Title: Craig Breedlove (Spirit of America song inspiration) passes away Post by: CenturyDeprived on April 06, 2023, 08:00:33 AM Craig Breedlove just passed away. He was the inspiration for the Beach Boys song "Spirit of America".
With his passing, how many celebrities are left who were name checked in a BBs song lyric? https://www.autoweek.com/racing/more-racing/a43521840/craig-breedlove-first-to-drive-500-600-mph-dies-at-86/?fbclid=IwAR2ANNy9Z0q-GJPXxeYQckYkjFaWRDh6X7kUg6MrQQavTpRU8I9S82SN_-I&mibextid=q5o4bk Title: Re: Craig Breedlove (Spirit of America song inspiration) passes away Post by: juggler on April 07, 2023, 04:02:01 PM "With his passing, how many celebrities are left who were name checked in a BBs song lyric?"
Hmmm, that's tough. With Little Richard's death in 2020, everyone name-checked in "Do You Remember?" is dead. And Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon are gone. Let's see.... The Four Seasons are name-checked in Surfers Rule, and several of them (Frankie Vallie and Bob Gaudio) are alive. And then we get into people who are name-checked but "celebrity" might be a stretch... Diane Rovell is of course name-checked in My Diane. Lynda Jardine is name-checked in Lady Lynda, and she's alive. Nick Grillo, name-checked in Be Here in the Mornin, is alive I believe. The song name-checks Danny and the Juniors, and one of the Juniors, Frank Maffei apparently is still alive.
