I'm all in on that set! Fantastic! It was Revolver (actually the US version which was all that was available at the time I bought it), Pet Sounds, Smile, and The Monkees' Headquarters and PAC&J albums that got me obsessed with music. Revolver is simply amazing in many ways, it was great to finally get the full UK version back in the day, and now this. Great news!

Not unheard. It was on Anthology 2, released in 1996. People have short memories these days.

I guess some people have such short attention spans they can’t read the articles linked. Obviously, the original album isn’t unheard. The thread title comes from the article linked in my first post. As Apple releases NEW mixes and unreleased stuff I will post them.

New “I’m Only Sleeping” video

There is considerable controversy over the actual speed mix of take 5 of Rain on Facebook.

What’s the scoops?  Tried to find on FB but too much content. Giles go a bit overboard with his new mix?

I don't fully understand it, but the gist of it is that the original Rain master take was recorded with just guitar and drums at a very fast tempo. This track was slowed down, and then Paul overdubbed his bass on the now much slower recording. This was the master take, and what was officially released(once all vocals were added). The recording in it's original speed was released on the new box set. The thing is, Giles took the overdubbed bass and sped it up to match the speed of the original recording. A lot of people are saying the take should have been released without bass, as originally recording. But a bunch of people are saying that the sped up bass is in the wrong key, and that's the big issue.

Very, very well explained!  Very interesting debate. A little too much monkey business by Giles Martin. I wonder if Paul was consulted?

I've also read a few people questioning whether the original take as released is even playing at the right speed. Some are finding it hard that Ringo could drum at that fast a speed. Sure sounds abnormally fast to my ears and the bass does sound off.

That was not my point. Speaking of short memories, people seem to have forgotten about the Anthology project in the 90's. That's where I first heard most of this stuff - the alternate versions, remixes, etc. I'm just tired of Apple/Capitol/etc. presenting this stuff like it should be new to all of us. Did everyone toss out their Anthology cd's?  still play them.

Sounds like you don’t remember what is in Anthology 2. Only seven tracks from the Revolver sessions and a few of those aren’t in the new box.

They used the Peter Jackson sound isolation method developed in the making of the Get Back Doc to completely remix Revolver. These are new mixes not on Anthology. 

The Revolver outtakes on Anthology 2 included on the box have been newly remastered.

While Anthology 2 had only seven Revolver outtakes, the box set has two CDs of outtakes.

While I have all the Anthology albums it isn’t rocket science to note the mass of new stuff on the box set.

The tracks that do have both the Anthology and the new set in common aren't even 100% the same on each release . Take 1 of Tomorrow Never Knows on this new set is the entire unedited version, and is almost a minute longer than the version on Anthology 2.
