Title: Surf's Up podcast on Sail on Sailor - 1972 with Howie Edelson
Post by: Mark Dillon on January 28, 2023, 01:25:03 PM
Howdy all. Just wanted to let you know that over at Surf's Up: A Beach Boys Podcast Safari Phil Miglioratti and I have dropped a new episode digging deep into the Sail on Sailor - 1972 box set with returning guest Howie Edelson.

We cover lots of ground, including the challenge the group faced in winning over concertgoers with their new music (and Mike cussing out some members of the crowd), Al rolling up his sleeves on remixes, stripping down Dennis' ballads, the contributions of Blondie and Ricky, the still murky history of "Sail on Sailor," and the choice of closing shows with "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

Have a listen and let us know what you think. We are available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Amazon Alexa, Audible and on SoundCloud at the link below: https://soundcloud.com/user-93394161/sail-on-sailor-1972-with-howie-edelson.

Good work, Mark. I think the discussion of Carnegie Hall was probably about twice as long as it needed to be, but other than that it was a most enjoyable conversation.

Given how Howie (rightfully) sings the praises of Alan Boyd, I would hope that you and Phil consider having him as a guest sometime soon. A conversation structured beforehand where Alan talks about 10-12 of his favorite rarities--and perhaps provides us with a more definitive account of the genesis of "Sail On Sailor"--would make for an utterly fascinating episode...one that would flow naturally from the ones you've had with Howie.
