonna Change My Mind All The Things I Do For You, Baby Goes To Show (Just How Wrong You Can Be) What Am I Doing Here With You From A Distance The Man Behind The Red Balloon Let Me Be Here's Where You Belong This Precious Time Halloween Mary I Found A Girl On Top Of A Fence Lollipop Train (You Never Had It So Good) Upon A Painted Ocean City Women A Melody For You Sunflower, Sunflower Karma (Study In Divinations) / I Can't Help But Wonder, Elizabeth So that's all of the first LP, most of the second (the missing tracks are When The Wind Changes, Patterns Seg.4) and all five of the non-LP 45 tracks. I don't suppose there will many mourners for Patterns – perhaps a few more for When the Wind, but although it's a shame to lose any of Phil's work something had to go in order to fit into the CD format. Rest assured that those that went did so with Phil's full agreement. :3d Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: Ron on May 03, 2012, 03:09:38 PM Here's one that popped in my head when I read the title, I don't think anybody else mentioned it. "It's All Too Much" I count because it has "silver sun" - weird the line in brackets has no mention of "sun". Speaking of Donovan: "Sun" "The Sun Is A Very Magic Fellow" (this sounds like a kid's song/nursery rhyme) Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: Chocolate Shake Man on April 20, 2015, 06:20:05 AM "It's All Too Much" I count because it has "silver sun" - weird the line in brackets has no mention of "sun". My favorite got to be Katrina & the Waves' "Walking on Sunshine": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIoWtw6jc-I

Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: tony p on January 27, 2016, 06:59:10 PM Been listening to 'Eternity's Children'. What a great slice of sunshine pop from the late 60's. Wonderful album.
Track 1 (Again) is a helluva track. If the BB's came out with this song on the Friends album, people would be praising it still. Finally got around to getting 'Begin' by The Millenium. Let's see how I go. Could track 1 (Prelude) be the first hip-hop track ever recorded? Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on February 03, 2016, 09:08:10 PM Finally got around to getting 'Begin' by The Millenium. Let's see how I go. It's dull to these ears. "It's You", bonus track "Blight" is worth checking. "To Claudia on Thursday" is amusing. Maybe "Anthem". I absolutely woudn't advise it to people to show what "sunshine" music is.Could track 1 (Prelude) be the first hip-hop track ever recorded? It could be. If it is, not a big honor. Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: Dudd on February 04, 2016, 12:17:31 PM I tried it a few months ago myself and think it's fantastic. Maybe not perfect, just because the good stuff is so good it makes the weaker songs all the worse, but I reckon "I Just Want to Be Your Friend", "5 A.M.", "It's You", and especially "There is Nothing More to Say" (which might now be one of my favourite songs) all deserve a spot on any sunshine pop collection. I've been off on a bit of a sunshine pop phase and it's led me to finding a lot of great music that I'm late to the party to (including Eternity's Children, and also A Midsummer Day's Dream by Mark Eric, which is wonderful).
The Sandy Salisbury solo album is pretty awesome too... it has a very fun cover of "With Me Tonight". Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on June 20, 2016, 06:20:09 AM Did you read the whole thread before posting, john? Enya, Chemical Brothers, Misunderstood were mentioned.
You know, it's very bizarre you never posted here while you do in Rap even though it's not your thing. Care to explain? Like, everybody listens to music & there may be some songs with "sun" in title. Then why not post them here, for chrissakes? It's very easy. Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: JK on June 20, 2016, 06:43:18 AM Did you read the whole thread before posting, john? Enya, Chemical Brothers, Misunderstood were mentioned. Well they're here again, aren't they? Anyway, that was a different song by The Misunderstood. Here are their two "sun" songs back to back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWjr8UiSZns https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrRImjZlD38 Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on June 20, 2016, 06:50:34 AM my oh my. edit till next song for sunshine playlist. :3d
Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: JK on October 07, 2016, 03:00:44 AM Had this one on my mind today. I'm not a major fan of "good time music" but this is special.
It's "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice" by The Lovin' Spoonful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAJyLt9WMNg Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on October 07, 2016, 06:46:51 AM The OP says very clearly to post songs with "sun" in the title & the lyrics. That song you posted doesn't suit. The question is - why it's posted here in the 1st place? I'm sure by now you read the rules, didn't you? I shan't count it.

In fact, don't you dare count it! :lol Actually, mine isn't the only post here devoted to "sunshine pop". Whatever the topic description, the topic title is ambiguous. I'm sure donald won't mind. I've got my hard hat on just in case he does. And here's some more sunshine pop----so there! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaijUQeLcfQ Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: undercover-m on September 03, 2017, 02:08:03 AM Tame Impala - Sun's Coming Up I'm happy to see someone else has dug up Tame Impala's unreleased stuff. Kevin was supposed to release a B-sides a while ago, but I think that fizzled.Tame Impala - The Sun Anywho, these are more in the “Summer Kickback” category, but they work: Easy - Real Estate Passing Out Pieces - Mac Demarco You Ain’t Always There - Hungry Kids of Hungary Archie, Marry Me - Alvvays These are the sunshiney oldies that are good for blasting in the car. Care of Cell 44 - The Zombies I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) - The Four Tops The Rain,The Park and Other Things - The Cowsills Let’s Stay Together - Al Green Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on September 03, 2017, 03:11:41 AM This thread's about songs with "sun" in the title. Plain & simple.
Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: JK on September 03, 2017, 04:09:47 AM This thread's about songs with "sun" in the title. Plain & simple. If we're splitting hairs, RR, according to OP donald "We are making a compilation of songs with sun or sunshine, in the title or featured prominently in the lyrics." Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on September 03, 2017, 04:14:39 AM Quote or featured prominently in the lyrics. If undercover-m's list fits that - she didn't reference lyrics - then you got the point. Otherwise, it doesn't count.Title: Re: Sunshine Pop Post by: JK on September 03, 2017, 05:52:09 AM Quote or featured prominently in the lyrics. If undercover-m's list fits that - she didn't reference lyrics - then you got the point. Otherwise, it doesn't count.RR, the OP left long ago. Just let everyone post what they consider to be Sunshine Pop----which is what has been happening anyway. Consistently changing the topic title helps. ;D Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on September 03, 2017, 05:59:16 AM JK, I appreciate the fast (kind of) reply but let undercover-m speak herself. Since I replied to her. I just want this thread to go by rules, I like it very much. Is it too much to ask? Anyway, when I compile every song posted here, I shan't count repeats & random "summer" lists.

Fast (kind of) replies my speciality. ;D Seriously, I look forward to your compilation. Good call. :=) Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: undercover-m on September 03, 2017, 10:50:35 AM Well, to be fair, I just skimmed the first few posts of this, which probably meant I skimmed over the rules, too. I'm sure there's another thread for "feel-good" songs I could post in.
But yeah, my songs don't really fit the description, but hey, we got that out of the way. Here's a few songs to make up for my blunder: Same Sun - Real Estate Sun Went Black - Springtime Carnivore I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun - Beach House Don't Steal Our Sun - The Thrills Sun - Two Door Cinema Club Sun It Rises - Fleet Foxes Love Like a Sunset Part I - Phoenix See the Sun - The Kooks (the alternate version is way better) Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: JK on September 04, 2017, 02:12:14 AM I'm sure there's another thread for "feel-good" songs I could post in. I don't think there is, but it's a minor problem really. I'd like to add two sun titles in French: Yes----"Ritual (Nous Sommes du Soleil)" Air----"Le soleil est près de moi" And, of course, Levon Helm sings the word "soleil" towards the close of The Band's "Acadian Driftwood"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBTDdaCEY2k Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: RangeRoverA1 on September 04, 2017, 03:27:28 AM Well, to be fair, I just skimmed the first few posts of this, which probably meant I skimmed over the rules, too. I'm sure there's another thread for "feel-good" songs I could post in. Thanks, you understood me right. I'll add these to the list (it's saved in computer; it'll be dropped here soon if re-arranged alphabetically. It must be perfect :police:).But yeah, my songs don't really fit the description, but hey, we got that out of the way. It's sunshine pop but differs than typical sunshine pop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO33Ao3uElI
Edit: Larry's 45 & youtube link differ. 45 is 3:09. Youtube runs shorter, it starts with incomplete intro. Besides, echo is too distinct in the mix. Subdued in Larry's 45. & I usually like echoed vocs. Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: JK on October 10, 2020, 05:21:33 AM Here's some more sunshine pop with -- lo and behold! -- "sun" in the title. (Curiously it's on my friend's list of obscure albums but then no one's perfect.)
This is "Will You Be Staying After Sunday" by The Peppermint Rainbow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZYLxrqKG-s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Peppermint_Rainbow (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Peppermint_Rainbow) Title: Re: Sunshine songs Post by: JK on October 10, 2020, 05:25:17 AM Here's some more sunshine pop with -- lo and behold! -- "sun" in the title. One of his songs is called Going to the Sun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT8jGTbvgO8
